Numerical study of laminar magneto-convection in a differentially heated square duct

Alessandro Tassone、Fabio Giannetti、Gianfranco Caruso2017-01-01Journal of Physics Conference Series

Magnetohydrodynamic pressure drops are one of the main issues for liquid metal blanket in fusion reactors. Minimize the fluid velocity at few millimeters per second is one strategy that can be employed to address the problem. For such low velocities, buoyant forces can effectively contribute to drive the flow and ther…

Multiphase Porous Electrode Theory

Raymond B. Smith、Martin Z. Bazant2017-01-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

Porous electrode theory, pioneered by John Newman and collaborators, provides a macroscopic description of battery cycling behavior, rooted in microscopic physical models. Typically, the active materials are described as solid solution particles with transport and surface reactions driven by concentration fields, and…

Tyler T. Clikeman、Thomas Schmaltz、Marcus Halik 等 6 位作者2017-01-01ECS Journal of Solid State Science and Technology

The possibility of fabricating self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) from alkylphosphonic acids functionalized with trifluoromethyl derivatives of C 60 on a metal oxide surface has been demonstrated in this work. Using several trifluoromethylfullerenes (TMFs) of different compositions and isomeric structures, we explored t…

1020 steel coated with Ti/TiN by Cathodic Arc and Ion Implantation

F Bermeo、Juan Pablo Quintana、A. Kleiman 等 5 位作者2017-01-01Journal of Physics Conference Series

TiN coatings have been widely studied in order to improve mechanical properties of steels. In this work, thin Ti/TiN films were prepared by plasma based immersion ion implantation and deposition (PBII&D) with a cathodic arc on AISI 1020 steel substrates. Substrates were exposed to the discharge during 1 min in vacuum…

Preparation, characterization, and protein-resistance of films derived from a series of α-oligo(ethylene glycol)-ω-alkenes on H–Si(111) surfaces

Guoting Qin、Chi Ming Yam、Amit Kumar 等 10 位作者2017-01-01RSC Advances

Films on Si(111) were prepared by photo-activated grafting of CH 2 CH(CH 2 ) m (OCH 2 CH 2 ) n OCH 3 ( m = 8, 9; n = 3–7) by using different vacuum conditions. High vacuum produced a higher thickness (40 Å) and <0.8% fibrinogen adsorption (C 10 EG 7 ). Films were stable even after 28 days.

A new proof of the existence of weak solutions to a model for phase evolution driven by material forces

Yangxin Tang、Wenhua Wang、Yusheng Zhou2017-01-01Mathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences

We prove the existence of weak solutions to a one-dimensional initial-boundary value problem for a model system of partial differential equations, which consists of a sub-system of linear elasticity and a nonlinear non-uniformly parabolic equation of second order. To simplify the existence proof of weak solutions in t…

Numerical Simulation of Thin Film Breakup on Nonwettable Surfaces

Nicola Suzzi、G Croce2017-01-01Journal of Physics Conference Series

When a continuous film flows on a nonwettable substrate surface, it may break up, with the consequent formation of a dry-patch. The actual shape of the resulting water layer is of great interest in several engineering applications, from in-flight icing simulation to finned dehumidifier behavior modeling. Here, a 2D nu…

I. Simsek、Dursun Özyürek2017-01-01Acta Physica Polonica A

In the present study, the effect of 2-phase (Ti3Al) on the wear behavior of the titanium alloys is investigated by adding different amounts of (0.3-0.5%) Fe to the Ti8Al2.5Sn and Ti5Al2.5Sn alloys, which are produced by the mechanical alloying. The pre-formed green compacts were sintered at 1200 C for one hour. The si…
