Cavity (void) formation and swelling in non-fissile materials during neutron irradiation and charged particle bombardments are reviewed. Helium is the most important inert gas and is primarily active as a cavity nucleant. It also enhances formation of dislocation structure. Preimplantation of helium overstimulates cav…

The ferroelectric properties of (Na0,5Bi0,5TiO3) single crystals are studied. It is found that some physical characteristics possess a large temperature hysteresis in the temperature range 200 – 300°C. The nature of that hysteresis is discussed.

The phase diagram of the Bi2O3-Er2O3 system was investigated. A monophasic f c c structure was stabilized for samples containing 17.5–45.5 mol% Er2O3. Above and below this concentration range polyphasic regions appear. The f c c phase showed high oxygen ion conduction. The ionic transference number is equal to one for…

The crystal structure of the title compounds [Cu(tren)(NH3)][ClO4]2(1) and K[Cu(NH3)5][PF6]3(2) have been determined by X-ray diffraction methods using three-dimensional diffractometer data; the structures were solved by heavy-atom techniques and successive Fourier synthesis. Compound (1) crystallises in a cubic unit…

Abstract The influence of water content on the gelatinization of wheat starch was examined by differential scanning calorimetry. Three endothermic transitions were observed when starch was heated to 140 °C with 35 to 80% (w/w) water. The temperature of the second and third endotherms and the enthalpies of the first an…

The magnetic properties of the tetrameric oxygen-bridged copper (II) complexes [{CuX(OCH2CH2NR2)}4](1)(R = Me, X = NCO; R =Prn, X = NCO; and R = Bun, X = NCO or NCS) have been determined in the temperature range 3.4–300 K. The cubane-type complexes exhibit magnetic interactions between the single copper (II) ions, whi…

A 2D band structure model is proposed to describe electronic states in the lowest stages (n = 1, 2) of GAC. The tight binding method is applied taking into account intra and interlayer nearest neighbour interactions. From the energies and wavefunctions of the π valence and conduction bands, the frequency dependence of…

A quantitative procedure for indirectly locating hydride ligands bound to transition metals in cluster compounds is described. The method predicts hydride positions which can be and are compared with those determined by neutron (and X-ray) diffraction. Examples are presented of its use in determining hydride sites in…

Abstract After defining Fickian diffusion in rubbery polymers an overview of transport behavior in polymers is presented. Diffusion and sorption below the glass transition are discussed, followed by a review and classification of the various theoretical models which have been proposed to account for these phenomena. A…

A method, called "protein blotting," for the detection of DNA-binding proteins is described. Proteins are separated on an SDA-polyacrylamide gel. The gel is sandwiched between 2 nitrocellulose filters and the proteins allowed to diffuse out of the gel and onto the filters. The proteins are tightly bound to each filter…
