We investigate a nonlinear dynamical system which "remembers" preselected values of a system parameter. The deterministic version of the system can encode many parameter values during a transient period, but in the limit of long times, almost all of them are forgotten. Here we show that a certain type of stochastic no…

This article completes the presentation of a model of photoelectric phenomena taking place in metal–insulator–semiconductor (MIS) structures at low electric fields, which was introduced in Ref. [H. M. Przewlocki, J. Appl. Phys. 78, 2550 (1995)]. A solution and analysis of model’s equations is given for the general cas…

Disordered solids: Universal behavior of structure, dynamics, and transport phenomena

V. K. Malinovskiǐ1999-05-01Physics of the Solid State

Disordered materials (glasses and amorphous substances, melts, polymers, biological media, etc.) are an important class of objects. Despite the chaos usually associated with their structure, glasses and amorphous substances of various kinds (semiconducting, dielectric, metallic) possess a universal spatial scale lengt…

Dielectric relaxation spectra in ferroelectric P(VDF-TrFE) copolymers

J. Ménégotto、Laurent Ibos、A. Bernès 等 5 位作者1999-05-01Ferroelectrics

Dielectric spectroscopy (DS) and Thermally Stimulated Current (TSC) are employed to study the dynamics of Poly(VinyliDene Fluoride-TriFluoroEthylene) copolymers. Dielectric spectra reveal the existence of three relaxation processes: the β relaxation or the glass transition relaxation, the secondary γ relaxation presen…

XAS investigation on polyvalent cation intercalation in V2O5 aerogels

Marco Giorgetti、Stefano Passerini、Mario Berrettoni 等 4 位作者1999-05-01Journal of Synchrotron Radiation

In this report are presented the results of XAS investigations on zinc intercalated V20 s. EXAFS spectra recorded at the Zn k-edge showed differences in the first shell of intercalated Zn 2 as the concentration increased. The interaction of zinc ions with the surrounding V20 s aerogel structure is discussed as well.

Melting of Gelatin Crystals below Glass Transition Temperature: A Direct Crystal-Glass Transition as Revealed by Microhardness

S. Fakirov、M. E. Cagiao、F. J. Baltá Calleja 等 5 位作者1999-05-01International Journal of Polymeric Materials

In the present paper the effect of crystallization conditions on the melting temperature (Tm ) of chemically cross-linked gelatin is studied by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and microhardness (H) measurements as extension of our recent findings (Ref. [11]). A rather unusual situation when polymer cr…

Experimental trajectories of two drops in planar extensional flow

Derek C. Tretheway、Masahiro Muraoka、L. Gary Leal1999-05-01Physics of Fluids

In this paper we map the experimental trajectories of two deformable drops in planar extensional flow and compare the experimental results with theoretical calculations for spherical drops. We examine the effects that deformation, initial position, and viscosity ratio have on the interaction of two drops and the neces…

Takaharu Ikeda、Bunichiro Yamada1999-05-01Polymer International

Radical copolymerizations of zinc dimethacrylate and 2-(N-ethylperfluorooctanesulphonamido)ethyl acrylate initiated with di-t-butyl peroxy di-isopropylbenzene were carried out in various amounts of DMF for 10 h at 140 °C in the presence of hydrogenated nitrile-butadiene rubber (HNBR) as a simulation of copolymerizatio…

A facile and convenient method for the preparation of macrocyclic diamides

Hashem Sharghi、Khodabakhsh Niknam、Ahmad Reza Massah1999-05-01Journal of Heterocyclic Chemistry

Abstract A number of macrocyclic diamides have been synthesized from the reaction of a diacid dicarboxylic dichloride with primary diamino compound in the presence of magnesium oxide‐silica gel at room temperature in good yields. Using urea and thiourea as well as diamines to produce the corresponding macrocycles in t…

A Non-Isothermal Model to Study the Influence of Blowing Agent Concentration on Polymer Viscosity and Gas Diffusivity in Thermoplastic Foam Extrusion

N. S. Ramesh、Nelson Malwitz1999-05-01Journal of Cellular Plastics

This fundamental study focuses on the influence of blowing agent on bubble growth during thermoplastic foam extrusion. The extruded molten mixture expands and cools simultaneously when exposed to ambient conditions. The bubble growth is influenced by the concentration-dependent blowing agent diffusion coefficient, tra…

Uniform, ultrafine, microcrystalline, hard, pyroxenic glass‐ceramic materials have been obtained successfully from basalt rock; instead of adding nucleation catalysts, the FeO:Fe 2 O 3 , CaO:Na 2 O, and CaO:MgO ratios have been rectified. This process has been accomplished by deliberately adding the smallest permissib…

Effects of polymer chains on structure and dynamics of supercooled water in poly(vinyl alcohol)

Yoshinori Tamai、Hideki Tanaka1999-05-01Physical review. E, Statistical physics, plasmas, fluids, and related interdisciplinary topics

Molecular-dynamics simulations for poly(vinyl alcohol) hydrogels have been carried out in a wide temperature range 150-400 K to examine effects of polymer chains on structure and dynamics of supercooled water in hydrogels. A fragile-strong character of water under perturbations of polymer chains is examined. Polymer c…
