We investigate effects of cation (K, Ca, Sr, Ba, La, Bi, Tl, Ag) substitution at Pb-site in $\mathrm{Pb}{\mathrm{Fe}}_{1∕2}{\mathrm{Nb}}_{1∕2}{\mathrm{O}}_{3}$ (PFN) on its diffuse ferroelectric phase transition (DPT) through measurements and modeling of the temperature dependence of its dielectric constant. We find t…

Liquid Crystal Negative Lens

Bin Wang、Mao Ye、Susumu Sato2005-07-01Japanese Journal of Applied Physics

A liquid crystal (LC) negative lens is realized using a two-voltage-driving system. The focal length of the lens is tuned electrically. The properties of the lens are calculated and measured. The LC lens has a very wide focus range, and it preserves its optical quality over the entire range.

Grain boundary impurity segregation and neutron irradiation effects in ferritic alloys

R. G. Faulkner、R.B. Jones、Zheng Lu 等 4 位作者2005-07-01The Philosophical Magazine A Journal of Theoretical Experimental and Applied Physics

Segregation of alloying and impurity elements to grain boundaries in ferritic steels and alloys is known to modify the mechanical properties. This paper considers segregation of such elements, in particular phosphorus and carbon, that occur in ferritic nuclear pressure vessel steels subject to neutron irradiation and…

Synthesis, electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical studies of octaphenylthio-substituted phthalocyanines

Fungisai Matemadombo、M. David Maree、Kenneth I. Ozoemena 等 5 位作者2005-07-01Journal of Porphyrins and Phthalocyanines

Cobalt (4) and iron (5) phenylthio-substituted phthalocyanines ( MPc ( SR ) 8 ) have been synthesized and characterized. Cyclic square wave voltammetry in dimethylformamide containing tetrabutylammonium perchlorate revealed five and six redox processes, respectively, for complexes 4 and 5. The complexes are easier to…

There is a growing consensus that materials become stronger in small volumes and in the presence of large strain gradients. It has not been clear whether this is due to increased resistance to the motion of dislocations, fewer dislocations, or increased difficulty of multiplying dislocations in these situations. A cla…

Novel Methods for Obtaining High Modulus Aliphatic Polyamide Fibers

Richard Kotek、Dong-Hyun Jung、Alan E. Tonelli 等 4 位作者2005-07-01Journal of macromolecular science. Part C, Reviews in macromolecular chemistry and physics/Journal of macromolecular science. Reviews in macromolecular chemistry and physics

Super high modulus polyethylene fibers can be created by converting high molecular weight flexible PE chains into highly oriented and extended chain conformations. However, unlike polyethylene, aliphatic polyamides have very high cohesive energy and therefore cannot be easily drawn and highly oriented. This review add…

Printed Electrochemical Devices Using Conducting Polymers as Active Materials on Flexible Substrates

Miaoxiang Chen2005-07-01Proceedings of the IEEE

This paper reports some of our initial works in pursuit of a simple and low-cost method of fabricating all-organic electrochemical diodes, triodes, and transistors on flexible plastic or paper substrates. Conducting polymer poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT : PSS), utilized as an active c…

Corrosion Inhibition by an Aqueous Extract of Rhizome Powder

S. Rajendran、S Shanmugapriya、T. Rajalakshmi 等 4 位作者2005-07-01CORROSION

An aqueous extract of the plant material rhizome (Curcuma longa L.) powder has been used as a corrosion inhibitor in controlling corrosion of carbon steel immersed in an aqueous solution containing 60 ppm of Cl–, by the mass-loss method, in the absence and presence of Zn2+. The main constituent of this plant extract i…

Properties of Lead-Free Piezoceramics Based on Alkali Niobates

Erling Ringgaard、Thom Wurlitzer、W. Wolny2005-07-01Ferroelectrics

The market for piezoceramic components is dominated by lead zirconate titanate (PZT) materials containing more than 60 wt% lead. Since lead is a toxic heavy metal, it has become a great concern how to eliminate the use of PZT by replacing it by non-harmful materials while maintaining comparable piezoelectric propertie…
