Spin-cast PEDOT/PSS film are investigated using scanning probe-based spectroscopic techniques. The films are found to consist of relatively well-conducting islands that are embedded in a less conductive matrix. A scanning-tunneling microscope-based method is developed to obtain three-dimensional conductivity images wi…

meso-Pyridine-appended zinc(II) porphyrins Mn and their meso-meso-linked dimers Dn assemble spontaneously, in noncoordinating solvents such as CHCl3, into tetrameric porphyrin squares Sn and porphyrin boxes Bn, respectively. Interestingly, formation of Bn from Dn proceeds via homochiral self-sorting assembly, which ha…

The dispersion law of transverse spin waves known in the Stoner-Hubbard model of itinerant ferromagnetism corresponds to that is well known in more broder and well controlled approach of Fermi-liquid theory. Making use the quantum-field theoretical approach we derive the dispersion law for the transverse spin waves in…

The mechanical stability of open single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) under axial stress (compression and tension) and twist has been re-examined in a search of specific tube-length and load scaling. SWCNT with different chiralities and lengths have been simulated with a classical molecular dynamics method employing t…

Experimental and computational studies were performed to investigate the electronic structure of main group oxides containing edge-sharing octahedra. Compounds belonging to four structure types were investigated: rutile (SnO 2, PbO 2 ), trirutile (MgSb 2 O 6, ZnSb 2 O 6, MgBi 2 O 6, ZnBi 2 O 6 ), PbSb 2 O 6 -type (CdS…

One of the most exciting recent developments concerning molecular architectures is the emerging field of crystalline chalcogenide superlattices that bridges two traditional but distinct areas of research: chalcogenide clusters and porous materials. By combining synthetic and structural concepts in these two areas, man…

For the measurement of space charges profiles, various experimental techniques are available, the most known being the thermal and the acoustic methods. The methods we use for the determination of the space charges belong to the group of non-destructive thermal methods, called FLIMM (Focused Laser Intensity Modulation…

The macrophase dispersion is thermodynamically favorable if the free energy change due to dispersion (isolation of n particles with radius r, at sufficiently low interfacial energy σ) is negative, i.e., ΔF = n4πr 2σ − TΔS < 0, where ΔS(C) is the entropy gain and C is the concentration. If there is a factor opposing di…

In Na4/3Ln26/3(SiO4)6(F1/3O2/3)2 (Ln = La, Ce, Gd) apatites, synthesized by hydrothermal and ceramic methods, Na+ and Ce3+ cations are disordered on 4f sites while O2- and F- anions are disordered in the “apatite” channels. The high U33 value of these anions suggests the onset of conductivity at high temperature.
