The Mössbauer spectroscopy is applied to the perovskite compound RbFeF 3 . It is concluded that in the phase realized below T 1 (39 K) the spontaneous magnetization originates in a canting of the spins, i.e. the spins are almost along a pseudo-cubic [011] axis but cant by about 6° from the [011] axis, yielding spontan…
Abstract It is shown that the chemical shift of the generally utilized internal reference for 1 H NMR measurements in superacid media, namely, tetramethylammonium bromide, which is normally fixed at 3.10 ppm from external TMS, changes with the composition of the acid mixture (HF or HSO 3 F:SbF 5 ). This is attributed…
Abstract The visible luminescence spectrum of solid neon containing small amounts of N 2 or O 2 is investigated at 7.8 K using low‐energy electrons. Double‐doping experiments employing N 2 and × (where × is either O 2 , CO or Ar) are also carried out. Particular attention is given to the interpretation of the α(N 2 D—…
The pyroelectric properties of NH4HSeO4 crystals were measured in the temperature range of 100–300 K. A new phase transition was found at 109 K. It was noted that 80% deuteration of the NH4HSeO4 crystals caused these crystals to become non-ferroelectric.

Electrical resistivity measurements have been used to define the Néel temperature in tensile strained chromium. The Néel temperature was observed to increase linearly with tensile stress at a rate dT N/dS = 2·0 × 10−8 K m2 N−1. A model of the strain distribution in chromium was used to estimate the Néel temperature sh…
Theoretical and experimental contrast ratios are compared for homogeneous-to-homeotropic liquid-crystal cells containing fluorescent dye molecules activated by ultraviolet light. Two-color fluorescent displays are described in which one active fluor dissolved in the liquid crystal is used as a UV shutter to switch a p…
Zero shear-rate rheological properties are calculated for dilute emulsions composed of Newtonian droplets dispersed in a continuous immiscible Newtonian phase and containing a rigid concentric spherical inclusion in the interior of each droplet. A first-order analysis of the deformation of such occluded droplets from…
Abstract The Raman spectra of the three solid phases of methyl ammonium chloride and its deuterated analogues have been measured and compared with IR results available in the literature. The static and correlation field splitting of the internal modes have been studied by the use of isotopic solid solutions. The methy…
Large pyroelectric coefficient (1.2 × 104 μC/m2°C at T − Tc ≃ 2°C) in single crystals of SbSI were measured over a temperature range encompassing the ferroelectric phase transition. Simultaneous measurement of the pyroelectric and dielectric constants-were made and the pyroelectric figure of merit p/K was evaluated at…
Abstract The dependence of the Critical Oxygen Index values of some thermoplastic materials on sample sixe is reported. The extent of melting of this class of material is shown to be important in determining the effect of sample size on the index.
This paper describes a small wind tunnel that was constructed to study the effects of wind, electric field, and insulator geometry on the insulator contamination process. The wind tunnel is operated with a kaolin clay and NaCl salt injection system. A voltage source is also available. Several insulator shapes, with vo…
Compression tests on alumina single crystals have been performed under 1500 MPa hydrostatic pressure at temperatures between 25°C and 1800°C Specimens tested for prismatic slip failed below 200°C and those for basal slip below 600°C. Critical resolved shear stresses for both slip systems, have been in the range 100 MP…
Partially Carbamate Reaction of Cellulose with UreaThe reaction of cellulose with urea and substituted ureas has been studied by Segal' and Nuessle.2Some cellulose carbamate derivatives of aromatic amines3 were investigated to prepare in relation to facts that the treated cotton cellulose with urea a t 120°C in alkali…
Abstract The corrosion behaviour of orthopaedic metal implants was studied in an animal experiment in which 30 rabbits had stainless steel plates implanted after a varization osteotomy of the tibiae of their hind legs for one year. ESCA was used for the investigation of the surfaces of the inplants. The removed plates…
Abstract Strips of amorphous cellulose film were conditioned under wet atmospheres of 80 and 100% relative humidity or heated at 393 K in vacuo for different time intervals. The structural change of these samples was investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), IR spectrometry, x‐ray diffractometry (x‐r…
A low-swelling smectite was found in a recent marine mud of Ariake Bay. The Na-clay of this mud swells but to the same extent as the Ca-clay and its dominant interparticle force is not repulsion between individual particles. The sediment volume at low salt concentration and the specific viscosity of the Na-clay were a…
A few developments have been discussed that extend the range of the solid-state extrusion process for processing polymers and polymer morphologies that were difficult to process by conventional solid-state extrusion. The split billet and the push-pull extrusion techniques proceed at faster rates by comparison to the c…
