Thermomechanical control of electronic coupling in quantum dot solids

Jianhong Zhang、Andrey A. Lutich、Andrei S. Susha 等 9 位作者2010-06-15Journal of Applied Physics

We show that electronic coupling in quantum dot solids can be controlled thermomechanically. The amount and nature of interstitial material controls the shrinkage of the solids upon cooling and thereby the distances as well as electronic coupling between the constituting semiconductor nanocrystals. Using photoluminesc…

Wei Cai、Chunlin Fu、Jiacheng Gao 等 5 位作者2010-06-15Integrated ferroelectrics

Barium zirconate titanate (short for BZT) ceramics were prepared by sol-gel method and solid state reaction method, respectively. The BZT ceramics prepared by two methods are both single cubic perovskite phase. The average grain size of the ceramics by sol-gel method is much smaller than that of the ceramics by solid…

H. Salmah、A. Faisal2010-06-15Polymer-Plastics Technology and Engineering

The effect of waste office white paper (WOWP) loading and size on mechanical properties, morphology and thermal properties of LDPE/WOWP composites were investigated. The results showed that increasing of WOWP loading has increased tensile strength and Young's modulus but decreased elongation at break of composites. LD…

Multiple-peak structure in porous Si photoluminescence

Yan Xu、Sadao Adachi2010-06-15Journal of Applied Physics

Photoluminescence (PL) measurements have been carried out on anodic porous silicon (PSi) at temperatures between T=20 and 300 K. He–Ne laser (1.96 eV), green laser diode (2.33 eV), and He–Cd laser (3.81 eV) are used as excitation light sources. Low-temperature (T≤250 K) PL spectra show a multiple-peak structure even w…

Optical manipulation and self-assembly of nematic colloids: colloidal crystals and superstructures

Igor Muševič2010-06-15Liquid Crystals Today

Optical manipulation of colloidal particles in nematic liquid crystals is far more complex than manipulation in water-based colloids. Owing to the long-range nature of the orientational ordering, their elasticity and topological conservation laws, almost any kind of object can be trapped and manipulated in liquid crys…

Zwitterionic sulfobetaine‐modified non‐woven fabric for blood filtration

Chao Yang、Kang Sun、Jiaxin Liu 等 5 位作者2010-06-15Polymer International

Abstract Blood filtration requires a high removal ratio of leukocytes and with simultaneous high recovery ratio of platelets and other beneficial components. Problems are often encountered with blood filter materials in terms of high platelet loss. Zwitterions such as phosphorylcholine, sulfobetaine and carboxybetaine…

Design of transparent cloaks with arbitrarily inner and outer boundaries

Zhonglei Mei、Tiao Ming Niu、Jing Bai 等 4 位作者2010-06-15Journal of Applied Physics

In this paper, the efficient transformation optics method has been utilized to design and analyze two-dimensional (2D) transparent cloaks, structures that can physically protect the devices inside but do not affect their electrical performances at all. The general and explicit expressions for the material parameters o…

Sabrina Sultana、Ruhul A. Khan、Md. Shahruzzaman 等 6 位作者2010-06-15Polymer-Plastics Technology and Engineering

Gelatin films were prepared from gelatin granules in aqueous medium by casting. Tensile strength, tensile modulus, elongation at break and the glass point of the gelatin films were found to be 27 MPa, 100 MPa, 4% and 51.7°C, respectively. After irradiated with gamma radiation tensile properties were increased due to d…

G. J. Xu、Xiaobin Xu、B. H. Wu 等 5 位作者2010-06-15Journal of Applied Physics

The transport properties of a graphene multiquantum well system are investigated numerically using transfer-matrix method. There are transmission gaps for electrons and holes in the transmission spectra at tilted incidence. In the transmission gaps, a few resonant tunneling peaks appear, defined as transmission window…

Xiangyu Zhang、Dangli Gao、Lin Li2010-06-15Journal of Applied Physics

Strong blue and green visible lights are obtained in Tm3+/Ho3+-codoped LaOF tetragonal nanocrystals (NCs) through down and up fluorescence conversions when the sample is excited selectively with ultraviolet and infrared photons, respectively. The excitation spectrum by detecting at 545 nm (Ho3+:S52→I58) reveals two pe…

Pan Yang、Kyung Man Kim、Jai-Yeoul Lee 等 5 位作者2010-06-15Integrated ferroelectrics

Magnetic properties of multiferroic bi-layer BiFeO3 (BFO)/BaTiO3 (BTO) thin films were studied. It was found that the magnetization increased by the insertion of BTO buffer layer even though the interfacial stress was slightly relaxed, which indicated a coupling between the ferroelectric and ferromagnetic orders.
