One-phonon Raman scattering studies of chains of crystalline-Si nanospheres

Hideo Kohno、Takanori Iwasaki、Y. Mita 等 4 位作者2002-03-01Journal of Applied Physics

Chains of crystalline-Si nanospheres were studied by means of Raman scattering spectroscopy. We found that the one-phonon Raman scattering peak from the chains was asymmetric and broader than that from bulk Si. This phenomenon can be attributed to a phonon confinement in the silicon nanospheres. The phonon confinement…

Photoinduced surface relief formation on azopolymer films: A driving force and formed relief profile

Kimio Sumaru、Takashi Fukuda、Tatsumi Kimura 等 5 位作者2002-03-01Journal of Applied Physics

A driving force of photoinduced surface relief (PSR) formation is examined by considering the complex electric susceptibility of the absorbing medium. It is introduced into a fluid mechanics model established for the viscous fluid layer on a flat substrate. As a result, a theoretical model for PSR formation covering t…

C. Talón、F. J. Bermejo、C. Cabrillo 等 11 位作者2002-03-01Physical Review Letters

The effects of a minor chemical modification on the microscopic structure of a material in its glass and crystal phases are investigated by the concurrent use of neutron diffraction and computer simulation. Significant changes in short-, intermediate-, and long-range order are found, resulting from the change in molec…

María L. Cerrada、Rosario Benavente、Ernesto Pérez2002-03-01Macromolecular Chemistry and Physics

Several composites with short glass fiber of a copolymer of ethylene and 1-octene, synthesized with a metallocene catalyst, have been prepared, up to a fiber content of 40 wt.-%. The effect of the fiber on the crystalline structure and on the viscoelastic response are analyzed. The role of glass fiber incorporation on…

Preparation of Porous Poly(ɛ-caprolactone) Structures

Qingfeng Hou、Dirk W. Grijpma、Jan Feijén2002-03-01Macromolecular Rapid Communications

Porous poly(ε-caprolactone) structures have been prepared by leaching of compression moulded salt-containing polymer precipitates. Coagulation takes place when a PCL solution containing dispersed water-soluble salt particles is precipitated into an excess of non-solvent. Porous scaffolds are obtained after leaching of…

Strong self-phase modulation in planar chalcogenide glass waveguides

S. Spälter、Harold Y. Hwang、J. Zimmermann 等 7 位作者2002-03-01Optics Letters

Single-mode planar waveguides were fabricated from chalcogenide glass compounds with large Kerr nonlinearities. Strong self-phase modulation of subpicosecond pulses along with low linear and nonlinear absorption losses demonstrates the potential for ultrafast, low-power, all-optical processing applications.

Mechanisms for corrosion fatigue crack propagation

S. A. Shipilov2002-03-01Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures

ABSTRACT The corrosion fatigue crack growth (FCG) behaviour, the effect of applied potential on corrosion FCG rates, and the fracture surfaces were studied for high‐strength low‐alloy steels, titanium alloys, and magnesium alloys. During investigation of the effect of applied potential on corrosion FCG rates, polariza…

Hiroyuki Takei、Michael Himmelhaus、Takayuki Okamoto2002-03-01Optics Letters

A surface-adsorbed monolayer of cap-shaped gold particles upon submicrometer-sized polystyrene spheres exhibits pronounced absorption in the visible region. When the surrounding refractive index was altered by immersion in a fluid, the direction of the shift in the absorption spectrum was dependent on the incidence an…
