The authors developed a seed-mediated method by GeO2 nano-particles (NPs) for growing crystal perovskite films. Poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene):poly(4-styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS)-GeO2 composite films can act as an efficient underlayer for the growth of crystal perovskite films. GeO2 NPs are regarded as the growing…

The possibility of forming a microprofile in diffractive optical elements by thermal oxidation of thin molybdenum films is analyzed. It is shown that the gain in the thickness of a starting film in the thermal oxidation process may reach a threefold value, with the optical quality of the surface preserved.

AlN substrate is widely used along with silicone gel to encapsulate power electronic circuits. It is known that the weakness of the insulation system is surface discharges propagating at the gel-substrate interface. In this research, the nature of surface discharges in gel, on various substrates was investigated. The…

Abstract Shark skin surfaces of fast‐swimming sharks are characterized as non‐smooth because of the presence of dermal denticles or riblet structures and exhibit an excellent drag‐reduction effect. A review of the surface morphology, structure and mechanical behaviors of shark skin is given. Investigations into the mi…

Thermal information processing is attracting much interest as an analog of electronic computing. We experimentally demonstrated a radiative thermal memory utilizing a phase change material. The hysteretic metal-insulator transition of vanadium dioxide (VO2) allows us to obtain a multilevel memory. We developed a Preis…

Abstract Individual impurity atoms in silicon can make superb individual qubits, but it remains an immense challenge to build a multi-qubit processor: there is a basic conflict between nanometre separation desired for qubit–qubit interactions and the much larger scales that would enable control and addressing in a man…

The novel ambipolar hosts of o-CbzBz and o-DiCbzBz contain carbazole and benzimidazole through an ortho-connection. The orthogonal conformations cause the triplet state to be confined at the carbazole units to secure efficient energy transfer. Surfaces of ice are covered with thin liquid water layers, called quasi-liquid layers (QLLs), even below their melting point (0 °C), which govern a wide variety of phenomena in nature. We recently found that two types of QLL phases appear that exhibit different morphologies (droplets and thin layers) [Sazaki G. et al.…

BACKGROUND: Several studies have suggested potential links of phthalates to obesity in children and adults. Limited evidence, however, has been available for the relations between diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) and obesity-related markers or body mass change in early life. METHODS: 128 healthy pregnant women were recru…
