Magnetization of Pb1-xCrxTe Semimagnetic Semiconductor

W. Mac、T. Story、A. Twardowski1995-02-01Acta Physica Polonica A

We present experimental studies of magnetization of Pb1x CrxTe (x < 0.01) crystals. The reasonable description of the data is obtained for a composition of x < 0.001 using Cr+++ model (Brillouin type paramagnetism S = 3/2).

We report high pressure studies on a binary system of 4-(2′-methyl butyl)phenyl 4′-n-octyl biphenyl-4-carboxylate (CE8 from BDH) and 4-n- dodecyloxy biphenyl-4′-(2′-methyl butyl)benzoate (C12). For the concentration range 0.32<X<0.62, where X is the weight fraction of C12, the system shows the following sequence of tr…

Computer simulation of dynamics and morphology of discotic mesophases in extensional flows

Arvinder Singh、Alejandro D. Rey1995-02-01Liquid Crystals

A previously presented model is used to simulate the dynamics and microstructure of spatially invariant uniaxial discotic nematic liquid crystals in isothermal, incompressible, irrotational, extensional (shear-free or elongational) flows. Numerical and analytical solutions of the director n and alignment S are present…

A New Cu-Based SMA with Extremely High Martensitic Transformation Temperatures

J.M. Guilemany、J. Fernández、R. Franch 等 5 位作者1995-02-01Journal de Physique IV (Proceedings)

A new series of high temperature copper based shape memory alloys has recently been patented. These alloys contain 8-20 wt% Al, 1-20 wt% Ag, 0-2 wt% of a minor element (preferably Co), balance c2pper. The martensitic start transformation temperatures of these alloys are above 200 C and, in some cases, they have good h…

Using symmetry in frozen phonon calculations

Harold T. Stokes1995-02-01Ferroelectrics

Software has been developed which applies group-theoretical methods to the calculation of phonon spectra. The software draws on a large data base which includes information on each of the 230 crystallographic space groups and their irreducible representations. The software finds the optimal phonon modes for the frozen…

Pyroelectric properties of ferroelectric liquid crystal cells with chevron, bookshelf, and helical structures

Joseph O'Sullivan、Yu. P. Panarin、J. K. Vij1995-02-01Journal of Applied Physics

The pyroelectric properties of ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) cells possessing helical and surface stabilized structures have been investigated. Pyroelectric properties of a FLC cell depend on the applied voltage, the internal smectic layer structure, and the ratio of the cell thickness to the material pitch d/p0.…

Existence and uniqueness of radially symmetric stationary points within the gradient theory of phase transitions

Barbara Niethammer1995-02-01European Journal of Applied Mathematics

We study radially symmetric stationary points of the functional where u denotes the density of a fluid confined to a container Ω, W(u) is the course-grain free energy and ε accounts for surface energy. Under the further assumption of small energy, that is for small ε, we prove existence of precisely two solutions for…

Structural study of the high-pressure phases of bismuth using high-energy synchrotron radiation

Hiroshi Iwasaki、Jiuhua Chen、Takumi Kikegawa1995-02-01Review of Scientific Instruments

An x-ray diffraction study was carried out on the crystal structure of the high pressure phases of bismuth, Bi III, Bi III′, and Bi IV, using high-energy monochromatic synchrotron radiation from the TRISTAN Accumulation Ring (6.5 GeV). Powdered samples were compressed in a cubic-type multianvil press MAX80 at pressure…

A homologous series of 1,2,4,5-tetra-(4-alkoxybenzoyloxy)benzenes (2, R = C4H9. C6H13 to C16H33 and C18H37) has been synthesised. Optical microscopy revealed that the compounds with R = C4H9, C6H13 to C10H21 have a nematic phase, compounds with R = C11H23 to C14H29 have nematic and smectic C phases and compounds with…

Simultaneous measurement of acoustic emission and electrical resistance variation in stress-corrosion cracking

E Santos-Leal、R. J. López1995-02-01Measurement Science and Technology

A measurement system that simultaneously digitizes acoustic emission pulses in stress-corrosion cracking processes and gauges the electrical resistance variations caused by crack growth has been developed. This tool has allowed us to study the relation between the magnitudes measured by the two systems in stress-corro…

The Effect of Dislocation Substructure and Decomposition on the Course of Diffusionless Transformations

D. Treppmann、Erhard Hornbogen1995-02-01Journal de Physique IV (Proceedings)

The mechanical properties (yield strength, hardness, transformation stresses) and the transformation temperatures of SMA can be affected by the combination of different solid-state reactions. In this context the combination of local change in chemical composition by precipitation processes and the rearrangement of def…
