The lysine-oxoglutarate reductase (LOR) domain of the bifunctional enzyme lysine-oxoglutarate reductase-saccharopine dehydrogenase (LOR/SDH) from maize endosperm was shown to be activated by Ca2+, high salt concentration, organic solvents and Mg2+. The Ca2+-dependent enhancement of LOR activity was inhibited by the ca…

Chongmin Wang、Hideyuki Emoto、Mamoru Mitomo1998-05-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Annealing induces significant microstructural changes in β‐Si 3 N 4 ceramics densified with a silica containing additive, as signified by the precipitation of elongated Si 2 N 2 O grains in the fine‐grained β‐Si 3 N 4 matrix, leading to a reinforced structure. The phases and microstructure evolution and the interface…

Canted Ferromagnetism and Other Magnetic Phenomena in Square-Planar, Neutral Manganese(II) and Iron(II) Octaethyltetraazaporphyrins

Scott P. Sellers、Brenda J. Korte、Jeffrey P. Fitzgerald 等 5 位作者1998-05-01Journal of the American Chemical Society

Iron(II) octaethyltetraazaporphyrin has been discovered to exist as two polymorphs at room temperature, α- and β-Fe(OETAP). This has been established by X-ray powder diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. Both ac and dc SQUID magnetometry show that the α phase is a soft molecular ferromagnet with T Curie = 2.8…

Sol‐gel polycondensation kinetic modeling: Methylethoxysilanes

Stephen E. Rankin、Christopher W. Macosko、Alon V. McCormick1998-05-01AIChE Journal

Abstract Quantitative kinetic modeling of the condensation of methylethoxysilanes {(CH 3 ) 4‐ f Si(OC 2 H 5 ) f } of varying functionality ( f ) is needed to engineer inorganic polymers, resins, and ceramics. To that end, a kinetic model that accounts for hydrolysis pseudoequilibrium, nearest‐neighbor substitution eff…

Controlling the dynamics of soft spheres: From polymeric to colloidal behavior

Rachid Seghrouchni、George Petekidis、Dimitris Vlassopoulos 等 7 位作者1998-05-01Europhysics Letters (EPL)

We probe the dynamic structure factor of multiarm star polymer solutions in good solvent above the overlap concentration with photon correlation spectroscopy and NMR. With the aid of a mean-field theoretical approach, which accounts for the interplay between the topologically enhanced osmotic pressure and the arm entr…

Aligned Carbon Nanotube Film Self-Organized on a SiC Wafer

Michiko Kusunoki、Junko Shibata、Masumi Rokkaku 等 4 位作者1998-05-01Japanese Journal of Applied Physics

An aligned carbon nanotube film was fabricated on the surface of an α-SiC wafer by heating at 1700°C for 30 min. in a vacuum electric furnace due to the decomposition of SiC by selected desorption. It was found to be easy to produce a large-area carbon nanotube film on the SiC substrate. The (0002) lattice distance of…

Orientation mode selection mechanisms for sheared nematic liquid crystalline materials

Tomohiro TSUJI、Alejandro D. Rey1998-05-01Physical review. E, Statistical physics, plasmas, fluids, and related interdisciplinary topics

An extensive analysis of the flow orientation modes of sheared liquid crystalline materials is performed using a complete nonlinear nonequilibrium theory that takes into account short and long range order elasticity and viscous flow effects. It is found that there are two main orientation modes in shear flow: (i) in-p…

Molecular-dynamics study of long-lived structures in a fragile glass-forming liquid

Gregory Johnson、Andrew I. Mel’čuk、Harvey Gould 等 5 位作者1998-05-01Physical review. E, Statistical physics, plasmas, fluids, and related interdisciplinary topics

We present molecular-dynamics results for a two-component, two-dimensional Lennard-Jones supercooled liquid near the glass transition. We find that the supercooled liquid is spatially heterogeneous and that there are long-lived clusters whose size distribution satisfies a scaling relation up to a cutoff. The similarit…

Nataliya G. Vasilenko、Evgenij A. Rebrov、Aziz M. Muzafarov 等 6 位作者1998-05-01Macromolecular Chemistry and Physics

Polyfunctional dendrimers are empolyed for the synthesis of multi-arm star-shaped polymers. Terminal allyl groups of a carbosilane dendrimer have been partly extended by hydrosilylation-addition of didecylmethylsilane and partly lithiated by reaction with butyllithium. Due to the peculiar structure of the dendritic po…

Irreversible Change of Pore Structure of MCM-41 upon Hydration at Room Temperature

Xin Zhao、Frank Audsley、Gao Qing Lu1998-05-01The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

The pore structure stability of MCM-41 materials upon hydration/dehydration was studied by XRD, 29 Si MAS NMR, and gravimetric adsorption techniques. Results demonstrated that collapses of the pore structure of MCM-41 occurred upon rehydration at room temperature due to the hydrolysis of the bare Si−O−Si(Al) bonds in…

Computer Modelling of Radiation Damage in Cation Sublattice of Corundum

E. A. Kotomin、Anatoli I. Popov、Arvids Stashans1998-05-01physica status solidi (b)

Results of quantum chemical computer simulations of close Frenkel defects in corundum crystals are presented and discussed. The conclusion is drawn that the energy barrier for a back recombination up to fourth nearest neighbours is less than 0.3 eV, i.e. such pairs should be unstable at temperatures above 40 K.
