The total biological synthesis of CaCO 3 crystals of the metastable vaterite polymorph at room temperature by simple protein-mediated reaction of aqueous Ca 2+ ions with the CO 2 generated during the root growth from germinating chickpea ( Cicer arietinum ) seeds is described. Highly stable vaterite crystals of spheri…

J. Hamblin、Neil Abboyi、Mark P. Lowe2004-12-08Chemical Communications

On binding to human serum albumin (HSA), the Eu(III) luminescent emission enhancement of a complex containing a binaphthyl chromophore enables the determination of binding constants, showing no chiral discrimination for the (R)- (K= 8200 +/- 810 M(-1)) and (S)-enantiomers (K= 7710 +/- 460 M(-1)).

Dendritic incorporation of quinacridone: solubility, aggregation, electrochemistry, and solid-state luminescence

Adrián Ortiz、Ware H. Flora、Gemma D. D’Ambruoso 等 5 位作者2004-12-08Chemical Communications

The first incorporation of quinacridone, a technologically important organic electroluminescent emitter, into dendrimers increases solubility, decreases aggregation, retards heterogeneous electron transfer, and enhances luminescence in condensed phases (powders and thin films).

Hydrophilic–hydrophobic interplay: from model systems to living systems

Marie‐Claire Bellissent‐Funel2004-12-08Comptes Rendus Géoscience

Water is a unique liquid, many of whose properties are critical for the continued support of life. In living systems, essential water-related phenomena occur in restricted geometries in cells, and at active sites of proteins and membranes or at their surface. The stability of biological systems is controlled by the su…

High-Capacity Sulfur Dioxide Absorbents for Diesel Emissions Control

Liyu Li、David L. King2004-12-08Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research

High-capacity sulfur dioxide absorbents based on manganese oxide octahedral molecular sieves (OMS) have been identified. These materials are based on MnO 6 octahedra sharing faces and edges to form various tunnel structures (2 × 2, 2 × 3, 2 × 4, 3 × 3) differentiated by the number of octahedra on a side. The SO 2 capa…

Anion-Exchange Equilibrium and Phase Segregation in Hydrotalcite Systems: Intercalation of Hexacyanoferrate(III) Ions

Matı́as Jobbágy、Alberto E. Regazzoni2004-12-08The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

The intercalation of hexacyanoferrate(III) in chloride-hydrotalcite was studied as a function of the composition of the equilibrated aqueous phase, the relevant solution variable being the ratio (C(Fe(CN)(6)(3-))(1/3)/C(Cl)-. The isotherm shows that the exchange is markedly nonideal and reveals the segregation of two…

Cédric R. Mayer、Eddy Dumas、F. Sécheresse2004-12-08Chemical Communications

Two polypyridyl ruthenium complexes containing either a terminal pyridine or phenanthroline group have been used to coat silver nanoparticles and control their size depending on the Ag/[RuII] ratio.

Carbon nanotube thin films with ordered structures

Chunsheng Du、Jeff Yeh、Ning Pan2004-12-08Journal of Materials Chemistry

Carbon nanotube thin films with ordered structures have been developed from a highly concentrated suspension of nanotubes; this is shown to be an attractive approach to fabricating electrodes for high power density supercapacitors.

One-electron oxidation-induced dimerising C–C coupling of a 2,5-diamino-1,4-benzoquinonediimine: a chemical and electrochemical investigation

J. Taquet、Olivier Siri、Jean‐Paul Collin 等 5 位作者2004-12-08New Journal of Chemistry

The one-electron oxidation of N,N′,N″,N‴-tetraneopentyl-2,5-diamino-1,4-benzoquinonediimine 3 has been carried out using Ag(I) as an oxidising agent and led to the formation of the postulated nitrogen-based radical cation B. This unstable species can evolve by following two competing pathways, either a hydrogen atom a…

Proton controlled intramolecular photoinduced electron transfer (PET) in podand linked squaraine–aniline dyads

Easwaran Arunkumar、Ayyappanpillai Ajayaghosh2004-12-08Chemical Communications

Proton controlled intramolecular PET from an aniline moiety to a squaraine chromophore, attached to podand chains is reported, which to our knowledge is the first example where a squaraine dye is involved as an electron acceptor in an intramolecular PET process, and has implication in the design of PET based sensors.

Tanja Weil、Moustafa A. Abdalla、Claudia Jatzke 等 5 位作者2004-12-08Biomacromolecules

The synthesis of perylene and terrylene chromophores carrying a single poly(ethylene oxide) chain is presented. These chromophores reveal a strong solvatochromic behavior: High fluorescence in nonpolar solvents and weak fluorescence in polar solvents which is mainly attributed to aggregation. Therefore, such chromopho…

Self-assembly of glycolipids on silica nanotube templates yielding hybrid nanotubes with concentric organic and inorganic layers

Qingmin Ji、Shoko Kamiya、Jonghwa Jung 等 4 位作者2004-12-08Journal of Materials Chemistry

The fabrication of organic–inorganic hybrid nanotubes organized into concentric layers is described. Self-assembly of glycolipids inside the confined nanospace of hollow cylindrical silica nanotubes produced a hybrid nanotube consisting of two concentric layers, one of silica and one of lipid. Addition of glucopyranos…

Chlorins/oxochlorins bearing distinct patterns of substituents are valuable compounds in bioorganic and materials chemistry. Treatment of a 5,10-diaryl-substituted chlorin or oxochlorin with TFA-d(1) resulted in selective deuteriation of the remaining meso positions (15, 20) rather than any of the beta-pyrrolic positi…

A common method for preventing scale formation is the use of chemical scale inhibitors such as aminotri(methylene phosphonic acid) (ATMP). Scale inhibitors are injected and retained in the reservoir by adsorption and/…
