The effects of potential and p H on the rate of the hydrogen evolution reaction on zone‐refined titanium have been determined in acidic sulfate and chloride media over the p H range of 0 to 4.0. In all cases, the cathodic Tafel slope is equal to −120 m.V, i.e. , ( ∂ E / ∂ log | i H , ∝ | ) pH = − 2 ( 2.303 RT / F ) .…

Abstract The response of glass‐forming systems to isobaric three‐step thermal cycles involving cooling, isothermal annealing, and subsequent reheating has been investigated comprehensively using numerous combinations of the experimental and material parameters. The latter include the retardation spectrum or response f…

The results of optical rotatory dispersion (ORD) measurements in the third cholesteric blue phase (BP III) are reported for both pure compounds and mixtures. The spectra possess weak, broad, anomalous regions at short wavelength, the sign and wavelength dependence of which follows the sense and pitch of the cholesteri…

Data are presented on the electronic conductivity and molten alkali carbonate stability (Li:K binary of 62:38 mole ratio) of various materials at 923 K under a 30% atmosphere. Of the examined materials, only and satisfied both criteria sufficiently for acceptable use as molten carbonate fuel cell cathode materials.

Tension-torsion tests with a computer controlled servohydraulic testing machine are reported. Yield surfaces were obtained during a load controlled path, which includes combined stress creep, as well as during a strain controlled path, which includes combined stress relaxation. These surfaces and their relation to the…

The optical and near infrared absorption of dilute Tm3+ and Yb3+ impurities in YPO4 and LuPO4 single crystals have been measured at liquid helium and nitrogen temperatures. For Tm3+, the spectral region from 5 000 to 38 000 cm−1 was examined and Zeeman spectra were obtained in the visible region. The observed transiti…

The stationary state of a phenomenological model of two-dimensional nucleation-controlled crystal growth is found, using an operator formalism akin to quantum field theory, and the implications for the growth of polymer crystals are briefly discussed. The method also enables a correspondence to be drawn between this p…
