We report measurements of the magnetic and electrical properties of sintered manganites of the form . We find that the peak in the conductivity moves rapidly to lower temperatures as the chromium content is increased and is completely absent for x > 0.2. The Curie temperature, as determined by magnetization measuremen…

Infrared emission spectroscopic study of the dehydroxylation of synthetic Mg/Al and Mg/Zn/Al-hydrotalcites

J. Theo Kloprogge、Ray L. Frost1999-01-01Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics

The thermal behaviour of synthetic hydrotalcites, Mg6Al2(OH)16CO3·nH2O and Mg4Zn2Al2(OH)16CO3·nH2O, was studied by thermogravimetric analysis and infrared emission spectroscopy. The Mg/Al-hydrotalcite shows a loss of 7.0% m/m physically adsorbed water up to 70°C. Between 70 and 230°C 16.5% m/m is lost due to decarboni…

Density functional theory for hard spherocylinders: phase transitions in the bulk and in the presence of external fields

Hartmut Graf、Hartmut Löwen1999-01-01Journal of Physics Condensed Matter

The phase behaviour of hard spherocylinders is calculated using the classical density functional theory of freezing. In particular, we construct a modified weighted-density approximation and calculate the bulk phase diagram. While the stability regime of the isotropic, nematic and smectic-A phases is in reasonable agr…

Core level photoelectron spectroscopy for polymer and catalyst characterisation

A. P. Pijpers、Robert J. Meier1999-01-01Chemical Society Reviews

Electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis or ESCA is a powerful tool for the characterisation of chemical species at surfaces. ESCA can therefore play a major role in the study of heterogeneous catalysts and catalytic processes. In the polymer field, more recently an increase in sensitivity combined with high spectr…
