Formation and Stability Regions of the High‐Temperature Fluorite‐Related Phase in the R2O3‐Ta2O5 System (R = La, Nd, Sm, Ho, Er, and Yb)

Yoshiyuki Yokogawa、Masahiro Yoshimura1997-08-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Solid‐state reaction and annealing of melts of samples in the R 2 O 3 ‐Ta 2 O 5 system (R is a rare‐earth element, i.e., La, Nd, Sm, Ho, Er, and Yb) revealed a defect‐fluorite phase (F‐phase) at high temperatures. The formation region of this F‐phase was in the region of ˜70‐80 mol% R 2 O 3 for small rare‐earth ions,…

The 3-regular nets with four and six vertices per unit cell

Michael Bäder、W. E. Klee、Georg Thimm1997-08-01Zeitschrift für Kristallographie - Crystalline Materials

Abstract The 3-regular (“3-connected”) nets with four and six vertices per unit cell are enumerated. The large number of nets obtained (five and 269, resp.) is in stark contrast to the small number (two and twelve, resp.) which are of crystallographic interest. This subset of crystallographically interesting nets is c…

Kinetics of the dissolution of silica in aqueous sodium hydroxide solutions at high pressure and temperature

Ferida Jendoubi、Arbi Mgaidi、Mohamed El Maaoui1997-08-01The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering

Abstract The kinetic of the reaction of sand with aqueous NaOH corresponding to the ratio SiO 2 /Na 2 O = 2 was studied in a pressure vessel at 220°C and 2.7 MPa. Since the kinetic curves could not be obtained directly from the experimental data, a new method is proposed to plot the entire kinetic graph from experimen…

Vincenzo Liotta、Christos Georgakis、E. David Sudol 等 4 位作者1997-08-01Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research

The utility of the growth mechanism to influence relative particle growth is investigated in a semi-batch reactor. A dynamic competitive growth model is developed and used to simulate the growth of two monodisperse polystyrene particle populations (bidisperse system) at 50 °C. Validation of the model with on-line dens…

Dynamical Hysteresis without Static Hysteresis: Scaling Laws and Asymptotic Expansions

Fernando Broner、Guillermo H. Goldsztein、Steven H. Strogatz1997-08-01SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics

Abstract. We study dynamical hysteresis in a simple class of nonlinear ordinary differential equations, namely first-order equations subject to sinusoidal forcing. The assumed nonlinearities are such that the area of the hysteresis loop vanishes as the forcing frequency tends to zero; in other words, there is no stati…

Siegfried Grossmann、Sascha Hilgenfeldt、Detlef Lohse 等 4 位作者1997-08-01The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America

The sound radiation of 3-MHz acoustically driven air bubbles in liquid is analyzed with respect to possible applications in second harmonic ultrasound diagnostics devices, which have recently come into clinical use. In the forcing pressure amplitude Pa=1–10 atm and ambient radius R0=0.5–5 μm parameter domain, a narrow…

The skeletal calcium/phosphorus ratio: A new in vivo method of determination

George Fountos、Seiichi Yasumura、D. Glaros1997-08-01Medical Physics

We describe a new method for assessing the Ca/P ratio of bone in vivo using gamma-ray photon absorptiometry. The theoretical approach of the method and the estimation of the variance are presented. Two radiation sources, Gd-153 (100 keV), and I-125 (27.5 keV), and a germanium detector were used to determine this ratio…

RECENT LIQUID CRYSTAL MATERIAL DEVELOPMENT FOR ACTIVE MATRIX DISPLAYS

Kazuaki Tarumi、Matthias Bremer、Thomas Geelhaar1997-08-01Annual Review of Materials Science

▪ Abstract The structural dependence of the optical and dielectric physical properties of liquid crystal (LC) materials is investigated with the aid of molecular modeling. A material characterization of LC materials is made using fundamental physical measurement values, e.g. optical, dielectric, elastic, and viscous p…

Blends of acrylic polymer (containing acrylonitrile 91.7%, methyl acrylate 7%, and sodium methyl propenyl sulfonate 1.3% [wt %], denoted as PAC) with silk fibroin (SF) were studied in the form of drawn fibers with varied compositions. The strength, elongation, and specific work of rupture of the blend fibers decrease…

Heat of Fusion and Surface Tension of Solids Confined in Porous Materials Derived from a Combined Use of NMR and Calorimetry

Eddy W. Hansen、Hans Chr. Gran、Erik J. Sellevold1997-08-01The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

Assuming the heat of fusion (Δ h f ) of a material confined in a porous material to be approximated by a function Δ h f = Δ h 0 (1 + a 0 (10 3 / T ) + a 1 (10 3 / T ) 2 ), where T is the absolute temperature, a theoretical model is derived that enables the coefficients a i to be determined from a combined use of NMR a…

Poly-beta-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) synthesis in a cyanobacterium, Synechococcus sp. strain MA19, is controlled at the enzyme level and is dependent on the C/N balance in the culture medium. The control involves at least two enzymes. The first enzyme is PHB synthase. Little PHB synthase activity was detected in crude extr…

Using Dissipative Particle Dynamics to Model Binary Immiscible Fluids

Keir E. Novik、Peter V. Coveney1997-08-01International Journal of Modern Physics C

We investigate the domain growth and phase separation of two-dimensional binary immiscible fluid systems using dissipative particle dynamics. Our results are compared with similar simulations using other techniques, and we conclude that dissipative particle dynamics is a promising method for simulating these systems.
