Spatially Discrete Nonlinear Diffusion Equations

John W. Cahn、Shui-Nee Chow、Erik S. Van Vleck1995-03-01Rocky Mountain Journal of Mathematics

We consider spatially discrete nonlinear diffusion equations that are similar in form to the Cahn-Hilliard and Cahn-Allen equations.Since these equations are spatially discrete, solutions exist even for negative gradient energy coefficients. In order to study these equations analytically on finite subsets of one, two a…

S. Ritsch、C. Beeli、H.‐U. Nissen 等 4 位作者1995-03-01Philosophical magazine. A/Philosophical magazine. A. Physics of condensed matter. Structure, defects and mechanical properties

In a decagonal quasicrystal with composition AI70Co15Ni15 two different types of superstructure have been found by electron microscopy techniques. One of these superstructures has previously been observed. The other newly characterized superstructure causes a ring-like zone of low diffraction intensities and, addition…

Bipolar Electrodiffusion Model for Electroconvection in Nematics

Martin Treiber、Lorenz Kramer1995-03-01Molecular crystals and liquid crystals science technology. Section A, Molecular crystals and liquid crystals/Molecular crystals and liquid crystals science and technology. Section A, Molecular crystals and liquid crystals

The common description of the electrical behavior of a nematic liquid crystal as an anisotropic dielectric medium with (weak) ohmic conductivity is extended to an electrodiffusion model with two active ionic species. Under appropriate, but rather general conditions the additional effects can lead to a distinctive chan…

The effects of Plateau borders in the two-dimensional soap froth III. Further results

Stefan Hutzler、D. Weaire、F. Bolton1995-03-01Philosophical Magazine B

The computer simulation of two-dimensional foams allows a comprehensive description of the mechanical properties of these systems. In particular, we have calculated elastic constants and yield stress of disordered foams as functions of the gas fraction Π@, greatly improving and extending the previous results of Bolton…

Pr^3+-doped GeSx-based glasses for fiber amplifiers at 13 μm

D.R. Simons、A. Faber、H. de Waal1995-03-01Optics Letters

The photoluminescence properties of Pr(3+)-doped GeS(x)-based glasses are studied and compared with those of other sulfide and fluoride glasses. The possibility of highly pump-power-efficient fiber amplifiers based on these GeS(x)-containing glasses in the telecommunications window at 1.3microm is discussed.

Electron microscopy study of coiled carbon tubules

D. Bernaerts、X. B. Zhang、X. F. Zhang 等 8 位作者1995-03-01Philosophical magazine. A/Philosophical magazine. A. Physics of condensed matter. Structure, defects and mechanical properties

Carbon fibres prepared by the catalytic decomposition of acetylene over finely dispersed cobalt, supported on amorphous silica, are often helix shaped. The structure of such carbon fibres was studied by means of various electron diffraction techniques and by electron microscopy. It was shown that the tubules are hollo…

Diamond-coated silicon field emitters were fabricated and investigated. Emission currents of few μA per tip at voltages of several hundred volts were obtained from very blunt tips with curvature radii up to 3 μm. The values of the effective work function calculated from Fowler–Nordheim plot were in the range from 0.3…

Ilaria De Munari、A. Scorzoni、Fabrizio Tamarri 等 4 位作者1995-03-01Semiconductor Science and Technology

The activation energy of electromigration in 'bamboo'-type, passivated Al-1% Si/TiN/Ti lines was determined by means of high resolution resistance measurements at wafer level. Both the very early stages, with a nonlinear behaviour of the resistance, and the subsequent stages, characterized by an approximately constant…

Electrical properties of ferroelectric thin-film capacitors with hybrid (Pt,RuO2) electrodes for nonvolatile memory applications

Husam N. Alshareef、Orlando Auciello、Angus I. Kingon1995-03-01Journal of Applied Physics

For Pb(ZrxTi1−x)O3 (PZT) thin-film capacitors to be used in ferroelectric nonvolatile memories, they must have low polarization fatigue and low leakage currents. PZT capacitors fabricated in our laboratory with RuO2 electrodes exhibit excellent polarization fatigue characteristics, but they have large and variable lea…

Persistence lengths of aromatic polyamides: a computer simulation approach

Chaobin He、Alan H. Windle1995-03-01Macromolecular Theory and Simulations

Abstract A range of polyamides has been modelled using Monte Carlo routines based on carefully determined bond‐rotation potentials, bond length and bond angle. For each polymer type, a large number of chains has been built for different simulated temperatures, and the persistence lengths determined as an average over…
