Accurate measurement of low insulator contamination levels

William A. Chisholm、P.G. Buchan、Toomas Jarv1994-07-01IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery

The authors describe how accurate estimates of low levels of insulator contamination, in the range of 200 mg/m/sup 2/ (0.02 mg/cm/sup 2/), can only be obtained if several minor errors in conventional surface contamination measurements are corrected.>

Photostimulated Luminescence and Structural Characterization of Ba5 ( PO 4 ) 3Cl : Eu2 + Phosphors

Mineo Sato、Tsutomu Tanaka、Masatoshi Ohta1994-07-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

Intense luminescence whose wavelength is ca. 435 nm is observed under the excitation of 680 nm in phosphors irradiated by x‐rays. From ESR measurements, typical F‐centers are created in the phosphors on x‐ray exposure. These results clearly indicate photostimulated luminescence (PSL) occurring in these phosphors. The…

The Drosophila tissue polarity gene inturned functions prior to wing hair morphogenesis in the regulation of hair polarity and number.

Paul N. Adler、Jeannette Charlton、Woojin Park1994-07-01Genetics

The adult cuticular wing of Drosophila is covered with an array of distally pointing hairs. Mutations in the inturned (in) gene result in both abnormal hair polarity (i.e., hairs no longer point distally), and, in most cells forming more than one hair. We have isolated and characterized a collection of in alleles. Amo…

Influence of vacancies and mixed valence on the transport processes in solid solutions with the spinel structure

T. Groń1994-07-01Philosophical Magazine B

In the spinel compounds of ACr2 X 4 type, and in the spinel series of Zn1−xGa2x/3Cr2Se4, ZnCr2-xInxSe4, Zn1−xCuxCr2Se4 and Li1+xTi2-x,O4, the influence of vacancies and mixed valence on the transport processes is considered. For this purpose, a procedure of calculation of the ion packing coefficients was used and calc…

Liquid crystalline epoxy resins containing binaphthyl group as rigid block with enhanced thermal stability

Cosimo Carfagna、Eugenio Amendola、Marta Giamberini1994-07-01Macromolecular Chemistry and Physics

Abstract The synthesis and characterization of a novel liquid crystalline difunctional epoxy compound, 6,6′‐bis(2,3‐epoxypropoxy)‐2,2′‐binaphthyl ( 4 ), is presented. This epoxide, obtained by glycidyl termination of 2,2′‐binaphthyl‐6,6′‐diol, shows a nematic phase between 240 and 270°C. The curing reaction was carrie…

XPS‐investigation of titanium modified MFI‐type zeolites

I. Grohmann、W. Pilz、G. Walther 等 5 位作者1994-07-01Surface and Interface Analysis

Abstract The chemical bonding of titanium in MFI‐type zeolites (Ti‐silicalite) has been investigated using x‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Different titanium silicalites as well as pure titania (anatase) have been analysed. We have found a distinctively higher binding energy of the Ti 2p photoelectrons in Ti‐s…

Surface modification of PET films with RF plasma and adhesion of in situ evaporated Al on PET

Quoc Toan Le、J. J. Pireaux、J.J. Verbist1994-07-01Surface and Interface Analysis

Abstract PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) films were modified with two different plasmas, nitrogen and oxygen, as a function of treatment times and RF powers. Firstly, the chemical composition of the plasma‐modified PET films was investigated by XPS. In the case of nitrogen plasma, the formation of amine, imine and am…

Fusion proteins as tools for crystallization: the lactose permease from Escherichia coli

Gilbert G. Privé、Gill Verner、Cindy Weitzman 等 6 位作者1994-07-01Acta Crystallographica Section D Biological Crystallography

A novel strategy is presented for the crystallization of membrane proteins or other proteins with low solubility and/or stability. The method is illustrated with the lactose permease from Escherichia coli, in which a fusion is constructed between the permease and a 'carrier' protein. The carrier is a soluble, stable p…

High-strength and high-conductivity Cu-Ag alloy sheets: new promising conductor for high-fieId Bitter coils

Y. Sakai、Katsuya Inoue、Hiroshi Maeda1994-07-01IEEE Transactions on Magnetics

A sheet-conductor fabrication method has been developed for Cu-Ag alloys containing 6-24 mass% Ag. Both the strength and the conductivity of the sheet were improved remarkably by the repetition of heat treatment combined with cold working. The intermediate heat treatments were repeated 3 times at 400-450/spl deg/C for…

X‐ray Diffraction Analysis of the Pyrolytic Conversion of Perhydropolysilazane into Silicon Nitride

Cheryl R. Blanchard、Stuart T. Schwab1994-07-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

A detailed investigation using X‐ray diffraction and other supportive techniques was performed on a preceramic polysilazane to study its pyrolytic conversion to silicon nitride (Si 3 N 4 ). Analytical techniques were developed to determine the volumetric degree of crystallinity with respect to pyrolysis temperature. Q…

Electrochemical formation of a self‐doped conductive polymer in the absence of a supporting electrolyte. The copolymerization of o‐aminobenzenesulfonic acid and aniline

César A. Barbero、R. Kötz1994-07-01Advanced Materials

Electrochemical polymerization without a supporting electrolyte would most probably yield a material with more reproducible and better difined propertis, and is therefore a technique to be encouraged. The formation of an electroactive, self‐doped polymer (see Figure) by electropolymerization is described and the analy…

Structural characterization of platinum deposits supported on ordered alumina films

Jörg Libuda、M. Bäumer、H.-J. Freund1994-07-01Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology A Vacuum Surfaces and Films

Platinum on γ-Al2O3 represents one of the technically important supported catalysts. In order to model such a system, we have prepared a well-ordered 5-Å-thick and atomically flat oxide film with γ-alumina-like structure on NiAl(110). Its defect structure has been subject to a spot-profile analysis–low-energy electron…

Morphological and Physicochemical Changes in the Myosin Molecules Induced by Hydrostatic Pressure1

Katsuhiro Yamamoto、Yuko Yoshida、Jun-Ichiro Morita 等 4 位作者1994-07-01The Journal of Biochemistry

Hydrostatic pressure-induced morphological and physiochemical changes in monomeric myosin were investigated. The turbidity of a myosin solution increased after release of pressure, indicating aggregation of the molecules. Some molecules were single headed after exposure to 100-200 MPa, in contrast with an intact molec…
