Studies on the β‐crystalline form of isotactic polypropylene

P. Jacoby、B. H. Bersted、William J. Kissel 等 4 位作者1986-03-01Journal of Polymer Science Part B Polymer Physics

Abstract A study has been made of the mechanical, thermal, and morpholigical characteristics of melt‐crystallized isotactic polypropylene containing high levels of the β or pseudohexagonal crystalline form. Different levels of β‐form crystallinity were produced in the polymer by blending in low levels of quinacridone…

Resonances of two-dimensional particle gratings in surface-enhanced Raman scattering

Keith T. Carron、H. W. Lehmann、W. Fluhr 等 5 位作者1986-03-01Journal of the Optical Society of America B

Dipolar interactions between silver particles arranged on a square two-dimensional grating give rise to characteristic features in the wavelength dependence of surface-enhanced Raman scattering from adsorbed molecules. The interactions produce two pronounced effects: first, they shift and broaden the plasmon resonance…

A jet-stirred reactor for kinetic studies of homogeneous gas-phase reactions at pressures up to ten atmospheres (≈1 MPa)

Philippe Dagaut、Michel Cathonnet、J. P. Rouan 等 8 位作者1986-03-01OpenAlex

An homogeneous stirred reactor designed for kinetic studies of hydrocarbon oxidation in the intermediate temperature range is described. The originality of this reactor lies in its ability to operate under pressure up to 10 atm ( approximately 1 MPa). The design of the injectors makes it possible to move a thermocoupl…

Continuum Theory of the Mechanics of Fibre-Reinforced Composites

A. J. M. Spencer、Zvi Hashin1986-03-01OpenAlex

The chapter on thermophysical properties, curtailed from that in the first edition, should be different by giving uniformly the latest internationally-agreed property data and by giving information for modern materials: e.g., Table 65, reproduced from the 1950's, includes in its "selected nonmetals" none of the polyme…

Degradation During Aging of Transformation‐Toughened ZrO 2 ‐Y 2 O 3 Materials at 250°C

F. F. Lange、G. L. Dunlop、B. I. Davis1986-03-01OpenAlex

The detrimental aging phenomenon observed in ZrO 2 ‐Y 2 O 3 materials, which causes tetragonal ZrO 2 to transform to its monoclinic structure at temperatures between 150 and 400°C, was investigated with respect to the gaseous aging environment and the Y 2 O 3 and SiO 2 content of the material. It is shown that the agi…

Porphycene—a Novel Porphin Isomer

Emanuel Vogel、Matthias Köcher、Hans Schmickler 等 4 位作者1986-03-01OpenAlex

Examination of the porhyrins from the viewpoint of the “annulene chemist” has led to the discovery of the novel, simple porphin isomer porphycene 2. The path from conception to the synthesis of the molecule was surprisingly short. 2 is formed as a stable compound upon McMurry reaction of 1.

Luminescence and stimulated emission of neodymium in sodium lanthanum molybdate powders

В. М. Маркушев、V. F. Zolin、Ch. M. Briskina1986-02-28Soviet Journal of Quantum Electronics

The results are given of an investigation of the luminescence and stimulated emission spectra of powder phosphors of the Na 5 La 1- x Nd x (MoO 4 ) 4 composition prepared by the method of solidstate synthesis. Stimulated emission of neodymium was observed under the influence of strong pumping with laser pulses of 30-n…

Reactivity of Dy2O3 and Tb4O7 with Nd15Fe77B8 powder and the coercivity of the sintered magnets

M. H. Ghandehari1986-02-24Applied Physics Letters

The reaction of Dy2O3 or Tb4O7 with Nd15Fe77B8 powder during the sintering increases the coercivity of the sintered magnets. These oxides are reduced to metal during the sintering process, resulting in magnets with properties similar to those prepared from the Nd13.5Dy1.5Fe77B8 alloy.

Icosahedral crystals: Where are the atoms?

Per Bak1986-02-24Physical Review Letters

The positions of atoms in icosahedral crystals are shown to correspond to arrangements of three-dimensional hypersurfaces in six-dimensional periodic lattices. The six-dimensional space-group symmetry allows for crystals which cannot be formed by space-filling decorated tilings (quasicrystals). Structures with continu…

Plasma surface modification of polymer powders with application to thermal energy storage

In‐Houng Loh、Robert E. Cohen、R. F. Baddour1986-02-20Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract The rotating bed plasma reactor described here permits uniform surface modification of relatively large amounts of powder materials. Scale‐up to even larger batches of solids appears to be feasible. Some preliminary experimental data on the plasma surface modification of polymer powders have been presented. T…

Bulk and surface plasmon modes in a superlattice of alternating layered electron gases

N. C. Constantinou、M. G. Cottam1986-02-20Journal of Physics C Solid State Physics

Calculations are presented for the collective plasmon modes of a superlattice consisting of two-dimensional electron gas layers separated by media of alternating thickness and/or dielectric constant. The theory is developed for bulk plasmon modes in an infinite superlattice, and for bulk and surface modes in a semi-in…

Anu Verma、B. L. Deopura、Amartya Sengupta1986-02-20Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract Blending of nylon‐6 and nylon‐66 was carried out by coextrusion in the whole range of compositions with particular emphasis on small amounts of one polymer in the other. Most significant improvement in properties is achieved at low blend compositions in which the minor component remains amorphous while severe…

Metabolism of glucose via a modified Entner‐Doudoroff pathway in the thermoacidophilic archaebacterium Thermoplasma acidophilum

Nigel Budgen、Michael J. Danson1986-02-17FEBS Letters

It has been found that the thermoacidophilic archaebacterium, Thermoplasma acidophilum , can metabolise glucose via a modified Entner‐Doudoroff pathway involving non‐phosphorylated intermediates. Pyruvate and glyceraldehyde are the first products, the glyceraldehyde then being further metabolised to a second molecule…

The process of isothermal compositional ordering in the Pb2ScNbO6 ferroelectric and Pb2InNbO6 antiferroelectric is studied.
