Plasticity‐Induced Fatigue Damage in Ceria‐Stabilized Tetragonal Zirconia Polycrystals

Shih‐Yu Liu、I‐Wei Chen1994-08-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Current studies on the fatigue lifetime of ceramics are mostly focused on the relation between the stress amplitude (or maximum Stress) and cycles to failure. For a more compliant and plastic ceramic which has a pronounced nonlinear stress–strain relation, the role of plastic strain in the fatigue damage is investigat…

Dynamic Water Vapor and Heat Transport Through Layered Fabrics

Takeshi Yasuda、Masayo Miyama、Akiko Muramoto 等 4 位作者1994-08-01Textile Research Journal

In Parts I and II, we reported that during nonsteady-state transport of water vapor through layered fabrics, the temperature between two fabrics rose. In this study, we measure the surface temperature of the first-layer fabrics in similar experiments. The mass of the first layer is changed by tightly stacking the same…

Slow crack growth of blends of high density and linear low density polyethylenes as influenced by morphology

Zhiqiang Zhou、Norman Brown1994-08-01Polymer

A high density polyethylene homopolymer was blended with a linear low density ethylene hexene copolymer over the composition range of 0–100%. The resistance to slow crack growth was measured by a notched tensile test under constant load at 42, 60 and 80°C. The morphology was varied by slow cooling, quenching and annea…

N. Sanjeeva Murthy、Y. P. Khanna、A. J. Signorelli1994-08-01Polymer Engineering and Science

Abstract Crystallinities of films of copolymers of chlorotrifluoroethylene with 0 to 4% vinylidene fluoride, different molecular weights and thermal histories were calculated from differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), and density measurements. The crystallinities for these films range betwe…

Electrochemical Evaluation of La‐Ni‐Sn Metal Hydride Alloys

B. V. Ratnakumar、C. Witham、B. Fultz 等 4 位作者1994-08-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

A detailed electrochemical evaluation of Sn‐modified LaNi 5 was performed to evaluate its performance as a negative electrode in alkaline rechargeable cells. Substituting small amounts of Sn for Ni provides a large improvement in the initial capacity and cycle lifetime of the electrode, and also serves to improve the…

In situ Raman spectroscopy during diamond growth in a microwave plasma reactor

L. Fayette、B. Marcus、Michel Mermoux 等 6 位作者1994-08-01Journal of Applied Physics

An experimental set-up designed for in situ Raman analysis during the growth of diamond films in a microwave plasma reactor is described. A gated multichannel detection synchronized with a pulsed YAG laser is used to discriminate the Raman signals from the plasma emission. The in situ detection of a diamond film durin…

Whisker Toughening of Ceramics: Toughening Mechanisms, Fabrication, and Composite Properties

Murat Bengisu、Oğuzcan İnal1994-08-01Annual Review of Materials Science

Gallium is a metal that literally melts in your hand. It has low toxicity, near-zero vapor pressure, and a viscosity similar to water. Despite possessing a surface tension larger than any other liquid (near room temperature), gallium can form nonspherical ...Read More

Intramolecular Contributions to Stretched-Exponential Relaxation Behavior in Polymers

İvet Bahar、Burak Erman、George Fytas 等 4 位作者1994-08-01Macromolecules

ABSTRACT: Theoretical and experimental evidence for the occurrence of multiple relaxation regimes in polymers far above the glass transition temperature is presented and interpreted in terms of the Kohlrausch-Williams-Watts (KWW) stretched exponential expression. Intramolecular effects responsible for the observation…

Quantitative Determination of the Cubic‐to‐Monoclinic Phase Transformation in Fully Stabilized Zirconias by Raman Spectroscopy

Christos G. Kontoyannis、G. Carountzos1994-08-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Vibrational Raman spectroscopy was used successfully for the quantitative determination of the cubic and monoclinic phases of zirconia. Pressed pellets with known composition were prepared using monoclinic and cubic powders from different manufacturers and were used as standard mixtures. An intensity ratio plot of the…

Characterization of High Valent Iron Porphyrin in Catalytic Reaction by Iron(III) Tetrapentafluorophenylporphyrin

Hiroshi Fujii1994-08-01Chemistry Letters

Abstract High valent species formed from iron(III) meso-tetra-(pentafluorophenyl)porphyrin was first prepared in dichloromethane and characterized by low-temperature UV-vis absorption spectra, proton NMR and ESR. These measurements showed the formation of oxo iron(IV) porphyrin π-cation radical, not iron(V) porphyrin.

Nucleation and Growth of Diamond Films on Ni‐Cemented Tungsten Carbide: Effects of Substrate Pretreatments

Riccardo Polini、Giancarlo Marcheselli、Enrico Traversa1994-08-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

The nucleation and growth of diamond films on Nicemented carbide is investigated. Substrates made of WC with 6 wt% of Ni were submitted to grinding, and then to different pretreatments (scratching, etching, and/or decarburization) before diamond deposition. Diamond synthesis was carried out by hot‐filament chemical va…

A general approach for multiconfiguration methods in quantum molecular chemistry

Claude Le Bris1994-08-01Annales de l Institut Henri Poincaré C Analyse Non Linéaire

We are concerned with a family of minimization problems arising in Quantum Chemistry for the modelling of the ground state of a molecule. We study the multiconfiguration methods, which are an extension of the well known Hartree–Fock method. We propose a general approach to prove the existence of the ground state in th…

J. E. Graebner、Sungho Jin、J. A. Herb 等 4 位作者1994-08-01Journal of Applied Physics

The thermal conductivity has been measured in the temperature range 5–400 K for a series of chemical-vapor-deposited diamond samples differing only in thickness. By analyzing the conductance, a local conductivity is extracted as a function of height z above the substrate on which the samples were grown. An analysis of…
