Aligned Carbon Nanotube Film Self-Organized on a SiC Wafer

Michiko Kusunoki、Junko Shibata、Masumi Rokkaku 等 4 位作者1998-05-01Japanese Journal of Applied Physics

An aligned carbon nanotube film was fabricated on the surface of an α-SiC wafer by heating at 1700°C for 30 min. in a vacuum electric furnace due to the decomposition of SiC by selected desorption. It was found to be easy to produce a large-area carbon nanotube film on the SiC substrate. The (0002) lattice distance of…

Orientation mode selection mechanisms for sheared nematic liquid crystalline materials

Tomohiro TSUJI、Alejandro D. Rey1998-05-01Physical review. E, Statistical physics, plasmas, fluids, and related interdisciplinary topics

An extensive analysis of the flow orientation modes of sheared liquid crystalline materials is performed using a complete nonlinear nonequilibrium theory that takes into account short and long range order elasticity and viscous flow effects. It is found that there are two main orientation modes in shear flow: (i) in-p…

Molecular-dynamics study of long-lived structures in a fragile glass-forming liquid

Gregory Johnson、Andrew I. Mel’čuk、Harvey Gould 等 5 位作者1998-05-01Physical review. E, Statistical physics, plasmas, fluids, and related interdisciplinary topics

We present molecular-dynamics results for a two-component, two-dimensional Lennard-Jones supercooled liquid near the glass transition. We find that the supercooled liquid is spatially heterogeneous and that there are long-lived clusters whose size distribution satisfies a scaling relation up to a cutoff. The similarit…

Preparation of multi-arm star polymers with polylithiated carbosilane dendrimers

Nataliya G. Vasilenko、Evgenij A. Rebrov、Aziz M. Muzafarov 等 6 位作者1998-05-01Macromolecular Chemistry and Physics

Polyfunctional dendrimers are empolyed for the synthesis of multi-arm star-shaped polymers. Terminal allyl groups of a carbosilane dendrimer have been partly extended by hydrosilylation-addition of didecylmethylsilane and partly lithiated by reaction with butyllithium. Due to the peculiar structure of the dendritic po…

We present magnetic torque measurements on the quasi-two-dimensional organic superconductor $\ensuremath{\kappa}$-(BEDT-TTF)${}_{2}\mathrm{Cu}(\mathrm{NCS}{)}_{2}$ at low temperature ${T/T}_{c}\ensuremath{\simeq}0.01$. The irreversible field ${H}_{\mathrm{irr}}$ lies far below the upper critical field ${H}_{c2}$ even…

Irreversible Change of Pore Structure of MCM-41 upon Hydration at Room Temperature

Xin Zhao、Frank Audsley、Gao Qing Lu1998-05-01The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

The pore structure stability of MCM-41 materials upon hydration/dehydration was studied by XRD, 29 Si MAS NMR, and gravimetric adsorption techniques. Results demonstrated that collapses of the pore structure of MCM-41 occurred upon rehydration at room temperature due to the hydrolysis of the bare Si−O−Si(Al) bonds in…

Researchers Find Extraordinarily High Temperature Superconductivity in Bio-Inspired Nanopolymer

P. M. Grant1998-05-01Physics Today

Forty-two years ago, Johannes Georg Bednorz and Karl Alex M̈ller startled the world with their unexpected discovery of superconductivity in layered copper oxide perovskites at temperatures substantially higher than previously thought possible. The history of this breakthrough is well known, and a large number of relat…

Thermal Polymerization of Methyl Methacrylate at High Temperature

Françoise Fenouillot、J. Terrisse、T. Rimlinger1998-05-01International Polymer Processing

Abstract Kinetic studies of the bulk polymerization of methyl methacrylate at high temperature have been carried out first without any additives and then in the presence of 1-Butanethiol as a chain transfer agent. A pressurised dilatometric reactor operating at high temperature is used to determine the time-conversion…

The biosynthetic threonine deaminase from Escherichia coli, an allosteric tetramer with key regulatory functions, has been crystallized in several crystal forms. Two distinct forms, both belonging to either space group P3121 or P3221, with different sized asymmetric units that both contain a tetramer, grow under ident…

Computer Modelling of Radiation Damage in Cation Sublattice of Corundum

E. A. Kotomin、Anatoli I. Popov、Arvids Stashans1998-05-01physica status solidi (b)

Results of quantum chemical computer simulations of close Frenkel defects in corundum crystals are presented and discussed. The conclusion is drawn that the energy barrier for a back recombination up to fourth nearest neighbours is less than 0.3 eV, i.e. such pairs should be unstable at temperatures above 40 K.

An experimental test of the path dependency of Pancharatnam's geometric phase

Heidrun Schmitzer、Susanne Klein、W. Dultz1998-05-01Journal of Modern Optics

In crystal optics the concept of the geometric phases can be demonstrated to the naked eye with comparatively simple apparatus. Pancharatnam's phase is described by an area on the Poincaré sphere which is enclosed by geodesic lines (great circles) while the concept of the Berry phase does not restrict the nature of th…
