N‐Confused and N‐Fused meso‐Aryl Sapphyrins

Iti Gupta、A. Srinivasan、Tatsuki Morimoto 等 5 位作者2008-05-05Angewandte Chemie International Edition

A state of (con)fusion: The introduction of a confused pyrrole ring into a meso-aryl sapphyrin framework destabilizes the macrocycle and forces a fusion reaction to occur. Subsequent metalation with rhenium results in further mutation to form a domino-fused sapphyrin with a fused penta-ring system (see scheme).

Printable, Flexible, and Stretchable Forms of Ultrananocrystalline Diamond with Applications in Thermal Management

Taeho Kim、Won Mook Choi、Dae‐Hyeong Kim 等 8 位作者2008-05-05Advanced Materials

Stretchable ultrananocrystalline diamond (UNCD) ribbons are created by transfer printing these elements onto a prestrained elastomeric substrate of poly(dimethylsiloxane) followed by release of this prestrain. Transfer printing techniques applied to thin films of UNCD such as these expand the range of potential applic…

Magnetism and clustering in Cu doped ZnO

Dan Huang、Yu‐Jun Zhao、Dihu Chen 等 4 位作者2008-05-05Applied Physics Letters

The influence of defect charge state on the magnetism of Cu doped ZnO as well as the Cu defects clustering have been investigated by the first-principles calculations. We demonstrate that p-type ZnO:Cu could have ferromagnetic (FM) property, but n-type ZnO:Cu would not have local magnetic moment. Furthermore, the neut…

Microwave dielectric properties of graded barium strontium titanate films

M. W. Cole、C. V. Weiss、E. Ngo 等 6 位作者2008-05-05Applied Physics Letters

Compositionally graded barium strontium titanate (BaxSr1−xTiO3 or BST) multilayers (5mol% MgO doped and undoped) were prepared via metallo-organic solution deposition on Pt–Si substrates and characterized electrically at 0.5, 5, and 10GHz. For the undoped BST multilayers, the small-signal dielectric response, tunabili…

Density Matrix Equation for a Bathed Small System and its Application to Molecular Magnets

D. A. Garanin2008-05-05arXiv

The technique of density matrix equation (DME) for a small system interacting with a bath is explained in detail. Special attention is given to the nonsecular DME that is needed in the vicinity of overdamped tunnelling resonances in molecular magnets (MM). The relaxation terms of the DME for MM are represented in the…

Giant strain in lead-free (Bi0.5Na0.5)TiO3-based single crystals

Shunsuke Teranishi、Muneyasu Suzuki、Yuji Noguchi 等 8 位作者2008-05-05Applied Physics Letters

A giant electric-field-induced strain of 0.87% is reported for tetragonal (Bi0.5Na0.5)TiO3-(Bi0.5K0.5)TiO3-BaTiO3 single crystals along the [100]cubic direction, which is six times as large as that of Pb(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O3 ceramics. In situ x-ray diffraction measurements and transmission electron microscope observations…

Optical switching in VO2 films by below-gap excitation

Matteo Rini、Zhao Hao、R. W. Schoenlein 等 11 位作者2008-05-05Applied Physics Letters

We study the photoinduced insulator-metal transition in VO2, correlating its threshold and dynamics with excitation wavelength. In single crystals, switching can only be induced with photon energies above the 670meV gap. This contrasts with the case of polycrystalline films, where formation of the metallic state can b…

Low-Density Ferromagnetism in Biased Bilayer Graphene

Eduardo V. Castro、N. M. R. Peres、Tobias Stauber 等 4 位作者2008-05-05Physical Review Letters

We compute the phase diagram of a biased graphene bilayer. The existence of a ferromagnetic phase is discussed with respect to both carrier density and temperature. We find that the ferromagnetic transition is first-order, lowering the value of U relatively to the usual Stoner criterion. We show that in the ferromagne…

Orbital degeneracy, Hund's coupling, and band ferromagnetism: effective quantum parameter, suppression of quantum corrections, and enhanced stability

Bhaskar Kamble、Avinash Singh2008-05-05arXiv

An effective quantum parameter is obtained for the band ferromagnet in terms of orbital degeneracy and Hund's coupling. This quantum parameter determines, in analogy with 1/N for the generalized Hubbard model and 1/S for quantum spin systems, the strength of quantum corrections to spin stiffness and spin-wave energies…

Sodium ion ordering on in situ cleaved NaxCoO2 (x=0.84) surface has been studied by ultra high vacuum scanning tunneling microscopy (UHV-STM) at room temperature. Three main phases, with p(3x3), (root 7 x root 7), and (2 root 3 x 2 root 3) hexagonal unit cells and surface Na concentration of 1/3, 3/7, 1/2, respectivel…

Giant carrier mobility in single crystals of FeSb2

Rongwei Hu、V. F. Mitrović、C. Petrović2008-05-05Applied Physics Letters

We report the giant carrier mobility in single crystals of FeSb2. Nonlinear field dependence of Hall resistivity is well described with the two-carrier model. Maximum mobility values in high mobility band reach ∼105cm2∕Vs at 8K and are ∼102cm2∕Vs at the room temperature. Our results point to a class of materials with…

Magnetization reversal and nonexponential relaxation via instabilities of internal spin waves in nanomagnets

D. A. Garanin、H. Kachkachi、L. Reynaud2008-05-05arXiv

A magnetic particle with atomic spins ordered in an unstable direction is an example of a false vacuum that decays via excitation of internal spin waves. Coupled evolution of the particle's magnetization (or the vacuum state) and spin waves, considered in the time-dependent vacuum frame, leads to a peculiar relaxation…
