Rotational elastic waves in a cylindrical waveguide with wedge dislocation

M O Katanaev2016-01-18Journal of Physics A Mathematical and Theoretical

We describe the propagation of rotational elastic waves in a cylindrical waveguide with wedge dislocation in the framework of geometric theory of defects. The defect changes the dispersion relation. For positive deficit angles, it increases the phase velocity and decreases the group velocity of the wave.

Counterintuitive strain distribution in axial (In,Ga)N/GaN nanowires

Thilo Krause、M. Hanke、O. Brandt 等 4 位作者2016-01-18Applied Physics Letters

We study the three-dimensional deformation field induced by an axial (In,Ga)N segment in a GaN nanowire. Using the finite element method within the framework of linear elasticity theory, we study the dependence of the strain field on the ratio of segment length and nanowire radius. Contrary to intuition, the out-of-pl…

Magnetoelectric effect and phase transitions in CuO in external magnetic fields

Zhaosheng Wang、N. Qureshi、S. Yasin 等 11 位作者2016-01-18Nature Communications

Apart from being so far the only known binary multiferroic compound, CuO has a much higher transition temperature into the multiferroic state, 230 K, than any other known material in which the electric polarization is induced by spontaneous magnetic order, typically lower than 100 K. Although the magnetically induced…

Interfacial free energy of the structure II cyclopentane hydrate in cyclopentane liquid from the capillary wave fluctuation method

Bjorn Steen Saethre2016-01-18arXiv

The interfacial stiffness of structure II cyclopentane hydrate in cyclopentane liquid has been measured by the Capillary Wave Fluctuation (CWF) method for an equilibrated system with temperature of T=280K and pressure of P~20bar, close to the upper (L$_w$-Hyd-Vap-L$_{HC}$) Quadruple-point, on the boundary of the hydra…

Low temperature phase diagram of hydrogen at pressures up to 380 GPa. A possible metallic phase at 360 GPa and 200 K

M. I. Eremets、I. A. Troyan、A. P. Drozdov2016-01-18arXiv

Two new phases of hydrogen have been discovered at room temperature in Ref.1: phase IV above 220 GPa and phase V above ~270 GPa. In the present work we have found a new phase VI at P~360 GPa and T<200 K. This phase is likely metallic as follows from the featureless Raman spectra, a strong drop in resistance, and absen…

One Side-Graphene Hydrogenation (Graphone): Substrate Effects

Cristiano Francisco Woellner、Pedro Alves Da Silva Autreto、Douglas S. Galvao2016-01-18arXiv

Recent studies on graphene hydrogenation processes showed that hydrogenation occurs via island growing domains, however how the substrate can affect the hydrogenation dynamics and/or pattern formation has not been yet properly investigated. In this work we have addressed these issues through fully atomistic reactive m…

Electromagnons, magnons, and phonons in Eu$_{1-x}$Ho$_x$MnO$_3$

Zhenyu Chen、M. Schmidt、Zhe Wang 等 8 位作者2016-01-18arXiv

Here we present a detailed study of the THz and FIR response of the mixed perovskite manganite system Eu$_{1-x}$Ho$_x$MnO$_3$ for holmium concentrations x = 0.1 and 0.3. We compare the magnetic excitations of the four different magnetically ordered phases (A-type antiferromagnetic, sinusoidally modulated collinear, he…

Direct observation of the lattice dynamics of transition metals using ultrafast electron diffraction

A. Nakamura、T. Shimojima、M. Nakano 等 5 位作者2016-01-18arXiv

We report the lattice dynamics of transition metal thin films by using the ultrafast electron diffraction. We observe a suppression of the diffraction intensity in a few picosecond after the photoexcitation, which is directly interpreted as the lattice heating via the electron-phonon interaction. The electron-phonon c…

Investigation of ITO based liquid sensor for ammonia hydroxide detection

Seok-hwan Lee、Jung-Yeul Jung、Moonjin Lee 等 4 位作者2016-01-18arXiv

We proposed an Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) sensor for detecting the NH4OH in seawater and carried out a series of experiments to investigate the feasibility of it as a hazardous and noxious substance (HNS) sensor. The ITO layer revealed a distinct resistance change (δR) which is linearly correlated with the NH4OH concentra…

Qiang Sun、Liangliang Cai、Shiyong Wang 等 11 位作者2016-01-18Journal of the American Chemical Society

Because of stability issues, carbyne, a one-dimensional chain of carbon atoms, has been much less investigated than other recent carbon allotropes such as graphene. Beyond that, metalation of such a linear carbon nanostructure with regularly distributed metal atoms is even more challenging. Here we report a successful…

Seiji Yamazoe、Shinjiro Takano、Wataru Kurashige 等 7 位作者2016-01-18Nature Communications

Unique thermal properties of metal clusters are believed to originate from the hierarchy of the bonding. However, an atomic-level understanding of how the bond stiffnesses are affected by the atomic packing of a metal cluster and the interfacial structure with the surrounding environment has not been attained to date.…
