We report the synthesis, structure and magnetic properties of the first 4d-4f single-molecule magnet. The complex [Ru(III)2Dy(III)2(OMe)2(O2CPh)4(mdea)2(NO3)2] displays a butterfly type core, with an anisotropy barrier of 10.7 cm(-1). Ab initio and DFT calculations provide insight into the observed magnetic behaviour.

Far- and near-field properties of gold nanoshells studied by photoacoustic and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopies

V. Weber、Alessandro Feis、Cristina Gellini 等 6 位作者2014-12-19Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics

Gold nanoshells, with a silica core and different core and shell dimensions, have been extensively investigated. Optical far-field properties, namely extinction and absorption, have been separately determined by means of spectrophotometry and photoacoustic spectroscopy, respectively, in the 440-900 nm range. The enhan…

Excellent catalytic effects of multi-walled carbon nanotube supported titania on hydrogen storage of a Mg–Ni alloy

Yajun Tan、Yunfeng Zhu、Liquan Li2014-12-19Chemical Communications

Superior catalytic effects of multi-walled carbon nanotube supported titania synthesized by the sol-gel method on hydrogen storage of a Mg-Ni alloy were investigated. The excellent hydrogen storage properties were obtained: absorbed 5.60 wt% H2 within 60 s at 373 K and released 6.08 wt% H2 within 600 s at 553 K.

Micromechanics Modeling of Bi-Axial Stretching Effects on the Electrical Conductivity of CNT-Polymer Composites

Chuang Feng、Liying Jiang2014-12-19International Journal of Applied Mechanics

In this paper, the bi-axial stretching effects on the electrical conductivity of carbon nanotube (CNT)-polymer composites are studied by a mixed micromechanics model with the consideration of the electrical conductive mechanisms. The bi-axial stretching effects are characterized by volume expansion of composite, re-or…

Preparation of high-surface-area Ni/α-Al 2 O 3 catalysts for improved CO methanation

Youjun Liu、Jiajian Gao、Qing Liu 等 9 位作者2014-12-19RSC Advances

High-surface-area Ni/α-Al 2 O 3 catalysts exhibit good activity, stability and coking-resistance because the high-surface-area support is favorable to the dispersion of Ni.

Bio-inspired polydopamine-coated clay and its thermo-oxidative stabilization mechanism for styrene butadiene rubber

Lu Wang、Linjia Hu、Shangbing Gao 等 6 位作者2014-12-19RSC Advances

In situ thermal-oxidative ageing tests by electron spin resonance (ESR) evidence that polydopamine (PDA) deposited onto clay can act as excellent radical-scavenger and thus significantly diminish the thermolysis of styrene butadiene rubber (SBR).

Precise Localization of Inorganic Nanoparticles in Block Copolymer Micellar Aggregates: From Center to Interface

Ruijing Liang、Jiangping Xu、Weikun Li 等 8 位作者2014-12-19Macromolecules

Localization of inorganic nanoparticles (NPs) into polymer matrix plays a crucial role in determining the performance of the hybrid materials. Herein, we employed a simple, yet versatile hydrogen bonding directed supramolecular assembly (HBSA) strategy to control the localization of Au NPs from the center to the inter…

Critical factors to be considered when testing nanomaterials for genotoxicity with the comet assay

Anna Huk、Andrew Collins、Naouale El Yamani 等 7 位作者2014-12-19Mutagenesis

The comet assay is widely used to test the genotoxicity of engineered nanomaterials (ENMs) but outcomes may vary when results from different laboratories, or even within one laboratory, are compared. We address some basic methodological considerations, such as the importance of carrying out physico-chemical characteri…
