Electronic Structure of Unsaturated V2O5(001) and (100) Surfaces: Ab Initio Density Functional Theory Studies

P. Hejduk、M. Witko、Klaus Hermann2009-05-20Topics in Catalysis

Vanadium oxides based materials are well known to play an active role as catalysts in many chemical processes of technological importance like for example hydrocarbon oxidation reactions or selective catalytic reduction of NO x in the presence of ammonia. Usually the (010) surface is pointed out as the most important,…

Rigorous construction of ground state correlations in graphene: Renormalization of the velocities and Ward identities

Alessandro Giuliani、Vieri Mastropietro2009-05-20Physical Review B

We consider the two-dimensional Hubbard model on the honeycomb lattice, as a model for single-layer graphene with screened Coulomb interactions; at half filling and weak coupling, we construct its ground-state correlations by a convergent multiscale expansion, rigorously excluding the presence of magnetic or supercond…

We have found that the electromechanical resonance frequency of Terfenol-D/Pb(Zr x Ti 1− x )O 3 laminated composites can be tuned by an applied dc magnetic ( H dc ) bias. With increasing H dc from 0 to 5000 Oe, the resonance frequency ( f r ) can be shifted over the range of 40 ⩽ f r ⩽ 55 kHz. This finding offers a me…

MAGNETICALLY CONTROLLED TERAHERTZ ABSORPTION AND EMISSION IN CARBON NANOTUBES

M. E. Portnoi、M. Rosenau da Costa、O. V. Kibis 等 4 位作者2009-05-20International Journal of Modern Physics B

We show that an experimentally attainable magnetic field applied along the axis of a metallic carbon nanotube not only opens the gap in the nanotube energy spectrum but also allows optical transitions, which are forbidden in the absence of the field. Possible terahertz applications of this effect are discussed.

Zn Cluster Drifting Effect for the Formation of ZnO 3D Nanoarchitecture

Jian Shi、Scott Grutzik、Xudong Wang2009-05-20ACS Nano

Metal catalysts are widely used for nanowire (NW) growth and are one of the essential parameters that dictate the crystal growth phenomena, thus controlling the NW's morphology. Although extensive research has been conducted on catalyst effects, the catalyst drifting effect is generally underestimated for controlling…

Shallow impurity absorption spectroscopy in isotopically enriched silicon

Michael F. Steger、A. Yang、D. Karaiskaj 等 15 位作者2009-05-20Physical Review B

Inhomogeneous broadening due to isotopic randomness in natural Si has been shown to cause a broadening of many of the ground-state to excited-state infrared-absorption transitions of the shallow donor phosphorus and acceptor boron. Previously, it had been thought that the observed linewidths of shallow impurity transi…

Efficiency of Energy Transfer from Organic Dye Molecules to CdSe−ZnS Nanocrystals: Nanorods versus Nanodots

Mikhail Artemyev、Elena Stepanovna Ustinovich、Igor Nabiev2009-05-20Journal of the American Chemical Society

We report on comparative experimental study of FRET efficiency in two different systems: organic dye molecules (donors) and CdSe-ZnS core-shell nanodots or nanorods (acceptors). Fluorescein isothiocyanate was bound chemically to the surface of nanocrystals using cysteine as a linker and the conjugates were embedded in…

We report on an application of silk as an ultrathin redox-active template for controllable, one-step synthesis of gold nanoparticles via control over silk secondary structure. We found that both silk I and silk II molecular layers can facilitate gold nanoparticle formation at ambient conditions, indicating that tyrosi…
