Energy Transfer from Nucleic Acids to Tb(III): Selective Emission Enhancement by Single DNA Mismatches

Patty K.‐L. Fu、Claudia Turró1998-12-16Journal of the American Chemical Society

Enhanced luminescence resulting from energy transfer (EnT) from nucleic acids to Tb 3+ has been utilized to investigate the binding of the ions to the bases and nucleotides, as well as in the detection of single mismatches in duplexes. Cytosine enhances the Tb 3+ emission, but dCMP does not, indicating that the lantha…

New Insight into the Nature of Cu(TCNQ): Solution Routes to Two Distinct Polymorphs and Their Relationship to Crystalline Films That Display Bistable Switching Behavior

Robert A. Heintz、Hanhua Zhao、Xiang Ouyang 等 6 位作者1998-12-16OpenAlex

Syntheses and characterization of two polymorphs of Cu(TCNQ) have been carried out and the results correlated to films of the materials. Reactions of CuI with TCNQ or [Cu(CH 3 CN) 4 ][BF 4 ] with TCNQ - lead to blue-purple needles of Cu(TCNQ) phase I ( 1 ). A slurry of this kinetic product in CH 3 CN yields a second c…

Production of Intermetallic Powders by the Reduction Diffusion Process

Paulo F. Nogueira、Flávio Beneduce Neto1998-12-15Materials science forum

The reduction-diffusion process was developed for the production of rare earth - transition metal intermetallics for magnetic purposes. The process consists in the formation of the intermetallic through the diffusion of the rare earth formed by the reduction of its oxide with metallic calcium and the transition metal.…

Fitoplancton del Lago Zempoala

Judith García Rodríguez、Rosaluz Tavera1998-12-15Botanical Sciences

The phytoplankton of lake Zempoala was studied from April 1996 to July 1997. The taxonomy, ecology and geographical distribution of species show that their presence is more common in temperate than tropical areas. Seasonal variations in patching, density and dominant species of the phytoplankton are corresponding with…

A New Refinement of α-Sr2P2O7

J. Barbier、J.-P. Echard1998-12-15Acta Crystallographica Section C Crystal Structure Communications

The crystal structure of α-Sr2P2O7, distrontium diphosphate, has been refined by X-ray diffraction using single crystals grown from a SrLiPO4-P2O5 melt cooled between 1323 and 1073 K. The fully anisotropic refinement confirms the centrosymmetric Pnma space group, but also reveals a strong anisotropy along the b direct…

The potentialities of polarization microscopy has been greatly increased by using specific stains for selective enhancement of the optical anisotropy of a macromolecular constituent of cells and tissues. Such stainings have proved to be especially useful in exploring the spatial orientation pattern of the extracellula…

In situ scanning tunneling microscopy measurements of Pd single-crystal domains during hydrogen charging/discharging cycles in 0.25 M KOH at 298 K allowed us to follow deformations produced by the Pd ⇔ β(H−Pd) phase transition in real time. The stress produced by this transition leads to elastic deformations involving…

Peptide nanotubes: An inert environment

Radi A. Jishi、N. C. Braier、C. T. White 等 4 位作者1998-12-15Physical review. B, Condensed matter

First-principles calculations of the band structure of peptide nanotubes are presented. It is shown that these nanotubes are insulators with wide band gaps, and that they act as an inert vessel where foreign atoms could be incorporated; hardly any interaction takes place between the tube wall and guest atoms.

Particle shape reconstruction by small-angle scattering: Integration of group theory and maximum entropy to multipole expansion method

Francesco Spinozzi、F. Carsughi、Paolo Mariani1998-12-15The Journal of Chemical Physics

The reconstruction of the shape of biological macromolecules in solution from small-angle scattering data is an important task for understanding the structure-function relationship. In the last few decades, the multipole expansion method was used to attack this problem. Here we present an improvement of the existing t…
