Depletion and depolarizing effects in ferroelectric thin films and their manifestations in switching and fatigue

A. K. Tagantsev、Cz. Pawlaczyk、Keith G. Brooks 等 6 位作者1995-01-01Integrated ferroelectrics

The manifestations of semiconductor depletion and depolarizing effects in switching and fatigue are studied and compared. It is shown that these effects play important but quite different roles in switching. The depletion effect strongly influences the values of the coercive field, Ec, and is responsible for its filmt…

Solubility of silver sulfadiazine in physiological media and relevance to treatment of thermal burns with silver sulfadiazine cream

Nicholas Tsipouras、Colin Rix、Peter H. Brady1995-01-01Clinical Chemistry

Silver sulfadiazine cream has been a standard treatment for burns over the past two decades. Although many studies have described the phenomenon of silver absorption from burn wounds treated with silver sulfadiazine, they failed to examine the chemistry underlying the absorption process: Silver chloride was assumed to…

The relationship between bacterial cellulose production and growth was investigated and the production was found to be associated with growth. Thus, it was expected that enhanced growth would lead to enhanced cellulose production. On the other hand, factors which promote the growth of and cellulose production by Aceto…

Backscattered electron imaging of the undersurface of resin‐embedded cells by field‐emission scanning electron microscopy

Geoff Richards、I. ap Gwynn1995-01-01Journal of Microscopy

In this study backscattered electron (BSE) imaging was used to display cellular structures stained with heavy metals within an unstained resin by atomic number contrast in successively deeper layers. Balb/c 3T3 fibroblasts were cultured on either 13-mm discs of plastic Thermanox, commercially pure titanium or steel. T…

Raman Spectroscopic Studies on the Formation Mechanism of Hydrous‐Zirconia Fine Particles

Koji Matsui、Hajime Suzuki、Michiharu Ohgai 等 4 位作者1995-01-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

The Raman spectra of hydrous‐zirconia fine particles produced by the hydrolysis of various ZrOCl 2 solutions were investigated. The Raman spectra of hydrous zirconia synthesized at HCl concentrations below 1 mol/L were similar to those of monoclinic, crystalline ZrO 2 ; those of hydrous zirconia synthesized at HCl con…

Effect of tetrahedral Ti in titania–silica mixed oxides on epoxidation activity and Lewis acidity

Seiichiro Imamura、T. Nakaï、Hiroyoshi Kanai 等 4 位作者1995-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Faraday Transactions

The states of Ti in titania–silica mixed oxides have been studied by varying the Ti content. EXAFS analyses indicated that the amount of tetrahedral Ti species increased with a decrease in the Ti content reaching a maximum at 10 to 20 mol% of Ti while octahedrally coordinated Ti predominated in the high Ti content reg…

Role of helium plasma pretreatment in the stability of the wettability, adhesion, and mechanical properties of ammonia plasma-treated polymers. Application to the Al-polypropylene system

Michaël Tatoulian、Farzaneh Arefi‐Khonsari、I. Mabille-Rouger 等 6 位作者1995-01-01Journal of Adhesion Science and Technology

The stability of a plasma-treated polymer surface is an important issue, but very often a surface rendered wettable by the treatment is found to revert to a less wettable state with time. The purpose of this work was to minimize the ageing phenomenon by stabilizing the surface layer via crosslinking using an inert gas…

Fluid flow through hair-bearing appendages: feeding, smelling and swimming at low and intermediate Reynolds numbers.

Koehl Ma1995-01-01PubMed

Many different types of animals use appendages bearing rows of hairs to capture food or molecules from the surrounding fluid, to locomote or to move fluids past themselves. The performance of these appendages, whose hairs operate at Reynolds numbers (Re) of 10(-5) to 10, depends on how much of the fluid that they enco…
