The corrosion behavior and mechanism of matrix resins for FRP in aqueous solutions were investigated, comparing these with the corrosion of metals. Three forms of corrosion were found, namely surface reaction type, corrosion layer forming type and penetration type. In surface reaction type corrosion, which was recogni…

A modified Friedel–Crafts synthesis has been used to make a variety of aromatic ether–ketone–‘X’(EKX) polymers. The ‘X’ groups incorporated were: imide, amide, sulphone, ester, azo, quinoxaline, aliphatic, fluoroaliphatic and fluoroaromatic. Some properties of these EKX polymers are reported and discussed.

A theory is presented for supersolidus liquid phase sintering. It is assumed that densification is by a viscous flow process involving the formation of liquid films along the interfaces in polycrystalline, prealloyed particles. The rigidity of the particle is determined by the percolation threshold where structural in…

Hot deformation of 7075 aluminum alloy was studied in compression in the temperature range of 723 to 803 K and at constant true strain rates from 5.4×10−6 to 0.8 s−1. The flow characteristics were classified into three types and analyzed in each region of testing conditions, as follows; L, M, and H. In region H where…

The PALLAS (discrete ordinates-integral transport) code was improved to include secondary sources, such as bremsstrahlung and fluorescence, to assure accurate and reliable results. The point buildup factors for high-Z materials were calculated with this code in the energy range of 0.015~15 MeV up to 40 mean free paths…

The in-reactor oxidation of zirconium alloys, the structural material in almost all water-cooled and water-moderated reactors, can be life-limiting. In September 1989 the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), arranged a workshop on zirconium-alloy corrosion…
