Cryostructuring of polymer systems. Proteinaceous wide-pore cryogels generated by the action of denaturant/reductant mixtures on bovine serum albumin in moderately frozen aqueous media

Ilya A. Rodionov、Natalia V. Grinberg、Tatiana V. Burova 等 5 位作者2015-01-01Soft Matter

Freeze-thaw processing of bovine serum albumin (BSA) aqueous solutions, which contain also the additives of denaturants (urea in this case) and thiol-bearing reductants [cysteine (Cys) in this case] leads to the formation of wide-pore cryogels. The properties and porous morphology of these spongy gel matrices were dem…

, forming a crosslinked hydrogel scaffold. It was shown in this study that the precursor solution remained as a liquid on the order of hours at 20 °C, yet gelation could be induced within minutes by heating to 37 °C. Furthermore, it was shown that HRP release could be controlled by various material and processing para…

Single-particle based helical reconstruction—how to make the most of real and Fourier space

Carsten Sachse2015-01-01AIMS Biophysics

The helical assembly is a fundamental organization principle of biomacromolecules. To determine the structures of helical filaments or tubes has been helped by the fact that many different views of the helical unit are present to reconstruct a three-dimensional image from a single helix. In this review, I present the…
