FuelCell Energy, Inc. (FCE) has developed products based on its Direct FuelCell® (DFC®) technology with efficiencies near 50% based on lower heating values of natural gas. DFC is an internally reformed molten carbonate fuel cell, which operates in the 550–700°C range. The combination of the internal reforming of metha…

Interaction of hydrogen with zinc oxide nanorods: why the spacing is important

Michelle J. S. Spencer、Irene Yarovsky、Wojtek Wlodarski 等 4 位作者2011-02-22Nanotechnology

Hydrothermally grown ZnO nanorods show high interaction rates with H₂ when the spacing between adjacent nanorods decreases. Density functional theory calculations showed the interaction between nanorod surfaces in-registry is attractive at separations < 5 Å, while it is repulsive for out-of-registry alignments, indica…

We report the fluorescence decrease of the water-soluble π-π-conjugated polymer poly(2-methoxy-5-propyloxy sulfonate phenylene vinylene, MPS-PPV) by the catalytic activity of horseradish peroxidase in the presence of H(2)O(2). MPS-PPV acts as a donor substrate in the catalytic cycle of horseradish peroxidase where the…

Size‐independent zeroth order electric plasmonic cavity resonator

S. Couture、Armin Parsa、Christophe Caloz2011-02-22Microwave and Optical Technology Letters

Abstract A size‐independent rectangular resonator supporting a mode with a uniform electromagnetic field is presented. This resonator uses a 2D array of metallic wires emulating an effective medium with zero permittivity at the resonance frequency. The field expressions for the resonator are derived and simulation res…

Dependence of Si-Faceted Dendrite Growth Orientation on Twin Spacing and Undercooling

Xinbo Yang、Kozo Fujiwara、Kensaku Maeda 等 6 位作者2011-02-22Crystal Growth & Design

Si-faceted dendrites growth orientation as a function of twin spacing and undercooling were investigated by in situ observation, and the mechanisms of the growth behaviors were discussed and clarified. The growth orientation of Si-faceted dendrites strongly depends on the twin spacing and undercooling. For a given und…

Induced current in the presence of a magnetic flux tube of small radius

A. I. Milstein、I. S. Terekhov2011-02-22Physical Review B

The induced current density, corresponding to the massless Dirac equation in ($2+1$) dimensions in a magnetic flux tube of small radius is considered. This problem is important for graphene. In the case when an electron cannot penetrate the region of nonzero magnetic field, this current is the odd periodical function…

Photovoltaic response of a topotaxially formed CdS–CuxS single nanorod heterojunction

B. R. Mehta、Saatviki Gupta、Vidya Nand Singh 等 5 位作者2011-02-22Nanotechnology

In the present study, a combination of a hydrothermal route and a topotaxial conversion reaction has been used to grow a cadmium sulfide-copper sulfide (CdS-Cu(x)S) single nanorod heterojunction. The J-V characteristics of the CdS nanorods show Shockley behaviour consistent with the energy band diagram of the platinum…

Ashkan Behnam、Jason L. Johnson、Yanbin An 等 5 位作者2011-02-22ACS Nano

We fabricate, pattern, and analyze thin films composed of multilayer graphene nanoribbons. These films are conductive at room temperature but depict noticeable insulating behavior at low temperatures (<20 K) due to their disordered structure. We study the transport in this strong localization regime by analyzing the d…

Are Zeolite Films Flexible?

Theodoros Baimpos、Dimitris Kouzoudis、Leszek Góra 等 4 位作者2011-02-22Chemistry of Materials

The elasticity and flexibility of a silicalite-1 film grown on a metglas ribbon is demonstrated. Adsorption of n-hexane induces “swelling” of the zeolite film, which causes the bending of the ribbon. The deformation is reversible, repeatable, and its magnitude depends on the adsorbed organic vapor.

Multi-stage growth of ZnO nanorod arrays has been carried out by Au-assisted chemical vapor deposition (CVD) in order to better understand and more precisely control the growth behaviors. It is evidenced that Au-catalyzed vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) growth only dominates the initial site-specific nucleation of the nanoro…

D. Pullini、D. Busquets-Mataix2011-02-22ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces

Co/Cu-multilayer nanowires can be exploited to develop magnetoresistive sensors. One of the easiest methods for their production is filling nanoporous templates by pulsed-electrodeposition (PED) from a single bath. Multiple parameters effecting the growth of these nano-objects must be controlled to tailor their proper…

Charles Maldarelli2011-02-22Journal of Fluid Mechanics

Droplets of an aqueous phase placed on a very hydrophobic, waxy surface bead-up rather than spread, forming a sessile drop with a relatively large contact angle at the edge of the drop. Surfactant molecules, when dissolved in the aqueous phase, can facilitate the wetting of an aqueous drop on a hydrophobic surface. On…
