Scattering by a periodically corrugated dielectric layer with non-identical faces

G. Granet、Jean-Píerre Plumey、J. Chandezon1995-01-01Pure and Applied Optics Journal of the European Optical Society Part A

A new approach is proposed for analysis of scattering by a periodically corrugated dielectric layer with non-identical faces. The method combines the simultaneous use of several different coordinate systems and the generalized S-matrix formalism. The program has been tested by comparisons with results given by the int…

Influence of Powder Characteristics on Sintering Process and Thermal Conductivity of Aluminum Nitride Ceramics

Koji Watari、Manuel E. Brito、Masaki Yasuoka 等 5 位作者1995-01-01Journal of the Ceramic Society of Japan

The sinterability and thermal conductivity of Y2O3 doped AlN powders with diverse specific surface areas (42-2.9m2g-1) and oxygen contents (0.2-2mass%) were evaluated. It was found that sintering of fine powders induces the densification at lower processing temperatures, and for raw AlN powders with specific surface a…

The changes in fibre structure caused by the realignment of the microfibrils of fibre and yarn samples treated with swelling agents, such as NaOH, LiOH, ZnCl2, and butyltrimethyl ammonium hydroxide (BTMAH), both under tension and slack, were studied by light and electron microscopy. The structural effects of treatment…

Metal-induced conformational changes in calix[n]arenes can change the exchange interaction between N–O· radicals

Koji Araki、Ryoji Nakamura、Hideyuki Otsuka 等 4 位作者1995-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Chemical Communications

Calix[n]aryl esters 2n(n= 4 and 6) bearing two stable N–O·radicals on the lower rim are synthesized: in 26 the exchange interaction (El) changes in response to a metal-induced 1,2,3-alternate-to-cone conformational change but in 24 the metal-induced rotation of the carbonyl groups is not enough to change the El.

Facile aerial oxidation of a porphyrin. Part 18. N‐alkylation of the oxidised product derived from Meso‐tetrakis(3,5‐di‐t‐butyl‐4‐hydroxyphenyl)porphyrin

Lionel R. Milgrom、Jonathan P. Hill、Gökhan Yahioglu1995-01-01Journal of Heterocyclic Chemistry

Abstract In basic solutions, the oxidised porphyrin 2 readily undergoes macrocyclic N ‐alkylation, with up to four bulky alkyl groups, including decyl and substituted benzyl moieties, being accomodated: an argument is presented to show that N ‐di‐alkylation occurs on opposite nitrogen atoms, on the same side of the ma…

NH 3 formation during the reduction of nitrogen monoxide by propane on H–Cu–ZSM-5 in excess oxygen

F. Poignant、J. Saussey、Jean‐Claude Lavalley 等 4 位作者1995-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Chemical Communications

Substitution of a NO + C3H8+ He flow by O2+ He at 623 K leads to the appearance on a H–Cu–ZSM-5 catalyst of three IR bands at 3366, 3290 and 3192 cm–1 assigned to NH3 species as confirmed by NH3 adsorption showing that ammonia is formed during the SCR of NO by propane in excess oxygen, suggesting that it could play th…

Hydrothermal synthesis of diamond from diamond-seeded β-SiC powder

Yury Gogotsi、Klaus G. Nickel、Per Kofstad1995-01-01Journal of Materials Chemistry

Mixtures of SiC powder with diamond seeds were subjected to hydrothermal treatment at 700–750 °C under pressures of 100–500 MPa. The results of this study demonstrate that well crystallised diamond is formed after hydrothermal treatment of SiC when diamond seeds are present.

Materials Synthesis Via Solid-State Metathesis Reactions

Randolph E. Treece、Edward G. Gillan、Richard B. Kaner1995-01-01Comments on Inorganic Chemistry

The synthesis of solid-state materials generally requires high temperatures and long reaction times in order to overcome diffusion barriers and achieve homogeneous products. Recently chemical routes using reactive precursors have allowed for greater control over product characteristics including stoichiometry and crys…

The deterioration of the mechanical properties of composite resins was examined. The bending strength and the stress relaxation rate for sixteen experimental composite resins with different filler shapes, particle sizes and filler contents immersed in distilled water for 0-60 days were measured. The bending strength o…

Cubic Boron Nitride (c-BN) single-crystals have been synthesized under high pressure and high temperature conditions (HP - HT) using hexagonal Boron Nitride (h-BN) precursors. We have performed a study of both phases with electron (EELS) and X-ray (XAS) spectroscopy that are compared. The c-BN ELNES spectra at B-K and…

Surface chemistry of polar oxide surfaces: formic acid on NiO (111)

Chen Xu、D. Wayne Goodman1995-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Faraday Transactions

The adsorption and reaction of formic acid (HCO2H) on the NiO(111)/Mo(110) and MgO(111)/Mo(110) surfaces have been studied using temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) and high-resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy (HREELS). The adsorption of formic acid on the NiO(111) surface is dissociative even at 100 K, i…
