Fracture Roughness and Correlation Length in the Central Force Model

Jan Øystein Haavig Bakke、Thomas Ramstad、Alex Hansen2005-07-26arXiv

We measure the roughness exponent and the correlation length exponent of a stress-weighted percolation process in the central force model in 2D. The roughness exponent is found to be zeta = 0.75 \pm 0.03 and the correlation length exponent is found to be nu = 1.7 \pm 0.3. This result supports a conjecture that the fra…

Transverse instability at a compensated interface of ferromagnetic antiferromagnetic bilayer

N. A. Usov、Ching-Ray Chang、Zung-Hang Wei2005-07-26arXiv

The analytical theory for a ferromagnetic antiferromagnetic bilayer with a compensated interface has been developed using an explicit expression for the interfacial interaction energy density. A stability of a solution describing domain walls within ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic films has been investigated. It i…

Fluorescence Modulation with Photochromic Switches

Françisco M. Raymo、Massimiliano Tomasulo2005-07-26The Journal of Physical Chemistry A

Photochromic compounds change their color under illumination. In most instances, a colorless state switches to a colored one upon ultraviolet irradiation. The photogenerated species reverts to the original one either by thermal means or upon visible irradiation. These reversible transformations are accompanied by pron…

Pavan K. Naicker、Peter T. Cummings、Hengzhong Zhang 等 4 位作者2005-07-26The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

Molecular dynamics simulations of titanium dioxide nanoparticles in the three commonly occurring phases (anatase, brookite, and rutile) are reported. The structural properties inferred by simulated X-ray diffraction patterns of the nanoparticles were investigated. The titanium-oxygen bond length as a function of size,…

Achieving transparency with plasmonic and metamaterial coatings

Andrea Alù、Nader Engheta2005-07-26arXiv

The possibility of using plasmonic and metamaterial covers to drastically reduce the total scattering cross section of spherical and cylindrical objects is discussed. While it is intuitively expected that increasing the physical size of an object may lead to an increase in its overall scattering cross section, here we…

Hydrothermal growth and photoluminescence property of textured CdWO4 scintillator films

H.M. Shang、Ying Wang、Mary Bliss 等 4 位作者2005-07-25Applied Physics Letters

Cadmium tungstate (CWO) films on glass substrate have been first prepared by hydrothermal method at temperatures ranging from 120 to 180 °C from cadmium nitrite and tungstic acid in hydrogen peroxide solution. Crack free and dense CWO films with textured structure and thickness up to 8 μm were formed at 150 and 180 °C…

We investigate the magnetic properties of two typical II-VI semiconducting nanocrystals, namely, ZnS and ZnO, doped with various concentrations of a transition metal ion, Mn. A wide range of dopant concentrations was explored without changing the size of the nanocrystal, thereby allowing us to study the concentration…
