Spectroscopic Measurement of Interlayer Screening in Multilayer Epitaxial Graphene

Dong Sun、Charles J. Divin、Claire Berger 等 6 位作者2010-04-01Physical Review Letters

The substrate-induced charge-density profile in carbon face epitaxial graphene is determined using nondegenerate ultrafast midinfrared pump-probe spectroscopy. Distinct zero crossings in the differential transmission spectra are used to identify the Fermi levels of layers within the multilayer stack. Probing within th…

Role of interphase on the resistance to high-voltage arcing, on tracking and erosion of silicone/SiO2 nanocomposites

Stephanie Raetzke、J. Kindersberger2010-04-01IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation

In this study a two kinds of silicone/SiO2nanocomposites were tested with respect to their resistance to high-voltage arcing, the resistance to tracking and erosion and their TGA performance. The silicones with filler type F1 show a high improvement of the resistance to high-voltage arcing and the resistance to tracki…

Half-metallic ferromagnetism in transition-metal doped germanium nitride: A first-principles study

Sheng-Li Zhang、Wei Wang、Er-Hu Zhang2010-04-01arXiv

The electronic and magnetic properties of transition-metal doped $β$-Ge3N4 have been studied using first-principles calculations. The results show that the substitutional transition-metal impurities tend to cluster. The V and Cr doped Ge3N4 compounds are ferromagnetic semiconductors, while the compounds with Mn and Fe…

Phenomenological Model of Longitudinal Spin Fluctuations in Itinerant Antiferromagnets

A. Solontsov、V. P. Antropov2010-04-01arXiv

We present the phenomenological analysis of the spectrum of longitudinal spin fluctuations in isotropic itinerant electron antiferromagnets with account of spin anharmonicity giving rise to coupling of transverse and longitudinal normal modes. The spectrum consists of a quasielastic part forming a central peak or a di…

A scanning tunneling microscope for a dilution refrigerator

M. Marz、G. Goll、H. v. Löhneysen2010-04-01Review of Scientific Instruments

We present the main features of a home-built scanning tunneling microscope that has been attached to the mixing chamber of a dilution refrigerator. It allows scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy measurements down to the base temperature of the cryostat, T approximately 30 mK, and in applied magnetic fields u…

Magnetocaloric effect in Pr1 − x Ag x MnO3 manganites

A. G. Gamzatov、A. B. Batdalov、A. M. Aliev 等 7 位作者2010-04-01Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Physics Letters

The magnetocaloric effect in alternating magnetic fields has been investigated in Pr1 − x Ag x MnO3 manganites with x = 0.05−0.25. The stepwise reversal of the sign of the magnetocaloric effect has been revealed in a weakly doped sample (x = 0.05) at low temperatures (∼80 K). This reversal is attributed to the coexist…

Disentangling thermal and non-thermal excited states in a charge-transfer insulator by time-and-frequency resolved pump-probe spectroscopy

Claudio Giannetti、Goran Zgrablic、Cristina Consani 等 9 位作者2010-04-01arXiv

Time-and-frequency resolved pump-probe optical spectroscopy is used to investigate the effect of the impulsive injection of delocalized excitations through a charge-transfer process in insulating CuGeO3. A large broadening of the charge-transfer edge is observed on the sub-ps timescale. The modification of this spectr…

Topological effect on spin transport in a magnetic quantum wire: Green's function approach

Moumita Dey、Santanu K. Maiti、S. N. Karmakar2010-04-01arXiv

We explore spin dependent transport through a magnetic quantum wire which is attached to two non-magnetic metallic electrodes. We adopt a simple tight-binding Hamiltonian to describe the model where the quantum wire is attached to two semi-infinite one-dimensional non-magnetic electrodes. Based on single particle Gree…

Pseudo-surface acoustic waves in hypersonic surface phononic crystals

D. Nardi、F. Banfi、C. Giannetti 等 6 位作者2010-04-01arXiv

We present a theoretical framework allowing to properly address the nature of surface-like eigenmodes in a hypersonic surface phononic crystal, a composite structure made of periodic metal stripes of nanometer size and periodicity of 1 micron, deposited over a semi-infinite silicon substrate. In surface-based phononic…

Geometric optics of Bloch waves in a chiral and dissipative medium

Chuanwei Zhang、Qian Niu2010-04-01arXiv

We present a geometric optics theory for the transport of quantum particles (or classical waves) in a chiral and dissipative periodic crystal subject to slowly varying perturbations in space and time. Taking account of some properties of particles and media neglected in previous theory, we find important additional te…

Acetylation of Chitin Nanofibers and their Transparent Nanocomposite Films

Shinsuke Ifuku、Shin Morooka、Minoru Morimoto 等 4 位作者2010-04-01Biomacromolecules

Chitin nanofibers were acetylated to modify the fiber surface and were characterized in detail. The acetyl DS could be controlled from 0.99 to 2.96 by changing the reaction time. FT-IR spectra indicate that chitin nanofibers were acetylated completely after 50 min reaction time. X-ray diffraction profiles and TGA curv…

Oxidation Catalysis of Nb(salan) Complexes: Asymmetric Epoxidation of Allylic Alcohols Using Aqueous Hydrogen Peroxide as an Oxidant

Hiromichi Egami、Takuya Oguma、Tsutomu Katsuki2010-04-01Journal of the American Chemical Society

Several optically active Nb(salan) complexes were synthesized, and their oxidation catalysis was examined. A dimeric mu-oxo Nb(salan) complex that was prepared from Nb(OiPr)(5) and a salan ligand was found to catalyze the asymmetric epoxidation of allylic alcohols using a urea-hydrogen peroxide adduct as an oxidant wi…
