We present heterodyne detected transient grating (HD-TG) measurements on 1D surface corrugated Phononic Crystal (PC) with characteristic band edge wave vector of $π/5$ $μ$m$^{-1}$. This experimental investigation enables both the direct band diagram characterization of surface waves and a direct measurement of the gro…

A new core size protected completely by an aromatic thiol, Au(36)(SPh)(23), is synthesized and characterized by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry and UV-visible spectroscopy. The synthesis involving core size changes is studied by MS, and the complete ligand coverage by aromatic thiol group is shown by NMR.

The combination of a dual-scale (nano and micro) roughness with an inherent low-surface energy coating material is an essential factor for the development of superhydrophobic surfaces. Ultrashort pulse laser (USPL) machining/structuring is a promising technique for obtaining the dual-scale roughness. Sheets of stainle…

Two poly(pyrene- co -phenyleneethynylene)s of different compositions (PyPE-1 and PyPE-2) were synthesized and characterized. The two polymers had been casted, separately, onto glass plate surfaces to fabricate films (film 1, film 2) for sensing performance studies. It has been demonstrated that the fluorescence emissi…

Photoconductivity is studied in individual ZnO nanowires. Under ultraviolet (UV) illumination, the induced photocurrents are observed to persist both in air and in vacuum. Their dependence on UV intensity in air is explained by means of photoinduced surface depletion depth decrease caused by oxygen desorption induced…

Amplified by plasomonic nanostructured metals, Raman intensity of organic molecules and biomolecules can be dramatically improved, particularly at "hot spots" where intense electromagnetic fields are produced in the vicinity of narrow nanogaps between metallic nanostructures. Therefore, developing new substrates with…

Graphene-based photodetectors are promising new devices for high-speed optoelectronic applications. However, despite recent efforts it is not clear what determines the ultimate speed limit of these devices. Here, we present measurements of the intrinsic response time of metal-graphene-metal photodetectors with monolay…

We compare the atomic dynamics of the glass to that of the relevant crystal. In the spectra of inelastic scattering, the boson peak of the glass appears higher than the transverse acoustic (TA) singularity of the crystal. However, the density of states shows that they have the same number of states. Increasing pressur…
