M. Kohketsu、Koichi Awazu、Hiroshi Kawazoe 等 4 位作者1989-04-01Japanese Journal of Applied Physics

Two types of diamagnetic luminescence centers were found in VAD SiO 2 glass sintered under reducing atmospheres. One of the PL centers, which had an excitation band at 5.17 eV (240 nm) and two emission bands, at 4.2 eV (295 nm) and 3.1 eV (400 nm), was mainly detected in the glasses sintered under H 2 /He atmosphere.…

Gelatin with hydrophilic/hydrophobic grafts and glutaraldehyde crosslinks

P. R. Chatterji1989-04-01Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract Acrylic monomers were graft copolymerized onto gelatin chains using potassium persulfate in aqueous medium. The graft copolymers were then treated with glutaraldehyde to establish crosslinks between gelatin macromolecules. This yielded a rigid water insoluble protein network sporting grafted chains at random.…

A finite element method for analysis of fluid flow, heat transfer and free interfaces in Czochralski crystal growth

P.A. Sackinger、Robert A. Brown、Jeffrey J. Derby1989-04-01International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids

Abstract A finite element algorithm is presented for simultaneous calculation of the steady state, axisymmetric flows and the crystal, melt/crystal and melt/ambient interface shapes in the Czochralski technique for crystal growth from the melt. The analysis is based on mixed Lagrangian finite element approximations to…

The β Subunit of Tryptophan Synthase

Edith Wilson Miles、Hiroshi Kawasaki、Salman Ahmed 等 6 位作者1989-04-01Journal of Biological Chemistry

Our studies, which are aimed at understanding the catalytic mechanism of the beta subunit of tryptophan synthase from Salmonella typhimurium, use site-directed mutagenesis to clarify the functional roles of several putative active site residues. Although previous chemical modification studies have suggested that histi…

Stanley P. Rowland、Phyllis S. Howley1989-04-01Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract Hydrolyses of selected soluble polysaccharides (e.g., polyoses) and disordered and crystalline celluloses, each bearing 2‐diethylaminoethyl (DEAE) substituents at low degree of substitution (DS < 0.05) were explored in 100% and 2 N trifluoroacetic acid (TFA). Analyses were evaluated relative to hydrolysis…

Molecular-dynamical calculations of irradiation-produced point defects in bcc metals

Yukichi Taji、Tadao Iwata、Terufumi Yokota 等 4 位作者1989-04-01Physical review. B, Condensed matter

Molecular-dynamical calculations show that bcc metals are classified into two groups [(Mo, W, Fe) and (V, Nb, Ta)] concerning the configurations of irradiation-produced point defects. The potentials used are those constructed from elastic constants by Johnson and Wilson. In the first group, the stable interstitial pro…

Dopant Segregation in CZ and MCZ Silicon Crystal Growth: A Comparison Between Experiment and Numerical Simulation

K. M. Kim、W. E. Langlois1989-04-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

Solute transport in Czochralski (CZ) crystal growth and in magnetic Czochralski (MCZ) with a vertical applied field are simulated numerically, and compared with published experimental data on gallium segregation in silicon growth. In the MCZ cases, the low segregation coefficient of 0.008 leads to a steep concentratio…

Preparation and electrical properties of heterojunctions of ZnO on Zn3P2 and CdTe

M Ginting、J. D. Leslie1989-04-01Canadian Journal of Physics

"Heterojunctions" have been fabricated by the reactive evaporation of thin film n-type ZnO onto p-type single crystal Zn 3 P 2 , polycrystalline films of Zn 3 P 2 , and single crystal CdTe. The photovoltaic response of the n-ZnO – single crystal p-CdTe devices was good, that of the n-ZnO – single crystal p-Zn 3 P 2 de…

Effect of NaClO Biocide Additions in Natural Seawater on Stainless Steel Corrosion Resistance

G. Ventura、E. Traverso、A. Mollica1989-04-01CORROSION

The effect of continuous additions of sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) on the localized corrosion resistance of stainless steels (SSs) exposed to natural seawater flowing at 1.5 m/s has been studied in field tests lasting 75 days. Residual chlorine of 0.1 to 0.2 ppm and 1 to 2 ppm in seawater were tested. The continuous pr…

Study on reduction in electric field, charged voltage, ion current and ion density under HVDC transmission lines by parallel shield wires

Yuji Amano、Yoshitaka Sunaga1989-04-01IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery

Several models of shield wire were tested with the Shiobara HVDC (high-voltage direct current) test line. The models contain typical standard wires that are generally used to reduce field effects at ground level, neutral conductors placed at lower parts of the DC line, and an earth corona model to intentionally cancel…

Kinetics for the tensile strength degradation of nylon and kevlar yarns

I. Auerbach1989-04-01Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract The tensile strength degradation of nylon 66 and Kevlar 29 yarns was studied at elevated temperatures and over a broad range of relative humidities. The degradation rates for nylon are initially slow but increase rapidly, suggesting the depletion of an inhibitor. Kevlar showed no evidence for similar inhibito…

George L. Gould、E. A. Irene1989-04-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

In‐situ ellipsometry at a wavelength of 632.8 nm is used to analyze silicon surfaces in an aqueous ambient. The ellipsometric data indicate that a surface which is optically quite similar to bare Si is obtained when the native film is etched from a Si substrate by aqueous . In contrast, the surface obtained by etching…
