Lattice thermal conductivity of wires

S. G. Walkauskas、David Broido、Krzysztof Kempa 等 4 位作者1999-03-01Journal of Applied Physics

The lattice thermal conductivity of free standing wires is calculated within a Boltzmann equation approach. Diffusive and specular phonon scattering at the wire surfaces are included by appropriate boundary conditions on the phonon distribution. The wire thermal conductivity is found to decrease markedly below the bul…

Type II collagen is the main structural component of hyaline cartilages where it forms networks of thin fibrils that differ in morphology from the much thicker fibrils of type I collagen. We studied here in vitro the formation of fibrils of pepsin-treated recombinant human type II collagen produced in insect cells. Tw…

Equilibrium states and phase transitions in epitaxial ferroelectric thin films

N. A. Pertsev、A. G. Zembilgotov、A. K. Tagantsev1999-03-01Ferroelectrics

A Landau-Ginsburg-Devonshire-type thermodynamic theory is used to describe equilibrium single-domain states and phase transitions in epitaxial ferroelectric thin films. For BaTiO3 and PbTiO3 films grown on cubic substrates, the paraelectric to ferroelectric phase transition is found to be of the second order, irrespec…

Effects of Electric Double Layer and Space Charge Polarization by Plural Kinds of Ions on Complex Dielectric Constant of Liquid Crystal Materials

Atsushi Sawada、Kazuaki Tarumi、Shohei Naemura1999-03-01Japanese Journal of Applied Physics

The complex dielectric constant of a liquid crystal material, 4-cyano-4 ′ -alkyl-biphenyl (5CB), was measured in low-frequency regions below 1000 Hz. The anomalous increasing behavior was analyzed using an equivalent circuit which takes two kinds of contributions into account: one is from the electric double layer and…

Synthesis and Characterization of Vanadium-Substituted Mesoporous Molecular Sieves

Di Wei、Hui Wang、Xiaobing Feng 等 9 位作者1999-03-01The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

First-row transition metal containing silicalite zeolites are important oxidation catalysts. Special attention has been devoted to develop new systems with an uniform pore size distribution which would allow large molecules to reach the active sites inside the structure. In the present paper, a series of vanadium-cont…

Structural and electro-optical investigations of the smectic phase of chlorine-substituted banana-shaped compounds

G. Pelzl1999-03-01Liquid Crystals

Six members of a new homologous series of achiral banana-shaped molecules have been synthesized and studied by optical microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. According to X-ray diffraction measurements on oriented samples, four homologues form an XB2 phase behaviour. Fro…

Polyaniline Layer for Iron Protection in Sulfate Medium

Marie‐Claude Bernard、Anne Hugot‐Le Goff、S. Joiret 等 5 位作者1999-03-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

Polyaniline (PANI) has been electrodeposited on iron in oxalic medium in order to evaluate the protective character of this polymer. PANI has been found to be efficient for corrosion protection during at least 10 h in a pH 4.5 sulfate medium. Interaction between the passive layer and polymer has been studied using spe…

A High Quantum Yield Diarylethene-Backbone Photochromic Polymer

Francesco Stellacci、Chiaro Bertarelli、F. Toscano 等 6 位作者1999-03-01Advanced Materials

Photochromism that arises from the main polymer backbone is reported for the first time. The synthesized polymer with the diarylethene repeat unit is demonstrated to have photochromic properties superior to those of the monomer. The polymer has high thermal stability and its cyclization quantum yield (0.85) is very hi…

Computed optical emissions from a sonoluminescing bubble

William C. Moss、David A. Young、J. A. Harte 等 7 位作者1999-03-01Physical review. E, Statistical physics, plasmas, fluids, and related interdisciplinary topics

A sonoluminescing bubble has been modeled as a thermally conducting, partially ionized plasma. The model is more complete than previous models, due to the inclusion of both plasma and normal molecular thermal conduction, vapor pressure, surface tension, the mixing of gas and water vapor in the bubble, and opacities. T…

We consider a model of strongly correlated ${e}_{g}$ electrons interacting by superexchange orbital interactions in the ferromagnetic phase of ${\mathrm{LaMnO}}_{3}.$ It is found that the classical orbital order with alternating occupied ${e}_{g}$ orbitals has a full rotational symmetry at orbital degeneracy, and the…

The third-generation dendrimer with 45 platinum atoms (shown schematically) was synthesized efficiently by a convergent methodology in which two different trialkylsilyl groups (symbolized by the nodal points) are used to protect the bridging triethynylbenzene derivatives. PT=[Pt(PEt3)2].

A Small-Angle Scattering Study of Cellulose Whiskers in Aqueous Suspensions

Pierre Térech、Laurent Chazeau、J.Y. Cavaillé1999-03-01Macromolecules

Fillers with dimensions in the nanometer range are important components of nanocomposites materials. A crucial point for the modeling of the resulting mechanical properties is to determine their average dimensions accurately as is required for the mechanical coupling modeling. In this work, reinforcing particules are…

J. F. Liu、Y. Zhang、Dimitar Dimitrov 等 4 位作者1999-03-01Journal of Applied Physics

The effect of ratio z on the high temperature magnetic properties of Sm(Co, Fe, Cu, Zr)z magnets have been examined in a range of ratio z values from 6.7 to 9.1. Reasonably high coercivity at room temperature has been achieved in all the magnets. It was found that the lower the ratio z, the smaller the temperature coe…
