A Photochromic Dithienylethene That Turns Yellow by UV Irradiation

Kingo Uchida、Masahiro Irie1995-11-01Chemistry Letters

Abstract 1,2-Bis(3,5-dimethyl-2-thienyl)perfluorocyclopentene which shows a reversible color change from colorless to yellow by UV irradiation was synthesized. The color of the photogenerated closed-ring forms was dependent on the substitution position of the thiophene rings to the perfluorocyclopentene moiety.

The active migration of Drosophila primordial germ cells

Mariusz K. Jaglarz、Kenneth R. Howard1995-11-01Development

We describe our analysis of primordial germ cell migration in Drosophila wild-type and mutant embryos using high resolution microscopy and primary culture in vitro. During migratory events the germ cells form transient interactions with each other and surrounding somatic cells. Both in vivo and in vitro they extend ps…

Structure of crystalline and paracrystalline condensed matter

R. Hosemann、A.M. Hindeleh1995-11-01Journal of Macromolecular Science Part B

Abstract The experience of microparacrystals, in intermediate stages between “perfect crystalline” and “amorphous structures,” and as “building bricks” in condensed matter, has become accepted as a basic physical concept. Their existence was proven by optical and x-ray diffraction studies. A review and summary of the…

Dynamics of liquid‐liquid mixing: A 2‐zone model

Jos M. H. Janssen、H.E.H. Meijer1995-11-01Polymer Engineering and Science

Abstract The development of multiphase liquid‐liquid morphologies during mixing at small Reynolds numbers has been modeled. The mixing process is divided into (i) stretching of dispersed drops. (ii) breakup of the liquid threads formed, and (iii) coalescence of the final droplets upon collision. Rules and criteria of…

Adhesion and spreading of human skin fibroblasts on physicochemically characterized gradient surfaces

T. G. Ruardy、J. M. Schakenraad、H. C. van der Mei 等 4 位作者1995-11-01Journal of Biomedical Materials Research

In this study, adhesion and spreading of human skin fibroblasts on gradient surfaces of dichlorodimethylsilane (DDS) coupled to glass was investigated. Gradient surfaces were prepared by the diffusion technique and characterized by the Wilhelmy plate technique and characterized by the Wilhelmy plate technique for thei…

Mechanical stabilisation of bainite

P.H. Shipway、H. K. D. H. Bhadeshia1995-11-01Materials Science and Technology

Compression experiments in which plastically deformed austenite is allowed to transform to bainite have revealed that bainite, like martensite, is susceptible to mechanical stabilisation. The overall transformation kinetics becomes slower and the maximum attainable fraction of bainite decreases in deformed austenite.…

Structure and energetics of antiferroelectricPbZrO3

David J. Singh1995-11-01Physical review. B, Condensed matter

Structural instabilities and electronic properties of ${\mathrm{PrZrO}}_{3}$ are investigated using local-density calculations. Substantial hybridization is found in the electronic band structure, both between O 2p and Zr 4d states and between O 2p and Pb s and p states. A very strong \ensuremath{\Gamma} point phonon…

Dopants in Flame Synthesis of Titania

Srinivas Vemury、Sotiris E. Pratsinis1995-11-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

The effect of dopants on the characteristics of titania particles made by oxidation of TiCl 4 in a laminar diffusion flame reactor is presented. Introduction of dopant SiCl 4 inhibits the transformation of anatase to rutile, due to the formation of interstitian solid solution of SiO 2 and TiO 2 . Silica decreases the…

Synthesis and Crystal Structures of γ-Type Octamolybdates Coordinated by Chiral Lysines

Miyao Inoue、Toshihiro Yamase1995-11-01Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan

Abstract The acidification of aqueous solutions containing Na2MoO4·2H2O in the presence of a chiral lysine ligand (d- and l-form) gives octamolybdates coordinating two lysine ligands, Na2[Mo8O26(d-lysH2)2]·8H2O (Mo8-d) and Na2[Mo8O26(l-lysH2)2]·8H2O (Mo8-l) (where lysH2 is 2,6-diammoniohexanoato), respectively. These…

Oxygen, iron, carbon, and superoxide control of the fumarase fumA and fumC genes of Escherichia coli: role of the arcA, fnr, and soxR gene products

S J Park、Robert P. Gunsalus1995-11-01Journal of Bacteriology

The tricarboxylic acid cycle enzyme fumarase catalyzes the interconversion of fumarate to L-malate. Escherichia coli contains three biochemically distinct fumarases. While the fumA and fumB genes encode heat-labile, iron-containing fumarases, the fumC gene product is a heat-stable fumarase which does not require iron…
