Evaluation of polyphosphates and polyphosphonates as degradable biomaterials

Mark A. Richards、B. I. Dahiyat、D. M. 等 5 位作者1991-09-01Journal of Biomedical Materials Research

A series of polymers, bisphenol A-based poly(phosphoesters), were evaluated as degradable biomaterials. Degradation was observed for the four polymers studied under both in vitro and in vivo conditions. The rate of degradation was affected by polymer side-chain structure and correlated with the swelling behavior. The…

The Performance of Electrochromic Tungsten Trioxide Films Doped with Cobalt or Nickel

Pei Kang Shen、J. Syed‐Bokhari、A. C. C. Tseung1991-09-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

Tungsten trioxide is being developed as a electrochromic material for smart windows. However, the relatively high electrical resistivity and overpotential for hydrogen evolution and oxidation affect their response time and electrical power consumption. Previous work on indicated that admixing of Pt onto significantly…

Reinforcing high density polyethylene with cellulosic fibers. I: The effect of additives on fiber dispersion and mechanical properties

Rishi Raj、B. V. Kokta1991-09-01Polymer Engineering and Science

Abstract High density polyethylene (HDPE) was reinforced with 0‐40 wt% of wood flour (aspen). The effects of: stearic acid, mineral oil, maleated polyethylene wax, and sodium silicate on the tensile and impact strength of the composite were studied. The comparison of tensile properties of the composites showed that th…

PZT Thin Film Preparation on Pt-Ti Electrode by RF Sputtering

Kazuhide Abe、Hiroshi Tomita、Hiroshi Toyoda 等 5 位作者1991-09-01Japanese Journal of Applied Physics

Pt-Ti alloy films were studied for use as a lower electrode of the ferroelectric lead zirconate titanate (PZT) thin film capacitor. Pt-Ti alloy films with different Ti/Pt atomic ratios were first prepared by rf sputtering. Subsequently, PZT thin films were deposited also by rf magnetron sputtering on the Pt-Ti alloy m…

Manoj K. Chalam、Keith E. Gubbins、Enrique de Miguel 等 4 位作者1991-09-01Molecular Simulation

A Gay-Berne fluid of prolate molecules with length-to-breadth ratio 3 is studied using molecular dynamics simulations. This fluid exhibits vapor, isotropic liquid, nematic, and smectic-B mesophases. For the bulk fluid we report new results along isochores that further delineate the smectic and nematic regions of the p…

Recombinant expression and properties of the human calcium‐binding extracellular matrix protein BM‐40

Roswitha Nischt、Jutta Pottgiesser、Thomas Krieg 等 6 位作者1991-09-01European Journal of Biochemistry

A cDNA construct (approximately 1 kb) of human BM-40 in a plasmid with the cytomegalovirus promoter and enhancer was used to produce several stable clones by transfecting two human cell lines (293, HT 1080). These clones showed a high expression of exogenous 1-kb BM-40 mRNA and no or only little endogenous 2.2-kb mRNA…

The Elastic Constants of Maier-Saupe Rodlike Molecule Nematics

G. Marrucci、Francesco Greco1991-09-01Molecular crystals and liquid crystals

The classical Maier-Saupe theory of spatially uniform nernatics is here extended to the case of distorted configurations. Under the assumption that the molecules are rodlike, the mean field potential is here defined as an average over a suitable neighborhood of the test molecule. The energy density thereby calculated…
