Intrinsic electric field effects on few-particle interactions in coupled GaN quantum dots

Sergio De Rinaldis、Irene D'Amico、Fausto Rossi2004-02-09arXiv

We study the multi-exciton optical spectrum of vertically coupled GaN/AlN quantum dots with a realistic three-dimensional direct-diagonalization approach for the description of few-particle Coulomb-correlated states. We present a detailed analysis of the fundamental properties of few-particle/exciton interactions pecu…

Superconductivity in metal rich Li-Pd-B ternary Boride

K. Togano、P. Badica、Y. Nakamori 等 6 位作者2004-02-09arXiv

8K superconductivity was observed in the metal rich Li-Pd-B ternary system. Structural, microstructural, electrical and magnetic investigations for various compositions proved that Li2Pd3B compound, which has a cubic structure composed of distorted Pd6B octahedrons, is responsible for the superconductivity. This is th…

Evidence of large anisotropy in the magnetization of Na0.35CoO2.1.3H2O quasi-single-crystal superconductors

P. Badica、T. Kondo、K. Togano 等 4 位作者2004-02-09arXiv

Quasi-single crystals (up to 2x2x1 mm3) of Na0.35CoO2.1.3H2O-superconductor have been grown. Magnetization M(H, T) and M(T, H) curves with magnetic field approximately parallel and perpendicular to c-axis indicates on large anisotropy, comparable with Bi-based high-temperature superconducting (HTS) phases.

Combined first-principles and experimental investigations reveal the underlying mechanism responsible for a drastic change of the conductivity (by 10 orders of magnitude) following hydrogen annealing and UV-irradiation in a transparent oxide, 12CaO.7Al2O3, found by Hayashi et al. The charge transport associated with p…

Spin and Valley dependent analysis of the two-dimensional low-density electron system in Si-MOSFETS

M. W. C. Dharma-wardana、François Perrot2004-02-09arXiv

The 2-D electron system (2DES) in Si metal-oxide field-effect transistors (MOSFETS) consists of two distinct electron fluids interacting with each other. We calculate the total energy as a function of the density $n$, and the spin polarization $ζ$ in the strongly-correlated low-density regime, using a classical mappin…

Molecular electronics exploiting sharp structure in the electrode density-of-states. Negative differential resistance and Resonant Tunneling in a poled molecular layer on Al/LiF electrodes

Z. H. Lu、M. W. C. Dharma-wardana、R. S. Khangura 等 5 位作者2004-02-09arXiv

Density-functional calculations are used to clarify the role of an ultrathin LiF layer on Al electrodes used in molecular electronics. The LiF layer creates a sharp density of states (DOS), as in a scanning-tunneling microscope (STM) tip. The sharp DOS, coupled with the DOS of the molecule leads to negative differenti…

A study of the static yield stress in a binary Lennard-Jones glass

Fathollah Varnik、Lydéric Bocquet、Barrat, L.2004-02-08Max Planck Digital Library

The stress-strain relations and the yield behavior of model glass (a 80:20 binary Lennard-Jones mixture) is studied by means of MD simulations. First, a thorough analysis of the static yield stress is presented via simulations under imposed stress. Furthermore, using steady shear simulations, the effect of physical ag…

Reconstruction of silicon surfaces: a stochastic optimization problem

Cristian V. Ciobanu、Cristian Predescu2004-02-08arXiv

Over the last two decades, scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) has become one of the most important ways to investigate the structure of crystal surfaces. STM has helped achieve remarkable successes in surface science such as finding the atomic structure of Si(111) and Si(001). For high-index Si surfaces the informat…

Universal Intrinsic Spin-Hall Effect

Jairo Sinova、Dimitrie Culcer、Q. Niu 等 6 位作者2004-02-08arXiv

We describe a new effect in semiconductor spintronics that leads to dissipationless spin-currents in paramagnetic spin-orbit coupled systems. We argue that in a high mobility two-dimensional electron system with substantial Rashba spin-orbit coupling, a spin-current that flows perpendicular to the charge current is in…

Benzocyclobutene-Based Polymers for Microelectronic Applications

Ying‐Hung So、P Garrou、Jang‐Hi Im 等 4 位作者2004-02-07ACS symposium series

Benzocyclobutene polymerization chemistry is unique and attractive in microelectronics because the thermally activated BCB ring-opening reaction does not produce any volatiles such as water, and products from BCB reactions are nonpolar hydrocarbon moieties. The excellent film-forming properties of divinyltetramethylsi…

Improvements of the Poly(vinyl cinnamate) Photoresponse in Order to Induce High Refractive Index Variations

Imane Assaı̈d、Dominique Bosc、Isabelle Hardy2004-02-07The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

Under UV irradiation, poly(vinyl cinnamate) (PVCi) films undergo cross-linking due to [2 + 2] photocycloaddition between cinnamoyl groups. Consequently, electronic configuration of lateral polymer groups changes and also leads to the drop of the refractive index in the visible range. This mechanism is studied with reg…

Mechanical properties of melt-spun and postdrawn isotactic polypropylene (iPP) are studied to examine the dependence on the temperature in the postdrawing stage. In accordance with the literature, the Young's modulus is uniquely determined by the applied draw ratio. However, in contrast to the literature, we found tha…
