A magnetic field has a lot of useful functions. We focus on two of these functions. The first one is alignment of crystals with magnetic anisotropy. We aligned hydroxyapatite crystals and graphite whiskers during slip casting process under the imposition of the high magnetic field. In the case of the hydroxyapatite cr…

Fabrice Gouanvé、Matthew R. Meyer、J. Grenet 等 6 位作者2006-01-01Composite Interfaces

Hemp, jute, flax, bagasse, coconut and bamboo fibers are some of the natural fibers that have attracted attention for the preparation of composite materials because of their low cost compared with synthetics fibers (glass, carbon). The performance of a natural fiber as reinforcement in composite materials is linked to…

Effect of the electric field on “incommensurate-commensurate” magnetic phase transitions in BiFeO3-type multiferroics

А. Г. Жданов、А. К. Звездин、A. P. Pyatakov 等 5 位作者2006-01-01Physics of the Solid State

The specific features of the “incommensurate-commensurate” phase transitions induced by a magnetic field in multiferroics (materials with coexisting magnetic and electric ordering) are considered. These materials are ferroelectromagnets, for example, bismuth ferrite BiFeO 3 and BiFeO 3 -based compounds, which have spa…

Extended tunnelling states in the benzoic acid crystal: Infrared and Raman spectra of the OH and OD stretching modes

F. Fillaux、Fran ois Romain、Marie-H l ne Limage 等 4 位作者2006-01-01Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics

We compare Raman and infrared spectra of the nuOH/OD modes in benzoic acid crystal powders at 7 K. The extremely sharp Raman bands contrast to the broad infrared profiles and suggest adiabatic separation of hydrogen (deuterium) dynamics from the crystal lattice. There is no evidence of any proton-proton coupling term.…

Jeremy Gray、J. R. Hayes、G.E. Gdowski 等 4 位作者2006-01-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

The influence of nitrates and chlorides on the passive film of alloy 22 (Ni-Cr22-Mo13-W3-Fe3) in chloride-containing solutions (1 and 4 m NaCl) from pH 5 to at 60 and is characterized. The combination of nitrates and chlorides in low pH solutions leads to a variety of different corrosion states, including: active, pas…

O deficiency in the rutile TiO2(110) surface: Ab initio quantum chemical investigation of the electronic properties

G.U. von Oertzen、Andrea R. Gerson2006-01-01International Journal of Quantum Chemistry

Abstract The (110) surface of rutile TiO 2 (110) has been modeled using a density functional theory (DFT) plane‐wave pseudo‐potential method (CASTEP). In this study, 6 and 9 atomic‐layer slabs have been examined. The stoichiometric surface converges to a low‐spin solution in both cases with a density of states (DOS) s…

Mechanical and Dielectric Breakdown Properties of Biodegradable Plastics

Katsuyoshi Shinyama、Shigetaka Fujita2006-01-01IEEJ Transactions on Fundamentals and Materials

The mechanical and dielectric breakdown properties of polylactic acid (PLA), which is a biodegradable plastic, were examined, and a physicochemical analysis was performed. At room temperature, the tensile strength of PLA was about 100 MPa, almost the same as for PP, but at 100°C, even the value for LDPE decreased. The…

High Strain Rate Response of an Elastomer

Tong Jiao2006-01-01AIP conference proceedings

Pressure‐shear plate impact experiments are used to study the nonlinear dynamic response of an elastomer at shearing rates of 105 – 106 s−1. Samples with thicknesses in the range 100 μm – 400 μm are cast between two hard steel plates. Because of the comparatively low impedance of the elastomer, longitudinal waves reve…
