First-principles study of the elasticity, piezoelectricity, and vibrational modes inLiGaO2compared with ZnO and GaN

Adisak Boonchun、Walter R. L. Lambrecht2010-06-23Physical Review B

The lattice-dynamical properties of ${\text{LiGaO}}_{2}$ have been studied by means of first-principles density-functional calculations using the pseudopotential linear-response approach in the local-density approximation. For comparison, similar calculations are performed for the related materials ZnO and GaN. The qu…

Pyruvate Formate-lyase, Evidence for an Open Conformation Favored in the Presence of Its Activating Enzyme

Ying-Zhi Peng、Susan E. Veneziano、Gregory D. Gillispie 等 4 位作者2010-06-23Journal of Biological Chemistry

Pyruvate formate-lyase-activating enzyme (PFL-AE) activates pyruvate formate-lyase (PFL) by generating a catalytically essential radical on Gly-734 of PFL. Crystal structures of unactivated PFL reveal that Gly-734 is buried 8 A from the surface of the protein in what we refer to here as the closed conformation of PFL.…

Quasiparticle Interference in the Spin-Density Wave Phase of Iron-Based Superconductors

Johannes Knolle、Ilya Eremin、Alireza Akbari 等 4 位作者2010-06-23Physical Review Letters

We propose an explanation for the electronic nematic state observed recently in parent iron-based superconductors [T.-M. Chuang, Science 327, 181 (2010)10.1126/science.1181083]. We argue that the quasi-one-dimensional nanostructure identified in the quasiparticle interference (QPI) is a consequence of the interplay of…

Human haematopoietic prostaglandin D synthase (H-PGDS; EC 5.3.99.2) produces prostaglandin D(2), an allergic and inflammatory mediator, in mast cells and Th2 cells. H-PGDS has been crystallized with novel inhibitors with half-maximal inhibitory concentrations (IC(50)) in the low nanomolar range by the counter-diffusio…

Unexplored Thermal Transformation Behavior of Two‐Dimensionally Bound Gadolinium Hydroxide Layers: Fabrication of Oriented Crystalline Films of Gadolinium Oxychloride Nanosheets Suitable for the Multicolor Luminescence with Color Tunability

Young‐su Yoon、Song‐Ho Byeon、In Su Lee2010-06-23Advanced Materials

Annealing multilayers of gadolinium hydroxide lead to the growth of gadolinium oxychloride crystallites film through a two-dimensionally confined process. The employment of confined crystallization process create a multilayer film composed of mixed crystallites each doped with different activator ions, such as Eu3+ an…

Development of Infrared Detectors Using Single Carbon-Nanotube-Based Field-Effect Transistors

Hongzhi Chen、Ning Xi、King Wai Chiu Lai 等 5 位作者2010-06-23IEEE Transactions on Nanotechnology

Carbon nanotube is a promising material to fabricate high-performance nanoscale-optoelectronic devices owing to its unique 1-D structure. In particular, different types of carbon-nanotube-infrared detectors have been developed. However, most previous reported carbon-nanotube-IR detectors showed poor device characteris…

Delay-Bandwidth and Delay-Loss Limitations for Cloaking of Large Objects

Hila Hashemi、Baile Zhang、John D. Joannopoulos 等 4 位作者2010-06-23Physical Review Letters

We show that the difficulty of cloaking is fundamentally limited by delay-loss and delay-bandwidth limitations that worsen as the size of the object to be cloaked increases relative to the wavelength, using a simple model of ground-plane cloaking. These limitations must be considered when scaling experimental cloaking…

On the nature of near-IR emitting Bi centres in glass

Evgenii M Dianov2010-06-23Quantum Electronics

Based on analysis of the structure and optical properties of Tl, Pb and Bi centres in crystals and comparison of their spectra with the near-IR luminescence spectra of bismuth-doped glasses, a model is proposed for the near-IR emitting bismuth centres in glass. Experimental evidence is presented in support of the mode…

Facile Synthesis of Five‐fold Twinned, Starfish‐like Rhodium Nanocrystals by Eliminating Oxidative Etching with a Chloride‐Free Precursor

Jirong Sun、Xiaohu Xia、Weiyang Li 等 7 位作者2010-06-23Angewandte Chemie International Edition

Five-fold twinned, starfish-like Rh nanocrystals consisting of five arms (see TEM) have been synthesized in high yields with the use of [{(CF3COO)2Rh}2] as a precursor to completely eliminate oxidative etching from this system. The as-prepared Rh nanocrystals were shown with great performance as a substrate for SERS.
