Structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of a ferromagnetic semiconductor: Co-dopedTiO2rutile

W. T. Geng、Kwang S. Kim2003-09-12Physical review. B, Condensed matter

The local environment around magnetic impurity atoms was reported to be unchanged in a structural phase transition of nanocrystalline Co-doped ferromagnetic ${\mathrm{TiO}}_{2}.$ Our ab initio density functional theory investigations show that the substitutional Co ions incorporated into ${\mathrm{TiO}}_{2}$ rutile te…

Observation of ferroelectromagnetic nature in rare-earth-substituted bismuth iron titanate

A. Srinivas、Dong‐Wan Kim、Kug Sun Hong 等 4 位作者2003-09-12Applied Physics Letters

Rare earth ions; Nd, Sm, Gd, and Dy, are substituted at the bismuth site in bismuth iron titanate, a four-layered compound which belongs to bismuth layer structured ferroelectrics. A solid-state sintering route was adopted in synthesizing the materials. X-ray diffraction indicates the formation of single-phase materia…

Ab initio electronic structure calculations based on density functional theory are performed for ${\mathrm{Si}}_{n}\mathrm{Fe}$ clusters to determine stable structures. Our results show that these clusters can form the building block for Fe-encapsulated Si-nanotubes. The ${\mathrm{Si}}_{10}\mathrm{Fe}$ and ${\mathrm{S…

Polarization dependences of surface plasmon bands and surface-enhanced Raman bands of single Ag nanoparticles

Tamitake Itoh、Kazuhiro Hashimoto、Yukihiro Ozaki2003-09-12Applied Physics Letters

Polarization dependences of Rayleigh and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) were measured for individual Ag nanoparticles on which Rhodamine 6G molecules were adsorbed. It was found that the polarization dependencies of surface plasmon bands generated by the aggregation of SERS active Ag particles are well synch…

Microtubule Sensors and Sensor Array Based on Polyaniline Synthesized in the Presence of Poly(styrene sulfonate)

Mandakini Kanungo、Anil Kumar、A.Q. Contractor2003-09-12Analytical Chemistry

Microtubule sensors for glucose, urea, and triglyceride were fabricated based on poly(styrene sulfonate)-polyaniline (PSS-PANI) composites synthesized within the pores of track-etched polycarbonate membranes. The synthesis of a sufficiently thick and conducting PSS-PANI film at pH 5 provided the advantage of immobiliz…

A Novel Self-generating Liquid MOCVD Precursor for Co3O4 Thin Films

Antonino Gulino、Paolo Dapporto、Patrizia Rossi 等 4 位作者2003-09-12Chemistry of Materials

The novel [Co(C5F6HO2)2·2H2O·CH3(OCH2CH2)4OCH3] low-melting adduct has been synthesized and characterized. Very mild heating results in the anhydrous Co(hfac)2tetraglyme liquid and thermal stable complex that evaporates intact. This adduct has proven to be a well-suited precursor for MOCVD of cobalt oxide films.

Mean-Field Equation for the Depletion Thickness

G. J. Fleer、A.M. Skvortsov、Remco Tuinier2003-09-12Macromolecules

We derive a general equation for the depletion thickness δ next to a flat wall in a solution of nonadsorbing polymer, which is easily extended to spherical geometry. This equation has the simple form δ -2 = δ 0 -2 + ξ -2 . Here, δ 0 is the value of δ in the limit of infinite dilution, which depends only on the chain l…

Intense ultraviolet cathodoluminescence at 318 nm from Gd3+-doped AlN

U. Vetter、J. Zenneck、H. Hofsäß2003-09-12Applied Physics Letters

We present investigations of Gd-implanted aluminum nitride, studied with cathodoluminescence (CL) as well as time-resolved CL in the temperature range 12–300 K. Luminescence due to intra-4f electron transitions of Gd3+ is dominated by the P7/26→S7/28 transition between the first excited state and the ground state of G…

Novel Polymer Capsules from Amphiphilic Graft Copolymers and Cross-Metathesis

Kurt Breitenkamp、Todd Emrick2003-09-12Journal of the American Chemical Society

We report the synthesis of polymer capsules from amphiphilic graft copolymers composed of reactive, hydrophobic polyolefin backbones and hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) grafts. The capsules are produced by self-assembly of the polymers at the oil-water interface, followed by cross-linking with bis-cyclooctene…

Molecular dynamics (MD) simulation studies of the interface between poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and TiO 2 have been performed at 423 K using a quantum chemistry-based force field. MD simulations revealed that the PEO density is significantly perturbed by TiO 2 surfaces, forming layers of highly dense polymer (compared…

Concept of dielectric constant for nanosized systems

Christophe Delerue、M. Lannoo、G. Allan2003-09-12Physical review. B, Condensed matter

The screening properties of dielectric nanocrystals are analyzed. General arguments confirmed by detailed numerical calculations are presented. It is shown how macroscopic components of the electric field can still be defined for sizes larger than a few Fermi wavelengths and can still be obtained from the bulk dielect…

Tansel Karabacak、J. P. Singh、Yiping Zhao 等 5 位作者2003-09-12Physical review. B, Condensed matter

We observed a scaling behavior during the shadowing growth of isolated Si, Co, Cu, and W nanocolumnar structures on Si substrates using the oblique angle deposition with substrate rotation (also known as glancing angle deposition or simply GLAD). The width of the isolated columns, $W,$ grew as a function of column len…
