Electrogeneration of base by cathodic reduction of anions: novel one-step route to unary and layered double hydroxides (LDHs)

L. Indira、P. Vishnu Kamath1994-01-01Journal of Materials Chemistry

Electrodeposition of several unary and layered double hydroxides has been achieved by electrogeneration of base from the cathodic reduction of metal salt solutions such as nitrate or perchlorate. This simple one-step preparation can be adapted as a soft chemical route to the preparation of thin films of hydroxides.

Design of Nanoscopic Vehicles for Drug Targeting Based on Micellization of Amphiphiuc Block Copolymers

Kazunori Kataoka1994-01-01Journal of Macromolecular Science Part A

Block copolymers in a selective solvent (a good solvent for one block but a nonsolvent for the other) form micellar structures through the association of the insoluble segments. Micelles formed through the association of amphiphilic block copolymers have several advantageous features as drug carrier systems due to the…

Titanium-substituted zeolite beta(Ti-Al-β)-catalysed epoxidation of oct-1-ene with tert-butyl hydroperoxide(TBHP)

Takashi Sato、Jihad Dakka、Roger A. Sheldon1994-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Chemical Communications

Titanium substituted zeolite beta(Ti-Al-β) catalyses the epoxidation of oct-1-ene with TBHP; high selectivities to epoxide (92–100%) are observed when the Brønsted acid sites are neutralized by ion exchange with alkali or alkaline earth metal ions.

Phospholipid molecular species influence crystal habits and transition sequences of metastable intermediates during cholesterol crystallization from bile salt-rich model bile.

Fred M. Konikoff、David E. Cohen、M C Carey1994-01-01Journal of Lipid Research

Despite its importance in cholesterol gallstone formation, crystallization of cholesterol from bile is poorly understood, especially with respect to the influences of other biliary lipids. We reported recently (Konikoff et al. J. Clin. Invest. 1992. 90: 1155-1160) that cholesterol can crystallize from model and native…

Enhanced Cooling of Shape Memory Alloy Wires Using Semiconductor "Heat Pump" Modules

Ali R. Shahin、Peter H. Meckl、James D. Jones 等 4 位作者1994-01-01Journal of Intelligent Material Systems and Structures

A novel concept of using semiconductor "heat pump" modules to heat and cool Nitinol shape memory alloy (SMA) wires under a zero-stress condition is analytically investigated in an effort to examine the feasibility of reducing the response time for complete thermal cycling. A heat transfer model is developed to provide…

Effect of spacer length on the thermal properties of side-chain liquid-crystal poly(methacrylate)s

Aileen A. Craig、Corrie T. Imrie1994-01-01Journal of Materials Chemistry

A series of side-chain liquid crystal polymers, the poly[ω-(4′-methoxybiphenyl-4-yloxy)alkyl methacrylate]s, have been synthesized in which the spacer length is varied from 3 to 12 methylene units. This is the first example of a poly(methacrylate)-based side-chain liquid crystal polymer series for which as many as 10…

Ring‐Opening Polymerization and ring‐closing depolymerization

Hartwig Höcker、Helmut Keul1994-01-01Advanced Materials

Ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of cyclic monomers is most suitable for the preparation of sequential copolymers of the type (AAB) n , the sequence being determined by the structure of the monomer. The thermodynamics and mechanisms of ROP are reviewed, including radical, cationic, anionic, and metathetical ROP, with…

Suming Li、Michel Vert1994-01-01Polymer International

Abstract Hydrolytic degradation of intrinsically amorphous poly( DL ‐lactic acid) was re‐examined in pH 7.4 isoosmolar phosphate buffer at 37°C. Size‐exclusion chromatogarphy, X‐ray scattering and differential scanning calorimetry were used to monitor molecular weight and morphology changes up to the ultimate degradat…

The effects of such constituents as the crosslinked part, non-crosslinked LDPE part, antioxidant, and residual byproducts on the formation of space charge in XLPE have been investigated. It has been found that homocharge is developed in the pure crosslinked part of XLPE. The non-crosslinked LDPE part encourages the fo…

Postdeposition Annealing Influence on Sputtered Indium Tin Oxide Film Characteristics

Masatoshi Higuchi、Shin‐ichiro Uekusa、Ryotaro Nakano 等 4 位作者1994-01-01Japanese Journal of Applied Physics

The influence of postdeposition annealing on sputtered indium tin oxide (ITO) film characteristics were investigated. The annealing experiments were carried out in air or vacuum atmosphere. Both air and vacuum annealing decreased the resistivity up to heat treatment of 200° C. Over 300° C treatment, air annealing incr…

It is shown that the relevant spectral features which arise in the infrared spectrum of poly(3-methylthiophene) upon chemical doping or photoexcitation (i.e., in the electrically conducting form) can be properly explained by means of the effective conjugation coordinate (ECC) formalism.
