Fluctuation-Induced First-Order Transition of an Isotropic System to a Periodic State

Frank S. Bates、Jeffrey H. Rosedale、Glenn H. Fredrickson 等 4 位作者1988-11-07Physical Review Letters

Small-angle neutron-scattering data, obtained from a near-symmetric isotropic diblock copolymer, demonstrate non-mean-field behavior over a wide temperature range (\ensuremath{\ge} 57\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}C) above the weakly first-order microphase-separation transition. These results are quantitatively ex…

Electro-optic phase modulation and optical second-harmonic generation in corona-poled polymer films

Kenneth D. Singer、Mark G. Kuzyk、William R. Holland 等 8 位作者1988-11-07Applied Physics Letters

Electro-optic phase modulation was measured along with optical second-harmonic generation in thin films of a new copolymer containing a dicyanovinyl-terminated azo dye side chain. Orientational order was imparted to these films by poling with a corona discharge. Details of the electro-optic measurement technique, in w…

Directed walk models of polymers at interfaces

Maria C. Carvalho、Vladimir Privman1988-11-07Journal of Physics A Mathematical and General

The authors report analytical studies of the adsorption-desorption transition of polymers grafted at a penetrable surface, in the 2D and 3D partially directed SAW models. The fraction of adsorbed monomers and the phase diagram of the transition are calculated by the transfer matrix method.

Small angle relaxation of highly deformed nematic liquid crystals

Shin‐Tson Wu、Chiung‐Sheng Wu1988-11-07Applied Physics Letters

Transient phase response associated with a small angle relaxation from highly deformed nematic liquid crystal (LC) directors is analyzed experimentally and numerically. Qualitative agreement between computer simulations and experimental results is obtained. Based on these results, decay time of a fast LC modulator emp…

FIM INVESTIGATION OF ION-IMPLANTED Cu3Au ALLOY

V. A. Ivchenko、N. N. Syutkin、A.Yu. Bunkin1988-11-01Le Journal de Physique Colloques

FIM technique has been applied to investigation of structural state of an ordered alloy implanted by Ar+ and N+ ions. An ordering-disordering phase transition has been observed in the ordered solid solution Cu3Au after irradiation with ions' energies 15-20 keV and doses 1016-1018 cm-2. A near-surface region which has…

A Water-Stable Quadricyclane Derivative

Hitoshi Tamiaki、Kazuhiro Maruyama1988-11-01Chemistry Letters

Abstract A quadricyclane derivative stable in water was first synthesized. Valence isomerization between the quadricyclane and the corresponding norbornadiene was very clean, to be promising for a solar energy storage system.

New data on the phase transition in KSCN

J. Kroupa、Jan Fousek、A. Fousková 等 8 位作者1988-11-01Ferroelectrics

The structural phase transition in single crystals of KSCN which can be classified as improper ferroelastic, has been investigated by accurate birefringence measurements, Brillouin scattering and far infrared spectroscopy. The optical study showed the transition to be of first order. The temperature dependence of the…

Characterization of a Pimple Mound‐Intermound Soil Complex in the Gulf Coast Prairie Region of Texas

David J. Carty、J. B. Dixon、L. P. Wilding 等 4 位作者1988-11-01Soil Science Society of America Journal

Abstract Natural mound and intermound soil pedons were characterized to investigate native mound‐intermound formation and soil properties that may explain unfavorable plant growth that has been observed on sites of truncated mounds. Subrounded mounds average 26‐m apart, 15 m in diam., and 0.5 m in local relief. Mound…

Luc Robbiola、Inocencia Queixalos、Loïc-Pierre Hurtel 等 5 位作者1988-11-01Studies in Conservation

The deterioration of Bronze Age objects from the archaeological site at Fort-Harrouard (France) has been studied, firstly, in relation to their external appearance and the elemental composition of the sound metal. A relationship between the composition of the corroded surface and the underlying sound metal was deduced…

Prediction of Zero-Shear Viscosity of Linear Polybutadienes from the Crossover Point Using Doi-Edwards Theory

R. R. Rahalkar、Henry H. K. Tang1988-11-01Rubber Chemistry and Technology

Abstract Based upon the Doi-Edwards theory, a simple expression has been obtained for zero-shear viscosity in terms of the plateau modulus and the crossover frequency. There are no adjustable parameters in the expression. The model is in very good agreement with the zero-shear viscosity values for linear polybutadiene…

Discussion on eddy current loss under square wave voltage excitation

Toshiro Sato、Yoshiyuki Sakaki1988-11-01IEEE Transactions on Magnetics

The eddy current loss under square-wave voltage excitation is theoretically and experimentally investigated. It is shown that the loss is smaller than under sinusoidal voltage excitation when the peak induction is the same. This decrease strongly depends on the behavior of domain structure.>

Determination of azimuth angle, incidence angle, and contact-potential difference for low-energy electron-diffraction fine-structure measurements

G. Hitchen、S.M. Thurgate1988-11-01Physical review. B, Condensed matter

Low-energy electron-diffraction fine-structure data can often have relatively large inconsistencies associated with the electron-beam incidence conditions. This is in part due to the difficulties associated with working with electrons in the range 0--40 eV and in part due to the crystal being oriented azimuthally befo…
