Electric fields and valence band offsets at strained [111] heterojunctions

S. Picozzi、A. Continenza、A. J. Freeman1997-02-03arXiv

[111] ordered common atom strained layer superlattices (in particular the common anion GaSb/InSb system and the common cation InAs/InSb system) are investigated using the ab initio full potential linearized augmented plane wave (FLAPW) method. We have focused our attention on the potential line-up at the two sides of…

Strain-Dependence of Surface Diffusion: Ag on Ag(111) and Pt(111)

C. Ratsch、A. P. Seitsonen、M. Scheffler1997-02-03arXiv

Using density-functional theory with the local-density approximation and the generalized gradient approximation we compute the energy barriers for surface diffusion for Ag on Pt(111), Ag on one monolayer of Ag on Pt(111), and Ag on Ag(111). The diffusion barrier for Ag on Ag(111) is found to increase linearly with inc…

Martensitic Tweed and the Two-Way Shape-Memory Effect

James P. Sethna、Christopher R. Myers1997-02-03arXiv

We briefly introduce tweed, which is found above the martensitic transition in a variety of shape-memory, high-T_c, and other materials. Based on our previous mapping of the problem onto a spin-glass model, we conjecture that the two-way shape-memory effect is due to tweed.

Direct Pseudopotential Calculation of Exciton Coulomb and Exchange Energies in Semiconductor Quantum Dots

Alberto Franceschetti、Alex Zunger1997-02-03Physical Review Letters

The effects of electron-hole interaction on the exciton energy of semiconductor quantum dots are calculated using pseudopotential wave functions. A comparison with the widely used, but never tested, effective-mass approximation (EMA) shows that the electron-hole Coulomb energy is significantly ( $\ensuremath{\sim}40%$…

meso, meso‐Linked Porphyrin Arrays

Atsuhiro Osuka、Hitoshi Shimidzu1997-02-03OpenAlex

The perpendicular arrangement of porphyrin units in dimer 1 is reflected in a large excitonic coupling that leads to splitting of the Soret bands and only modest spectral changes in the Q-bands. Compound 1 and the analogous trimer and tetramer are prepared by oxidative coupling of the corresponding 5,15-diarylporphyri…

Influence of Substitutions on Ferrimagnetic Ordering of Nickel Ferrites

Daria Vladikova、L. Ilkov1997-02-01physica status solidi (a)

The influence of single and simultaneous substitution with Zn and Al on magnetic ordering in nickel ferrites has been investigated by the statistics of superexchange interactions developed by Gilleo. The additional magnetic weakening due to the magnetic ions excluded from participation in ferrimagnetism has been inclu…

Neutron Diffraction Study of the τ-Phase of Carbon-Doped Mn–Al Alloy

В. Т. Эм、I.S. Latergaus、A. Sh. Remeev 等 4 位作者1997-02-01physica status solidi (a)

The metastable ferromagnetic τ-phase of the Mn–Al–C system has been studied by neutron diffraction to determine the lattice sites occupied by carbon atoms. The data obtained for Mn0.56Al0.44C0.018 and Mn0.56Al0.44C0.024 samples show that the carbon sublattice is ordered and carbon atoms occupy interstitial sites (1/2,…

Polymer‐solvent co‐crystallization during thermoreversible gelation in solutions of the helical polypeptide PBLG

Rafi Tadmor、A. Dagan、Yachin Cohen1997-02-01Macromolecular Symposia

Abstract Macromolecular aggregation during thermoreversible gelation in solutions of the helical polypeptide poly(γ‐benzyl‐L‐glutamate) [PBLG] in benzyl alcohol [BA] were studied by small angle neutron and small angle X‐ray scattering. Gelation is apparent as a large increase in the intensity scattered at low angles,…

Temperature dependence of electromigration threshold in Cu

Richard Frankovic、Gary H. Bernstein1997-02-01Journal of Applied Physics

Electromigration threshold, the product of current density, j, and the threshold length, lth, was measured for unencapsulated thin-film Cu conductors using edge-displacement techniques. jlth was measured between 175 and 275 °C, and was found to be temperature dependent above 200 °C where jlth decreased with increasing…

Rapid Thermal Processing of Semiconductor Wafers: An Optimized Approach Using Gas Conduction in the Molecular Regime

J. ‐F. Daviet1997-02-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

This paper describes the modeling of a simple, nonconventional approach to rapid thermal processing for semiconductor applications. The principle underlying the technology is the use of gas conduction in the molecular regime to transfer heat from a hot chuck to the wafer. We demonstrate here that rapid and intrinsical…

The Influence of Crimp Measurements on the Development and Appraisal of 3D Fully Integrated Woven Structures

B.J. Hill、R. McIlhagger、Julie Soden 等 5 位作者1997-02-01Polymers and Polymer Composites

There is a need for an analytical assessment of the properties of 3D woven structures. In this paper a sophisticated method of predicting the proportions of fibre in three mutually perpendicular axes, X (warp), Y (weft) and Z (through-the-thickness), of 3D fully integrated complex woven structures is described. Unlike…

Naturally Occuring Organic Substances as Corrosion Inhibitors for mild steel in acid medium

Mourad Rahim、H.B. Hassan、Munawar Khalil1997-02-01Materialwissenschaft und Werkstofftechnik

Abstract Inhibition of the corrosion of mild steel in H 2 SO 4 by amino acids was studied by measuring the Tafel polarization curves. Nineteen different naturally occuring amino acids were used as corrosion inhibitors. Two‐site adsorption model was proposed to explain the adsorption of some amino acids on the metal su…

Abstract Divalent tin has been intercalated into montmorillonite by reacting partially hydrolyzed solutions of SnCl 2 under aerobic conditions at pH = 2.8 with aqueous dispersions of the smectite mineral. The precursor tin solution contains mainly the cationic trimeric ion Sn 3 (OH) 4 2+ , which is shown to take part…

Data on the thermal conductivity ϰ ph of the cluster lattice of synthetic opals are analyzed. All opals are divided into two groups according to the temperature dependence of their ϰ ph . These are opals-1, whose thermal conductivity behaves like ϰ ph ( T ) of quasi-crystalline materials, and opals-2, with a ϰ ph ( T…
