Hardening of Low-Alloyed Gold

Jörg Fischer‐Bühner2005-09-01Gold bulletin

The development of strengthened high carat Au alloys for jewellery applications is an interesting but challenging task, with significant potential for further development of new age-hardenable alloys. The paper first presents an overview on the possibilities and limitations to harden 22ct Au by conventional means, i.e…

Large-scale, unidirectional convection during phase separation of a density-matched liquid mixture

Filomena Califano、Roberto Mauri、Reuel Shinnar2005-09-01Physics of Fluids

Complete phase segregation may occur on a 10cm scale even in the absence of buoyancy due to unidirectional, large-scale rapid bulk flow. Using a hexadecane-acetone nearly density-matched liquid mixture in a 20-cm-long condenser tube with a 1cm diameter, we observed the rapid axial migration of the acetone-rich drops t…

Marco Malvaldi、Giuseppe Allegra、Francesco Ciardelli 等 4 位作者2005-09-01The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

Molecular dynamics simulation has been used to study the equilibrium properties of a generic coarse-grained polymer melt with associating terminal groups, confined in a narrow slit by two atomically smooth walls. Simulations were carried out as a function of wall separation and attracting strength as well as polymer e…

A new series of siloxane liquid crystalline dimers exhibiting the antiferroelectric phase

N. Olsson、Bertil Helgée、Gunnar B. J. Andersson 等 4 位作者2005-09-01Liquid Crystals

In this paper, we report the study of a new series of symmetric chiral liquid crystalline siloxane dimers, their related monomers, and two of those monomers with heptamethyltrisiloxane attached. All the dimers coupled with a trisiloxane show the SmCA phase, which in several cases has a large tilt angle greater than 40…

Photochemical Degradation Study of Polyurethanes as Relic Protection Materials by FTIR‐ATR

Liqin Wang、Guozheng Liang、Gaochao Dang 等 6 位作者2005-09-01Chinese Journal of Chemistry

Abstract Polyurethanes are one kind of relic protection materials commonly used. During artificial photo‐ageing, three polyurethanes, HDI‐based polyurethane, MDI‐based polyurethane and TDI‐based polyurethane, have been considered to undergo UV radiation. Photochemical degradation of the polyurethanes has been monitore…

Assessment of Soil Potassium Sufficiency as Related to Quantity‐Intensity in Montmorillonitic Soils

Frank V. Schindler、Howard J. Woodard、James J. Doolittle2005-09-01Communications in Soil Science and Plant Analysis

No studies have been conducted to evaluate the potassium (K) quantity‐intensity (Q/I) relationships that exist in eastern South Dakota soils and how that may affect K fertility interpretations. The objectives of this study were to i) evaluate the K status of smectite‐dominant soils through quantity‐intensity relations…

Phase properties and interaction force of acoustically interacting bubbles: A complementary study of the transition frequency

Masato Ida2005-09-01Physics of Fluids

The transition frequencies of multibubble systems in a sound field are reexamined to confirm their existence and further clarify their physical properties. We have recently suggested that a gas bubble interacting with a neighboring bubble in a sound field has up to three transition frequencies which invert the pulsati…

The synthesis and physical properties of bent‐shaped molecules with ester linkages and methoxy substitution on a non‐central ring are presented. Terminal chains of most mesogens contain a group with double bond, which promotes polymerization. In all the compounds studied a B2 phase just below the isotropic phase has b…

Syntheses of boronic-acid-appended metalloporphyrins as potential colorimetric sensors for sugars and carbohydrates

Chen Zhang、Kenneth S. Suslick2005-09-01Journal of Porphyrins and Phthalocyanines

Boronic-acid-based dyes have been widely studied in the past decade as potential sensors for sugars and carbohydrates, owing to the strong interaction of boronic acid and diols. In this work, two boronic-acid-appended metalloporphyrins were synthesized by new routes and tested as potential sugar and carbohydrate senso…

Yuki Sawai、Tamotsu Nagumo、Kensuke Toyoda2005-09-01Phycologia

Abstract Three extant species of the genus Paralia (Bacillariophyceae) occur along the coast of Japan, two of them are new species. Observations of living populations suggested that significant characters for separating Paralia species are (1) structure of the mantle of the separation valve; (2) shape of the linking s…

Radiation-induced bond switching in mixed Ge–As sulphide glasses

R. Golovchak、O. Shpotyuk2005-09-01The Philosophical Magazine A Journal of Theoretical Experimental and Applied Physics

A mechanism for γ-ray-induced changes in the optical properties of ternary Ge–As sulphide glasses is analysed at the microstructural level. It is shown, using IR FFT spectroscopy, that these changes are associated with chemical bond switching accompanied by coordination topological defect formation.

Bin Zhao、Hoon Kim、Yukihiro Shimogaki2005-09-01Japanese Journal of Applied Physics

Doping Cu with some elements has been proved to be a promising method to improve the reliability of Cu interconnects.
