The composites of alumina matrix and stainless steel rope were fabricated by hot pressing at 1573K. Most of the interfaces between alumina matrix and stainless rope were good contact, but a part of the interfaces had cracks probably because of thermal stress during cooling after the hot press treatment. The composites…

The potassium (K) status of 22 soil samples from 12 pedons originating in 6 Pacific Island countries has been investigated by several techniques. The total K contents of the soils studied were found to be low to very low. Use of various methods available for measuring exchangeable cations in soils showed exchangeable…

Aluminium titanate (tialite, Al 2 TiO 5 ) is a refractory material of low thermal expansion coefficient. However, single crystals have strongly anisotropic linear expansion coefficients along their principal axes. Tialite can be readily synthesised on heating a mixture of conventional corundum and rutile powders, star…

Perovskite oxides of La1-xNaxTiO3 (x=0. 05, 0. 1-0. 5) were synthesized under high-pressure and -temperature. XRD analysis showed that sample is cubic for x=0. 05 and pseudo-cubic for 0. 1≤x≤0. 5. Cell volumes of samples with 0. 1≤x≤0. 5 decrease as x increase, and the cell volume for x=0. 05 is less than that for x=0…

AbstractThe corrosion inhibiting effects of three additives, sodium benzoate, calcium gluconate, and sodium glycerophosphate, as coinhibitors with Na2WO4 were investigated by measuring the corrosion weight loss of mild steel in distilled water and in 10−3M NaCl. The specimens were examined and photographed under a met…

Historically, bearing steels have been manufactured using “clean steel technology” to produce a product that has reduced levels of non-metallic inclusions. Included in this review are the key steel production practices that have evolved over time to make steels with superior cleanliness. The evolution of steelmaking p…

The phases of cerium above 5GPa have been studied using angle-dispersive powder diffraction techniques. With filings of Ce, a C-face-centred monoclinic structure with four atoms per unit cell is obtained between 5 and 12GPa. Heating to 373K for many hours yields the known α-U phase. With a single cut piece as a sample…

It is well known that the Cupro®, Polynosic and organic solvent span rayons, such as Tencel®, and Lyoce® fibers are easy to fibrillate. The Rayon fiber is difficult to fibrillate. We developed fibrillation-resistant Cupro(CUPRO2) by means of a new spinning method. In this study, we attempted to compare the solid struc…

The current trend in Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) development is for a lowering of the operation temperature from ~ 1000°C to temperatures as low as 600°C. This lowering of temperature is beneficial in a number of ways. It relaxes the stringent materials requirements for cell components, particularly, the interconnect…
