Four-Point Resistance of Individual Single-Wall Carbon Nanotubes

Bo Gao、Yung‐Fu Chen、Michael S. Fuhrer 等 5 位作者2005-10-31Physical Review Letters

We have studied the resistance of single-wall carbon nanotubes measured in a four-point configuration with noninvasive voltage electrodes. The voltage drop is detected using multiwalled carbon nanotubes while the current is injected through nanofabricated Au electrodes. The resistance at room temperature is shown to b…

Ferroelectricity of Perovskites under Pressure

Igor Kornev、L. Bellaiche、Pierre Bouvier 等 6 位作者2005-10-31Physical Review Letters

Ab initio simulations and experimental techniques are combined to reveal that, unlike what was commonly accepted for more than 30 years, perovskites and related materials enhance their ferroelectricity as hydrostatic pressure increases above a critical value. This unexpected high-pressure ferroelectricity is different…

The Topological Non-connectivity Threshold and magnetic phase transitions in classical anisotropic long-range interacting spin system

Roberto Trasarti-Battistoni、Fausto Borgonovi、Giuseppe Luca Celardo2005-10-31arXiv

We analyze from the dynamical point of view the classical characteristics of the Topological Non-connectivity Threshold (TNT), recently introduced in F.Borgonovi, G.L.Celardo, M.Maianti, E.Pedersoli, J.Stat.Phys.,116,516(2004). This shows interesting connections among Topology, Dynamics, and Thermo-Statistics of ferro…

Experimental determination of electron inelastic mean free paths in 13 elemental solids in the 50 to 5000 eV energy range by elastic‐peak electron spectroscopy

Shigeo Tanuma、T. Shiratori、Tadashi Kimura 等 6 位作者2005-10-31Surface and Interface Analysis

Abstract We have determined electron inelastic mean free paths (IMFPs) in C (graphite), Si, Cr, Fe, Cu, Zn, Ga, Mo, Ag, Ta, W, Pt and Au by elastic‐peak electron spectroscopy (EPES) using Ni as a reference material for electron energies between 50 and 5000 eV. These IMFPs could be fitted by the simple Bethe equation f…

Self-assembled nanowires on semiconductor surfaces

J. H. G. Owen、K. Miki、D. R. Bowler2005-10-31arXiv

A number of different families of nanowires which self-assemble on semiconductor surfaces have been identified in recent years. They are particularly interesting from the standpoint of nanoelectronics, which seeks non-lithographic ways of creating interconnects at the nanometre scale (though possibly for carrying sign…

Longitudinal and spin-Hall conductance of a two-dimensional Rashba system with arbitrary disorder

Catalin Pascu Moca、D. C. Marinescu2005-10-31arXiv

We calculate the longitudinal and spin-Hall conductances in four-lead bridges with Rashba - Dresselhaus spin-orbit interactions. Numerical results are obtained both within Landauer-Buttiker formalism and by the direct evaluation of the Kubo formula. The microscopic Hamiltonian is obtained in the tight-binding approxim…

The role of stationarity in magnetic crackling noise

Gianfranco Durin、Stefano Zapperi2005-10-31arXiv

We discuss the effect of the stationarity on the avalanche statistics of Barkhuasen noise signals. We perform experimental measurements on a Fe$_{85}$B$_{15}$ amorphous ribbon and compare the avalanche distributions measured around the coercive field, where the signal is stationary, with those sampled through the enti…

Wurtzite Effects on Spin Splitting of GaN/AlN Quantum Wells

Ikai Lo、W. T. Wang、M. H. Gau 等 5 位作者2005-10-31arXiv

A new mechanism (DeltaC1-DeltaC3 coupling) is accounted for the spin splitting of wurtzite GaN, which is originated from the intrinsic wurtzite effects (band folding and structure inversion asymmetry). The band-folding effect generates two conduction bands (DeltaC1 and DeltaC3), in which p-wave probability has tremend…

Electrical activation and electron spin coherence of ultra low dose antimony implants in silicon

T. Schenkel、A. M. Tyryshkin、R. de Sousa 等 10 位作者2005-10-31arXiv

We implanted ultra low doses (2x10^11 cm-2) of 121Sb ions into isotopically enriched 28Si and find high degrees of electrical activation and low levels of dopant diffusion after rapid thermal annealing. Pulsed Electron Spin Resonance shows that spin echo decay is sensitive to the dopant depths, and the interface quali…

Controlled Hydrothermal Synthesis and Structural Characterization of a Nickel Selenide Series

Zhongbin Zhuang、Qing Peng、Jing Zhuang 等 5 位作者2005-10-31Chemistry - A European Journal

A series of nickel selenides (NiSe2 microcrystals, Ni(1-x)Se and Ni3Se2 microspheres) has been successfully synthesized through a convenient, low-temperature hydrothermal method. A good nucleation and growth environment has been created by forming a uniform and transparent solution reaction system. The compositions (i…

Half-metallic properties of atomic chains of carbon–transition-metal compounds

S. Dağ、Sefaattin Tongay、Taner Yildirim 等 7 位作者2005-10-31Physical Review B

We found that magnetic ground state of one-dimensional atomic chains of carbon--transition-metal compounds exhibit half-metallic properties. They are semiconductors for one spin direction, but show metallic properties for the opposite direction. The spins are fully polarized at the Fermi level and net magnetic moment…

Enhanced Hole Mobility in Regioregular Polythiophene Infiltrated in Straight Nanopores

Kevin M. Coakley、Balasubrahmanyan Srinivasan、Jonathan M. Ziebarth 等 6 位作者2005-10-31Advanced Functional Materials

Abstract We demonstrate that the hole mobility in regioregular poly(3‐hexylthiophene) can be enhanced by a factor of 20 by infiltrating it into straight nanopores of anodic alumina. Optical characterization shows that the polymer chains are partially aligned in the charge‐transport direction.

Confined polar optical phonons in semiconductor double heterostructures: an improved continuum approach

F. Comas、I. Camps、N. Studart 等 4 位作者2005-10-31arXiv

Confined polar optical phonons are studied in a semiconductor double heterostructure (SDH) by means of a generalization of a theory developed some years ago and based on a continuous medium model. The treatment considers the coupling of electro-mechanical oscillations and involves dispersive phonons. This approach has…

Quantized conductance observed in reversible atomic contacts fabricated by template electroplating using an on-membrane anode

Zuxin Ye、Wenhao WU2005-10-31arXiv

We report a new template electroplating method for fabricating reversible atomic contacts between a single nanowire and a macroscopic contact pad. In comparison to typical template methods using a standing-alone anode, we directly evaporate the anode on one of the porous membrane surfaces. Single nanowires, upon emerg…

Axel Hagen、M. Steiner、Markus B. Raschke 等 8 位作者2005-10-31Physical Review Letters

The dynamics of excitons in individual semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes was studied using time-resolved photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. The PL decay from tubes of the same (n,m) type was found to be monoexponential, however, with lifetimes varying between less than 20 and 200 ps from tube to tube. Co…

We observe ultrafast 1P-to-1S intraband relaxation in PbSe and CdSe nanocrystals (NCs) that have distinct energy spectra. While ultrafast dynamics in CdSe NCs has typically been interpreted in terms of electron-hole energy transfer, this mechanism is not active in PbSe NCs because of sparse densities of states in the…
