Preparation and characterization of the Sr5(PO4)3Cl:Eu2+phosphor

S J Dhoble1999-12-22Journal of Physics D Applied Physics

A phosphor Sr 5 (PO 4 ) 3 Cl, doped with Eu 2+ is reported. This is shown to be at least twice as sensitive as the conventional CaSO 4 :Dy phosphor used in thermoluminescence dosimetry of ionizing radiations. It has a linear response, simple glow curve, emission peaking at 456 nm, negligible fading and excellent reusa…

Dielectric relaxation in valence compensated solid solution Sr0.65La0.35Ti0.65Co0.35O3

R. K. Dwivedi、Devendra Kumar、Om Parkash1999-12-22Journal of Physics D Applied Physics

The valence compensated solid solution Sr 0.65 La 0.35 Ti 0.65 Co 0.35 O 3 has been found to exhibit dielectric relaxor behaviour with a very high value of the dielectric constant. In the present investigation, this composition has been prepared using different processing parameters and routes, viz (a) solid-state sin…

Photochemical Switching between a Compensated Nematic Phase and a Twisted Nematic Phase by Photoisomerization of Chiral Azobenzene Molecules

Seiji Kurihara、Syugo Nomiyama、Takamasa Nonaka1999-12-22Chemistry of Materials

This paper summarizes an effect of trans−cis photoisomerization of a chiral azobenzene compound on a phase structure of the compensated nematic liquid crystal (LC) consisting of the chiral azobenzene compound, nonphotochromic chiral compound with opposite twisting ability, and a host nematic LC. The trans−cis photoiso…

Island nucleation in the presence of step edge barriers: Theory and applications

Joachim Krug、Paolo Politi、Thomas Michely1999-12-22arXiv

We develop a theory of nucleation on top of two-dimensional islands bordered by steps with an additional energy barrier $ΔE_S$ for descending atoms. The theory is based on the concept of the residence time of an adatom on the island, and yields an expression for the nucleation rate which becomes exact in the limit of s…

Magnetic history dependence of metastable states in systems with dipolar interactions

Oscar Iglesias、Amilcar Labarta1999-12-22arXiv

We present the results of a Monte Carlo simulation of the ground state and magnetic relaxation of a model of a thin film consisting on a two-dimensional square lattice of Heisenberg spins with perpendicular anisotropy K, exchange J and long-range dipolar interactions g. We have studied the ground state configurations…

Reaction of NO2 with Zn and ZnO: Photoemission, XANES, and Density Functional Studies on the Formation of NO3

José A. Rodríguez、Tomàš Jirsàk、Joseph Dvorak 等 5 位作者1999-12-22OpenAlex

Synchrotron-based high-resolution photoemission and X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy (XANES) have been used to study the interaction of NO 2 with polycrystalline surfaces of metallic zinc and zinc oxide. NO 2 exhibits a complex chemistry on metallic zinc. After adsorbing nitrogen dioxide, N, O, NO, NO 2, and NO…

<title>Development of a SERS optode for the in-situ detection of chemicals in sea water</title>

Heinar G. Schmidt、Thomas M. Murphy、S. Lucht 等 4 位作者1999-12-21Proceedings of SPIE, the International Society for Optical Engineering/Proceedings of SPIE

The purpose of this work is the development of a method for the in-situ detection of chemicals in sea water. Raman scattering was chosen as it is a non-intrusive method yielding finger-printing spectra of the analytes. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is used to provide the sensitivity necessary for trace anal…

A possible origin of anomalous properties of proper uniaxial ferroelectrics near the lock-in transition

S. V. Berezovsky、В. Ф. Клепиков1999-12-21Journal of Physics Condensed Matter

A mechanism which may be responsible for the anomalies in the behaviour of type II ferroelectrics near the lock-in transition is considered. The state of the system is suggested to be quasistationary. The defects of the incommensurate modulation wave are found to play an important role and give additional contribution…

Formation of a Continuous Mesoporous Silica Film with Fully Aligned Mesochannels on a Glass Substrate

Hirokatsu Miyata、Kazuyuki Kuroda1999-12-21Chemistry of Materials

A continuous mesoporous silica film with uniaxially aligned hexagonal mesochannels was formed on a silica glass substrate using a rubbing-treated thin polyimide coating on the substrate. Polyimide which has a hexamethylene group per the repeating unit as a part of the main chain was used. The mesostructured silica fil…

For a deuterated solid solution of 15% antiferroelectric betaine phosphate (BP) and 85% ferroelectric betaine phosphite (BPI), measurements of the dielectric permittivity at frequencies 20 Hz< <1 MHz are reported. The freezing phenomena in DBP 0.15 DBPI 0.85 reveal the characteristics of a transition into a dipolar gl…

Dielectric dispersion of the relaxor PLZT ceramics in the frequency range 20 Hz-100 THz

S. Kamba、V. Bovtun、J. Petzelt 等 9 位作者1999-12-21Journal of Physics Condensed Matter

The dielectric dispersion of the transparent relaxor ferroelectric ceramics PLZT 8/65/35 and 9.5/65/35 was determined in a wide frequency range including the microwave and infrared range. The number of observed polar phonons in infrared spectra gives evidence about the locally broken cubic symmetry and the presence of…

Light propagation in domain walls in ferroelectric liquid crystal devices by the finite-difference time-domain method

Emmanouil E. Kriezis、Sergey K. Filippov、Steve J. Elston1999-12-21Journal of Optics A Pure and Applied Optics

A finite-difference time-domain method for light wave propagation through a liquid crystal cell containing a twisted/tilted deformation profile is presented. Our interest is focused on deformation profiles that correspond to the commonly encountered domain walls found in ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) devices. The…

J. Ricote、R. W. Whatmore、D. J. Barber1999-12-21Journal of Physics Condensed Matter

The character of the ferroelectric domains in lead zirconate titanate (PbZr 1- x Ti x O 3 - PZT) ceramics has been studied using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) for compositions right across the rhombohedral phase ( x = 0.06 to x = 0.45). The polarization hysteresis has also been determined for the same specime…

Theory and applications of the stress density

Alessio Filippetti、Vincenzo Fiorentini1999-12-21arXiv

Drawing on the theory of quantum mechanical stress, we introduce the stress density in density functional theory. In analogy with the Chetty-Martin energy density, the stress density provides a spatial resolution of the contributions to the integrated macroscopic stress tensor. We give specific prescriptions for a pra…

Neutron powder diffraction has been used to examine the structural changes of the rare-earth aluminates LaAlO 3 , PrAlO 3 and NdAlO 3 over a wide range of temperatures. At room temperature, all three aluminates adopt the rhombohedral perovskite structure in space group R c ( a = 5.3647(1) Å, c = 13.1114(3) Å for LaAlO…
