Fluctuating magnetic moments in liquid metals

Mark Patty、Keary Schoen、Wouter Montfrooij2005-06-23arXiv

We re-analyze literature data on neutron scattering by liquid metals to show that non-magnetic liquid metals possess a magnetic moment that fluctuates on a picosecond time scale. This time scale follows the motion of the cage-diffusion process in which an ion rattles around in the cage formed by its neighbors. We find…

Jan W. Stouwdam、Mati Raudsepp、Frank C. J. M. van Veggel2005-06-23Langmuir

Colloidal, organic solvent-soluble Ln3+-doped LaVO4 nanoparticles have been synthesized by a precipitation reaction in the presence of (C18H37O)2PS2- as ligand, that coordinates to the surface of the nanoparticles. The materials are well soluble in chlorinated solvent such as chloroform. Energy transfer of excited van…

Comment on the "Origin of the opalescence at the α--βtransition of quartz: role of the incommensurate phase studied by synchrotron radiation"

T. A. Aslanyan、T. Shigenari、K. Abe 等 4 位作者2005-06-23arXiv

The interpretation of the origin of the light scattering anomalies near the transition from incommensurate (IC) to the alpha-phase of quartz by Dolino et al. (Phys. Rev. Lett. 94, 155701 (2005)) is commented. It is shown that the observed IC structure is a pure transverse acoustic (TA) modulation without any soft opti…

Effect of Two-Dimensionality on Step Bunching Induced by the Drift of Adatoms

Masahide Sato、Makio Uwaha、Yukio Hirose2005-06-23arXiv

We study the effect of two-dimensionality on step bunching induced by drift of adatoms. When anisotropy of the diffusion coefficient changes alternately on consecutive terraces like a Si(001) vicinal face, bunching occurs with the drift of adatoms. If the fluctuation of step bunches is neglected as in the one-dimensio…

Magnetic phase diagram copper metaborate CuB_2O_4 in magnetic field parallel c-axis: resonant, magnetic and magnetoelastic investigations

A. Pankrats、G. Petrakovskii、V. Tugarinov 等 9 位作者2005-06-23arXiv

The magnetic phase diagram in a single crystal of copper metaborate CuB_2O_4 in a magnetic field parallel to a tetragonal axis $c$ has been investigated. From the resonant, magnetic and magnetostrictive data the phase diagram of CuB_2O_4 on a plane ``temperature - magnetic field'' is constructed. The magnetic incommen…

Enhanced tetragonality in (x)PbTiO3-(1−x)Bi(Zn1∕2Ti1∕2)O3 and related solid solution systems

Matthew R. Suchomel、Peter K. Davies2005-06-23Applied Physics Letters

The solid solutions (x)PbTiO3-(1−x)Bi(Zn1∕2Ti1∕2)O3, (x)PbTiO3-(1−x)Bi(Zn1∕2Zn1∕2)O3, and (x)PbTiO3-(1−x)Bi(Zn1∕2Sn1∕2)O3, have been examined by x-ray diffraction, dielectric measurements, and thermal analysis. Unlike most PbTiO3-based solid solutions, these systems show enhanced tetragonality with substitution for Pb…

Polymers and carbon nanotubes—dimensionality, interactions and nanotechnology

Igal Szleifer、Rachel Yerushalmi‐Rozen2005-06-23OpenAlex

The behavior of mixtures of polymers with carbon nanotubes are reviewed. The use of polymers as dispersing agents of individual CNT is described in detail. Two groups of polymer–CNT systems are presented. One corresponds to the case in which the polymer–CNT interactions modify the electronic properties of the tubes. T…
