The unusual redox disproportionation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde and toluene catalysed by the Pd561phen60(OAc)180 giant cluster under anaerobic conditions was found, whereas in an O2 atmosphere the Pd giant cluster catalyses benzyl alcohol oxidation to benzaldehyde and inhibits its further oxidation.

Dynamical Property of Domain Walls of Triglycine Sulfate in the Vicinity of T c

Jialiang Zhang2002-01-01Ferroelectrics

The dynamical behavior of domain walls of triglycine sulfate was studied in the vicinity of phase transition point T c, by dielectric measurement over the frequency range from 1 MHz to 1 GHz. Above T c, the dielectric dispersion appears in the form of one Cole-Cole arc which is related to the critical slowing down. Be…

Luminescence Upconversion Under High Pressure in Ni 2+ Doped CsCdCl 3

Oliver S. Wenger、Rafael Valiente、Hans U. Güdel2002-01-01High Pressure Research

The near-infrared to visible upconversion properties of Ni 2+ doped CsCdCl 3 are studied as a function of hydrostatic pressure. At 15 K and ambient pressure, near-infrared excitation of Ni 2+ around 810 nm leads to upconversion luminescence centered around 610 nm. Due to the increase of the ligand field strength with…

Orientational relationship among main and side chains of a polyimide alignment layer, liquid crystals monolayer and bulk pretilt angle

Takahiro Sakai、Ken Ishikawa、Hideo Takezoe2002-01-01Liquid Crystals

We have determined the orientational distribution of cyano-substituted side chains of a rubbed polyimide film, and a liquid crystal monolayer adsorbed on the film, by means of optical second harmonic generation. With the orientational distribution of a main chain that was measured in a previous study by means of near-…

Liquid Crystalline Properties and Photochromism of 4-Halogeno-N-(4-alkoxysalicylidene) anilines

Sakumitsu Sakagami、Toshiaki Koga、A. Takase2002-01-01Molecular Crystals and Liquid Crystals

A new homologous series of 4-halogeno-N-(4-alkoxysalicylidene) anilines was synthesized. The phase transitions of these homologues were determined using a differential scanning calorimeter and an ordinary polarizing microscope. It is shown that the homologues exhibit liquid crystalline phases as the terminal alkoxyl c…

In late summer 1995, intertidal flats situated in the freshwater tidal and brackish reaches of the Schelde estuary were sampled to study the microphytobenthos in the upper estuarine reaches. Diatoms dominated the microphytobenthos community at all sites while coccoid green algae, flagellates or cyanobacteria never con…

Analysis of Detrimental Effect on Head Retention by Low Molecular Weight Surface-Active Substances Using Surface Excess

Shuichi Segawa、Shinji Yamashita、Yutaka Mitani 等 4 位作者2002-01-01Journal of the American Society of Brewing Chemists

Low molecular weight surface-active substances such as fatty acids and alcohols have a detrimental effect on head retention. They weaken the foam films by adsorbing on the bubble surface or on the major foam-generating proteins. This study quantitatively demonstrated that the detrimental effect and the defoaming mecha…

In the use of stainless steels at seawater environment, pitting or crevice corrosion of stainless steels become a problem. It was reported that the potential of stainless steel in natural seawater environment rises more noble than in artificial seawater. On the other hand, it is well known that alloying chromium, moly…
